If you regularly run ultra, are planning your first or are kinda secretly mulling over the idea of doing one Smile welcome to the party.

That is brilliant advice Thankyou.

I’m just lying here with the fan on drifting in/out of a tramodol haze.

Got some pizza on the way too.

RandomUsernameHere · 09/11/2021 20:18

How are you feeling pinkwaterbottle?

Has anyone done the Boston Marathon? Registration opened yesterday, I'm so tempted!!! Someone talk me down Grin would need to apply by the 12th...

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 09/11/2021 21:56

Well I think I'm on the slow road to recovery. I have physio tomorrow.

I can weight bear. I'm benefiting from painkillers and RICE. Haven't called in sick so on balance I'll take it Smile

I am so adverse to road runs now - also mass starts and busy city marathons are it for me. also way too slow but I can see the appeal!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 10/11/2021 18:18

I'm so glad you are doing better @PinkWaterBottle2021
I hope the physio was good!

@RandomUsernameHere ...Boston! Wow....never done, would love to.

If you have any chance of getting in I would apply Smile

Do you have to be very fast?....I know Boston Qualifying or BQing in other us marathons is a thing where they have a bell at the end you can ring if you BQd it, but I'm not sure how fast that actually is.

There is a great documentary about it on Amazon Prime just called 'boston' (the one narrated by matt damon, not the flim with marky mark in, God knows what that's like)

Hope physio went well today @PinkWaterBottle2021 and things continue to get better!

@RelentlessForwardProgress just looked up that documentary, will definitely watch it soon! These are the qualifying times, but they only take the fastest from each age group. You probably need to be about 5 mins under I think, depending on how many apply vs places available. I'm really keen to do some of the majors, never done one before! My colleague has done them all apart from NY which he's doing next year, I'm very envious...

ouch! @RandomUsernameHere
i'm not going to make that cut off any time soon.
FX for you and let me know how you get on Smile

TheWholeWorld · 11/11/2021 10:16

Ooh @RandomUsernameHere I think if you've got the chance to apply I would! Sorry, no talking down here Grin

RandomUsernameHere · 11/11/2021 19:54

I applied! If it's a reduced field size like this year it's very unlikely I'll get it though.

Anyone got anything interesting planned for the weekend? I was supposed to be doing a half but DH is away and now not going to be back as planned, so will have to pull out. Can't really ask anyone to look after the DCs that early in the morning!

emummy · 11/11/2021 20:54

Good luck @RandomUsernameHere! Quite right to go for it, would be very exciting if you got in. Shame about your half.
I have my first ultra on Saturday, bright and early at 7am, heading up tomorrow to a hotel.

RandomUsernameHere · 11/11/2021 21:10

@emummy that's so exciting! Good luck! Although I'm sure you won't need it. Which one is it? (If you don't mind saying)

emummy · 12/11/2021 06:15

I may well need luck! It's the Dava Way 50k in Moray, from Grantown on Spey to Forres. It's a former railway line, so no complex navigation or technical skills needed thankfully!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 12/11/2021 11:02

@emummy Very best of luck for tomorrow!
I hope you have a wonderful day, the route looks absolutely beautiful.

How did it go?!

FellRunner94 · 13/11/2021 13:15

Hello! Do you mind if I join?

I’ve got my first ultra a week today and I’m excited but scared… ran two trails marathons this year, as well as some road/trail races too.

Good luck to everyone out this weekend!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 13/11/2021 13:59

Hello @FellRunner94, welcome

what sort of ultra is it you are doing next week? I was supposed to be doing sunset to sunrise next weekend but I hurt my back so I doubt i'm going to make it to the start line.

FellRunner94 · 13/11/2021 14:17

@RelentlessForwardProgress

I’m doing the Pen Lynn in Wales, 35.5(ish) miles

Oh no that’s such a shame, fingers crossed things improve and you can make it 🤞🏻

RelentlessForwardProgress · 13/11/2021 14:39

Oh that looks beautiful, @FellRunner94

I haven't heard of those races before, they look brilliant! Have you ever done the pilgrim's 60, i'm now tempted to enter that for 2022?

emummy · 13/11/2021 17:51

Finished. Just home. Problem with left leg slowed me down but I teamed up with someone else who was struggling and we got each other through. Great race, lovely marshals and some great scenery.

Wow. How beautiful!

Very well done @emummy. Hope your leg is ok. Hooray for teamwork getting you through

Looks beautiful! Well done for soldiering on to finish! Hope you recover quickly

FellRunner94 · 14/11/2021 09:55

That looks lovely emummy

@RelentlessForwardProgress It’s my first ultra, I’ve also got a place on the Lakeland 50 next July so if they go “well” I’ll have to check out the others!

emummy · 14/11/2021 11:09

Good luck @FellRunner94!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 14/11/2021 11:38

@FellRunner94 wow at Lakeland.... i'm too scared to sign up it. I fear my orienteering skills are lacking! The 100 is a qualifier for the Western States, so I look at it from time to time and wonder if I could do the 50 as a bridge to the 100 and then chicken out again!

OP posts:
RandomUsernameHere · 14/11/2021 19:45

Just looked up the Lakeland race looks amazing but insanely tough! Starting to feel like a bit of a fraud on this thread after seeing what others have got planned!!! Grin
