I’ve done this before but due to getting covid and an injury, I’m having another go to get back into running. Just done my first run (I thought week 4 might be roughly the right place to start) and remembered why I both love and hate running!

Anyone else interested in some motivational chat? I’m guessing lots might start in Jan but I’m trying to get ahead of the game!

If anyone was bothered by a repetitive high pitched squeaking noise this morning, it might have been my knees... Grin One down... a lot to go... now where's the WD40?

FreeFrenchHens · 31/12/2021 15:13

@Momniscient Grin but well done!!

Lostinafield · 02/01/2022 09:01

@Momniscient
I typed this yesterday but see it didn't post. Well done! How were your knees the following day?

Hereforthedramaz · 02/01/2022 09:07

Hi
I'm planning on starting today with w1r1.

I've done the program before years and years ago with someone else but trying it solo this time so a group would really help!

I did my first new year weigh in this morning and let's just say I'm motivated to make some changes!!

Hereforthedramaz · 02/01/2022 09:27

In fact off to do it right now so thank you for the inspiration! X

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2022 09:44

Good luck to anyone running today and well done to everyone who has been in the last few days!

I’m planning on W4R2. I went on a 10K walk yesterday so will have to see how my hips hold out.

Is there any way to do c25k and listen to a podcast at the same time? Like is there a listing of "walk 30 second, job 30" etc for each session

Yes! They’ve updated the app since I used it last.

You literally just play both at the same time and you can hear the c25k talking over the music.

I'm here to join in!

Back to C25K after a hit and miss 2021 - injury, recovery, got to wk7 then injury, did wk1-6 then got covid! I was worried I'd not be able to run again but I did W4R3 yesterday and whilst it was tough (let's blame the hangover), I did it.

I put weight on with covid and basically not being able to move a lot due to being so tired and out of breath and then just eating all the Christmas food I could lay my hands on. Being back on the C25K is a good motivator and the routine keeps me determined to keep going.

Hope you are all enjoying the running!

BriocheForBreakfast · 02/01/2022 10:08

I'd like to join in please! I started C25k this time last year with DH. He's more into cycling and has a recurring calf injury whenever he runs. We took it slowly and repeated a lot of the weeks but he gave up around week 6. I persevered and "graduated" around June and then started just running for half an hour three times a week. I lasted until end of August but I've been making excuses since then. Blush I think I could start again around week 4 but maybe even try a week 3 to see how it feels. I too have had a hamstring niggle so I need to be careful.

Who do you listen to?

Hereforthedramaz · 02/01/2022 10:11

Whoo W1R1 completed.

Previously I listen to Sarah millican but this time I went with Yasmin Evans and I like her

BriocheForBreakfast · 02/01/2022 12:53

I listened to Sarah Millican all the way through last year (still feels weird to call it last year now)

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2022 14:18

I did my run in the rain! Felt like a hero. It was definitely better than the first one in that my hips didn’t hurt this time but it was still a workout. I was pleased to see I’d gone a fair bit faster than last time even though that wasn’t the aim (currently on “survive to the end of the time”!).

Welcome new people and a big wave to everyone else!

Forgot, I’m listening to Denise Lewis and liking her. I chose her because she always looks poised when she’s on tv and I can pretend I look as poised as her when I’m out running. Im not sure that’s actually true!

Anyone out there today? I’m having a gentle swim on a rest day.

OP posts:
Hereforthedramaz · 03/01/2022 10:04

Morning
I've just finished W1R2 and feeling really good. Just the early fresh air I think is improving my mood etc!

Although I think I wasn't actually supposed to do two runs on consecutive days?

A gentle morning swim sounds like a lovely way to start the day!

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2022 17:25

Well done! I think the rest days are to try to limit injury. Some people seem to run every day and are fine with it. I’m not built for that!

My relaxing swim wasn’t quite that in the end. Normally the medium lane is just right for me but today there a load of super fast people who were off for the back holiday. It was hard going but a good work out. I guess that’s good.

Tomorrow it’s week 4 run 3. I’m quite looking forward to it.

Well done PurpleDaisies and Hereforthedramas!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/01/2022 22:42

Well done to everyone who's already started back at C25K! I'm hoping to go tomorrow before I go back to work. Going to give Sanjeev a try as my coach this time!

FreeFrenchHens · 04/01/2022 10:03

well done!

I got out for my first run in a couple of months and I really enjoyed it. The first person I saw told me "Go girl, go!" with gusto, and I thanked a random home owner for their amazing outdoor Christmas decs. (They go to town on them every year and my kids have had a lot of joy from them over the years.)

I saw 2 or 3 people run/walking too - New Year resolutions perhaps.

FreeFrenchHens · 04/01/2022 12:42

Second run of the year done. My first run with sleet, but it was only a tiny bit.

PurpleDaisies · 04/01/2022 16:17

I’ve been again-week 4 run 3. It comes around quick. I have decided I am not built for hills and I like running when it’s freezing!
I’ll just point out the other thread also running…

Well done for running in sleet @FreeFrenchHens. Here it was just very cold but it was clear and bright which would have been lovely if I’d been able to breath comfortably enough to appreciate it!

Hereforthedramaz · 05/01/2022 18:17

I've just finished w1r3, it was really nice running in the dusk.

I'm enjoying the actual runs so much more than I remember the first time I did c25k although I'm likely to change my tune in a couple of weeks!

It was a little icy in patches but running in sleet is impressive dedication!
