If you regularly run ultra, are planning your first or are kinda secretly mulling over the idea of doing one Smile welcome to the party.

Thank you! It was great, so lucky with the weather which made all the difference Smile

Small problem of not being able to walk now…

RelentlessForwardProgress · 20/11/2021 20:30

Well done @FellRunner94 I'm so glad you had a good time.
Hope you are lying on a sofa eating yummy food and having a good rest

Well done! Hope you're feeling ok today

Not been on for ages, after my awful 30 miler I’ve been running a lot less.

Today I ran another marathon, yey! The Sikhs In The City event.

A slightly nuts one with a really short loop, 21 loops for a marathon.

Did an ultra there a few years ago, signed up for an ultra again but tbh was going to aim for a half and see how it went.

Went with a big crowd from local running club, great atmosphere and lots of lovely food!

Managed a marathon without too many ill effects. Have now got a new bruised toenail along with the bruised one from the 30 miler. Ouch.

Anyone else been doing much?

I’ve got a fun Christmas 5 miler next week and that’s it for a while.

RandomUsernameHere · 13/12/2021 19:39

Well done! That sounds like an interesting one!
I've not got any races planned for a while. Will try and do a couple of Parkruns in December, although not much of a 5k fanConfused
What's everyone got booked for next year race-wise? I've got Boston and London so far and might try and do an ultra in either May or August. Bit worried about actually getting to Boston at this rate, will have to see what happens with Omicron...

RelentlessForwardProgress · 18/12/2021 11:01

Hello!

@WithCatLikeTread that sounds like a really fun race, well done. I hope the toe nail situation improves.

@RandomUsernameHere I have booked Endure (leeds) and.. Centurion's Autumn 100 as my two 'big' races, this weekend I'll come up with my running plan for the year and then book a few shorter ones ....I haven't had broadband until today since the storm, so I can now look up interesting ones, plus waste huge amounts of time on mumsnet Smile

If anyone wants to recommend and interesting marathons or halves that would be great

How is everyone doing?

@RelentlessForwardProgress I have Lakeland 100 as my 'a' race this year so I have that in July to look forward to. Need to shift the lard a bit as I had Covid in December and been struggling a bit with my asthma.
I have places for a couple of shorter ultras as training races- Haworth Hobble in March and Pennine 39 in June/July and got a couple of Bob Graham leg recces planned too.

I'm doing a few road halves (Wilmslow/Wrexham/Chester) in the vague hopes of getting my half time down to sub 90 as well but I don't know if I can do that this year while also simultaneously training for a hilly 105 miler, so I am resigned to the two goals possibly being mutually exclusive.

I'm not doing a marathon in 2022, decided against it due to the LL00- I may try and get my marathon time down next year and concentrate on that and doing shorter faster stuff. I'd like to try and do a lot of the English champs races for the FRA.

RandomUsernameHere · 09/07/2022 20:02

I just remembered this thread, how is everyone getting on? Would love to hear about what races people have been doing Smile

FellRunner94 · 09/07/2022 21:34

@RandomUsernameHere Hi! It feels like ages since I last posted, been focusing on training for the Lakeland 50 which is in 3 weeks (eeeeek!). What about you?

@giraffeski Are you still doing the 100? 😁

IScreamAtMichaelangelos · 09/07/2022 21:38

Currently camping overnight at Race to the Stones! Day 1 done. God it was hot...

LivingInaBuildingSite · 09/07/2022 23:30

Have a local sprint triathlon tomorrow - doubt there’ll be any sprinting going in the run section as well be boiling by then!

looking forward to a better swim than in previous years as forecast is calm.

couple of friends doing race to the stones, would like to do those runs one day. Hope it’s fun and you enjoy it, despite the heat!

not got much else planned after tomorrow. Yet.

I <hope> I’m still doing the 100, I’m sufficiently trained, although a series of bizarre events last weekend have laid me up slightly and meant I haven’t been able to run or cross train for two weeks which is very worrying.
Our clumsy pony stamped on the big toe on one side, which normally would have only been a couple of days off as she is barefoot, but while I had a swollen toe with a big dressing on it, a massive gas bottle fell on the toes and foot on the other foot and broke the toe on the other side.
I now can’t put trainers on. I have been told if I can press on it with no pain I can run again
so Pennine 39 this weekend is probably out but if I can keep it rested (ha! three kids! Two ponies!) I should have a chance of running.
I don’t think I have a chance of the time goal I was looking at but I will now just be thankful to be on the starting line let alone the finish Shock

giraffeski · 10/07/2022 08:12

I’m so gutted, my running was going from strength to strength. The last run I did was a race where I came 4th lady and 1st LV40. Then literally nothing Confused

It looked brutal. More of the same today - hope it goes OK.

FrodisCapering · 10/07/2022 14:23

I am NOT an ultra runner, in fact I am struggling through couch to 5k. I just wanted to say mad respect to all of you. I think you're amazing!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 10/07/2022 15:41

@giraffeski - that sucks 😞 hope both feet recover as quick as possible. 🤞

the local triathlon went brilliantly, the swim for one finally worked out (have had two really rough years and one against the tide as they mucked up timings) and it was really enjoyable.
I think I add significant distance as I keep away from other people and go the long way round the buoys but I prefer it that way.
I really need to work on my cycling and possibly start looking for a new to me better bike.
the run went better than I’d hoped with the temperatures, I just kept pouring water on my head and down my neck to stay cool.

have to try and find my old times and compare as not sure what I did it in before.

I started with couch to 5K back in January 2017 I think it was, then went onto 5-10k then up to a half marathon.
then got a charity London place and joined a local running group that is free and friendly and welcomes everyone.
that was the beginning of the end lol, since then I’ve gone on to do ultras, loops, trails and triathlons.

allows me to keep my diet of snacks, cakes, chocolate and wine 😀

RandomUsernameHere · 10/07/2022 16:21

@FellRunner94 good luck in the Lakeland 50! It looks amazing.

@giraffeski oh no that's so rubbish that you're injured, hope you make a speedy recovery.

@LivingInaBuildingSite glad the tri went well. I may well venture into the world of triathlon next year as a one off, but will very much be a runner moonlighting!

@ReviewingTheSituation good luck for the rest of your race, let us know how it goes!

I've not got any ultras planned for this year but did Boston in April which was absolutely epic! Now in training for London. Got an international house move coming up so unfortunately no time for any other long races in between, but already planning for next year! The good thing is we are moving back to the UK so lots of exciting options. Enjoying reading this thread for some inspiration!

ReviewingTheSituation · 10/07/2022 16:47

I'm not running RTTS! Was wishing @IScreamAtMichaelangelos well for day 2!

Ultras are not for me - marathons are my limit!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 10/07/2022 16:52

Re Ultras - you just run slower and eat more snacks 😂

ReviewingTheSituation · 10/07/2022 17:08

I know... the problem is that I just can't run within an hour of eating. Anything. I've tried, lots of times- different foods (protein, starch, sweet, savoury, raw, cooked...), different times of day, different times of year. If I try and run soon after eating, my heart rate just goes sky high, and running (or walking) is a monumental effort.

Plus the training doesn't appeal. Having just started another marathon training cycle, the thought of training for anything more lacks any appeal!

RandomUsernameHere · 10/07/2022 17:37

Sorry @ReviewingTheSituation getting mixed up with so many new posts! Good luck to @IScreamAtMichaelangelos

I know what you mean about ultras, I have never trained properly for them as just accept I'm going to be slower anyway. Definitely a case of completing not competing for anything above marathon distance for me.

FellRunner94 · 10/07/2022 20:00

Sounds like everyone some amazing plans! Hope all of your training goes well.

@IScreamAtMichaelangelos Good luck! The weather is tough at the moment.

@LivingInaBuildingSite Glad the tri well! So true about Ultras being more about eating… definitely perfected that part.

@giraffeski Hopefully you get to the start line! Who knows we might even cross paths at some point without knowing 😁
