I’ve done this before but due to getting covid and an injury, I’m having another go to get back into running. Just done my first run (I thought week 4 might be roughly the right place to start) and remembered why I both love and hate running!

Anyone else interested in some motivational chat? I’m guessing lots might start in Jan but I’m trying to get ahead of the game!

I’m new on this thread and so glad I found you! I’ve got week 5 run 3 today to do and am quite frankly, scared stiff. Am currently in Southern Hemisphere so hope won’t get too warm as I find running so much harder in heat. I’ve recently recovered from long-standing archilles tendonitits (from running too fast while middle-aged and unfit I might add) so doing C25k to hopefully avoid happening again.

WobblyLondoner · 12/03/2022 19:56

Evening all. Thanks for the well wishes @PurpleDaisies @januarysnowdrop - it's much better but still twinges particularly coming down stairs. I think I'll wait a little longer before I run again but I am quite worried it might be the end of my (short) running career! ☹️ I was just starting to notice the benefits too, in terms of increased stamina and not getting so out of breath.

Good luck everyone with your weekend runs.

PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2022 11:08

How’s everyone getting on this week? I’ve reached week 2 of the magic plan to 10K and I was really looking forward to todays run. It was only 3k so less than 20mins but I found it so difficult. It wasn’t even hilly-I’d planned a fast downhill run. Legs just felt like treacle the whole time. Still, I’ve ticked it off and am hoping for a better one on Thursday.

I managed a run! I've made excuses the last 10 days but so glad I got out today. W8R2 and managed to cover just over 3 miles.

januarysnowdrop · 15/03/2022 19:07

I finished this morning! Had a celebratory glass of water & a hot shower, but no banana: I don't like them. Thanks for all your encouragement, everyone: it's definitely helped to keep me going.

PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2022 21:35

Fantastic effort both of you. Super well done!

Still no runs for me ☹️ After dealing with my ill children, I’ve now got covid! Can’t catch a break at the moment it seems.

Well done on completing @januarysnowdrop

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2022 10:12

Oh that’s rubbish @WeAllLikeVindaloo. I’ve had it recently too and it’s really knocked my energy levels. Hoping it’s mild for you. Go slowly getting back into exercise. Flowers

@WeAllLikeVindaloo I hope you feel better soon. I've had setbacks and weeks off due to either me or one or other child having covid.

I've just finished W8R3 and remembered the last time I did it was November before I got covid. I'm determined to finish the course.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/03/2022 17:51

I've done W8R1 this afternoon and feeling pleased as I'd had just over a week off running. I did 2 more 25 min runs after W7R3 and my thighs continued to feel a bit sore which was annoying. After the last 25 min run I was due to go away for a few days on a holiday where I knew I'd be doing a lot of walking and thought it might not be sensible to try to also run while away, so took the opportunity to have a bit of time off to let my thighs stop being sore. The right thigh was a bit achey today, but I've had that happen during or after a few of the longer runs and it's never developed into anything like an injury so assume it's just my muscles getting used to the distance.

superoz · 19/03/2022 21:56

Well done @januarysnowdrop!
I’ve not had a run since last Sunday so aiming to try to get out tomorrow.

superoz · 23/03/2022 13:12

How’s everyone doing?

Currently just did w7 r2, the nice weather helps! Although there are times my speed really drops and is little more than a walking jog, I try to keep moving.

Hope you all enjoy your runs.

indiesearcher · 23/03/2022 13:41

Started again today... it's been a while but the sun helped!

heywhatswrongwitu · 27/03/2022 13:26

Hello! I'm still going, I did w7r3 this morning which was a slog compared to r1 and 2 but I did it! The end is in sight....

indiesearcher · 29/03/2022 09:06

W2R1 -done!

How's everyone getting on?

BrinksmansEntry · 03/04/2022 10:39

I'm on the last week! Really enjoyed running 30 minutes and also quite pleased with my ability to run for 30 minutes!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 03/04/2022 13:32

Well done to new starters and those close to finishing and all in between!

I did my 5th 28 minute run earlier (am repeating runs due to injuries earlier in the programme) and went too fast in the first half - got to 14 mins and felt really tired and was thinking there's no way I can run another 14 minutes. I slowed right down and kept going and after a few minutes felt better and managed to do the 28 mins. I ran just over 4k for the first time ever. Like a PP I am really pleased with my ability to run for this long. I also can't quite believe I can run for 28 mins non stop!

Will be moving on to week 9 one day this week.

PurpleDaisies · 07/04/2022 21:24

I hadn’t realised this thread was still going! Nice to see some great achievements, since finishing I’ve managed to keep running and I’ve somehow managed to hit 10K. The programme is excellent.

Good luck with your last week’s runs @BrinksmansEntry and @RichardMarxisinnocent. You must be getting seriously close now too @superoz and @heywhatswrongwitu. Good luck to the new starters too!

Hi @PurpleDaisies good on you for 10k!!
I'm still plodding on.. covid meant no runs for a couple of weeks but I did a 25 min this morning and think I'm ok to go on to week 8. I feel like I'm setting a record for the longest time taken to complete c25kbut I will do it!!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/04/2022 23:41

Well done on the 10k @PurpleDaisies!
I'm still going, did week 9 run 2 yesterday, and plan to do the final run this Tuesday or Wednesday. I am probably completing with you @heywhatswrongwitu for longest time ever to complete couch to 5k - I started almost a year ago!

I have bought myself a treat in anticipation of graduating - a garmin forerunner 45 watch. I was going to get it after the last run, but I can't actually see the screen of my fitbit charge outside in daylight (it's too dim) resulting in me accidentally stopping recording my last run after half a km while trying to get the screen to light up, so bought the garmin now as I want to be sure of recording the final run properly.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/04/2022 23:42

Hope week 8 goes ok @heywhatswrongwitu!

heywhatswrongwitu · 11/04/2022 10:51

That is impressive @RichardMarxisinnocent!
Nearly there though - good work. Thank you, onto week 8 tomorrow then maybe I'll finish in the next month...??

PurpleDaisies · 11/04/2022 13:30

Wow you’re both doing so well! I am very tempted by a garmin. I’ve had the same issue with not being able to read the screen of my Fitbit very well when it’s sunny. Fortunately (depending on how you look at it!) it hasn’t been very sunny yet. I’m looking at buying some shorts for running in in the nicer weather.
Keep at it-it’s lovely to read about everyone keeping going. Slow and steady and all that!

I wonder if you’re thinking of a different thread @Shopgirl1. This one started only started in late December with the “my New Years resolution is to learn to run” crew and I can’t see how any one of us would have got such fast times and so many long distances so quickly. Glad it’s worked well for you though! It’s quite hard not to read where you’re at and not feel disappointed if you actually did start in January like the rest of us.
