If you regularly run ultra, are planning your first or are kinda secretly mulling over the idea of doing one Smile welcome to the party.

May need to acquire a taste for whisky!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 16/10/2021 20:14

Oh well done @emummy I'm glad you had a good day. Excellent goodies indeed, it beats the usual slightly stale granola bar Grin

what is the weird stick on the ribbon?

Grin It's the medal - a piece of whisky barrel
RelentlessForwardProgress · 17/10/2021 10:15

I love it!
You'll never get another medal like it in any other race Grin

Fab medal and goody bag! Was it an expensive race to enter?

Having a lazy day here today, the last one for a while.

Pier marathon next week, stort 30 the next, then Elmstead trail marathon the week after.

All depending on how the pier goes though, I may drop out of the others if it’s terrible! Or my heel is too painful.

emummy · 17/10/2021 13:40

I think it was about £60, so yes quite expensive! Got very well looked after though, and can't imagine the logistics of getting people to the 4 different start lines.
Good luck with those races, I'm tired just reading that list!

TheWholeWorld · 18/10/2021 12:04

Oh well done everyone!

Endure24 is the only race I've entered next year so far. Sticking to shorter races over the winter, got a 7 miler and a HM planned in between XC races. Attempting to try and get some speed in my legs Confused

ultra88 · 18/10/2021 13:45

Not quite the race I had planned but we got through it. I really felt the lack of training and valuable lessons learnt ready for the next one 😀

emummy · 19/10/2021 11:05

Sorry it didn’t go as you would have liked @ultra88, well done for surviving.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 19/10/2021 17:59

Well done @ultra88, if you get all the way to the finish you are a winner in my book Smile

I was looking at the live results for the Centurion Running 'Autumn' race (i'm hoping to run it next year) and the number of DNF's is huge, particularly when you consider you must have had a good 50 miler under your belt to qualify for it, so getting over the finish line is the big thing for me, regardless of time!

Well I survived the fell relays!
Completely destroyed my quads by hammering it on the steep descent so as I was taking a flight the next day I walked around the airport like a stiff legged weirdo Grin

It was a brutal course. Basically straight up and down and through the peat bogs. Slid down one bit actually on my arse.
42 minutes for 3.5miles and 1200ft of ascent though which I was pleased with although it was nowhere near the fastest time for that leg- I overtook about 15 people and nobody overtook me so all I could have asked really!

Wow, brutal is the word! Well done! Hope your legs are recovering

RelentlessForwardProgress · 21/10/2021 21:23

Wowsers! Very well done @giraffeski that looks brutal and I am in awe.
How are your legs now? Hope you have managed to have a well earned rest

RelentlessForwardProgress · 21/10/2021 21:29

Speaking of brutal, did anyone see the results of the Backyard Ultra this week. The winner ran 354 miles in 3 days !!!! And he's not a young man either.

TheWholeWorld · 22/10/2021 05:48

Wow @giraffeski well done.

I thought XC season was going to be tough 🤣

giraffeski · 22/10/2021 12:38

My legs have only just recovered!
It was my first one, I was slightly on the back foot as I am very much a long distance animal normally! It was a great day out though.
Leg three was about twice the distance but four times the ascent so god only knows how they managed.

RandomUsernameHere · 22/10/2021 17:46

Wow! Well done @giraffeski !
Hope the recovery is continuing well

emummy · 22/10/2021 18:26

A team from my area won the mixed relay; one of the girls was first in our parkrun a few weeks back, they are all young and very fit! I think I remember those days…

WithCatLikeTread · 24/10/2021 19:48

Pier marathon went well, currently celebrating with prosecco and pizza.

The wind increased as the tide came in and was pretty brutal heading out. So walked a few lengths outward then ran back.

Despite lack of training and being out of action properly since May, I got my third fastest marathon time, yey!

DH did it too but struggled as he has a weird type of diabetes and his blood sugars were all over the place. Lots of learning for him still to do, not long been diagnosed.

Achy now, still debating the 30miler next week, will decide about withdrawing tomorrow.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 24/10/2021 19:56

Very well done @WithCatLikeTread
It sounds flipping hard with that wind, so to get a 3rd fastest time is awesome.

Well done @WithCatLikeTread !

emummy · 26/10/2021 17:47

Great running @WithCatLikeTread, sounds like a tough event! Good on your DH for taking it on, hope he’s fully recovered now

giraffeski · 27/10/2021 22:52

Well done @WithCatLikeTread !

WithCatLikeTread · 28/10/2021 13:02

Thanks all.

DH is fine, he ran 6 miles yesterday.

I did a social 3 this morning with friends and feel fine, so aiming for the 30miler on sunday. Lots of us doing it so will have support but not sure I’ll enjoy it all!

Who else has something this weekend?
