Epic 2 day 7 shoulders and triceps done.

Days exercised 89

Wineloffa · 05/05/2021 19:19

Hi folks! Yes @Queuing4Fergs I love wine but recently I’ve been over indulging and it’s been affecting my sleep and exacerbating my anxiety so need to reign it in. I’ll take a few weeks off as a circuit breaker which will hopefully reset things.

Still trucking on with Ri30 L1. I’m actually finding it quite easy! Although I know a couple of you have mentioned L3 being brutal so I shall just enjoy L1 before it ramps up! Starting L2 on Saturday.

@roonetta well done on the 5kg weights Star

Queuing4Fergs · 05/05/2021 19:27

It was shoulders and triceps for me today too, Roonetta. Now starting on my second week of the Weeks 3 and 4 workouts of BR. I actually really enjoy this workout. The only bits I hate are the plie hops, the cable pull where you put your foot in the loop of the cable, lunge through it and row (even the other participants hate this one) and the crescent pose where you have to lunge between your arms in plank. I just can't get my feet in place inside my arms in plank and have to lunge my foot forward on the outside of my arms. One day Jillian, one day [shakes fist].

I've developed a bit of a sore hip/side on my left. Not sure if it's the hip itself or my obliques. Weirdly it developed after yesterday's cardio day not a strength day so not sure why. Hopefully it will ease off. Doesn't stop me doing anything, just a niggly annoying pain

gratedbeetroot · 05/05/2021 19:54

I’m enjoying the workouts this week, too, Queuing, though I didn’t do the cardio today as I ran instead.

The moves so far are fine (I recognise most from previous DVDs), I just have to keep my fingers crossed that I don’t damage any joints as I do the moves at the same time as them but probably should take my time with some (like the arm lunges while in plank) to get better form.

I hope your side gets better with a bit of rest. I haven’t done cardio on this week yet but I wasn’t keen on things like the running man from last weeks as that didn’t feel great for my knees, despite being fine with actual running. I ended up with a tight feeling over one knee and have invested in a foam roller for extra stretching.

roonetta · 06/05/2021 13:39

Hope your hip is okay Queuing. I can't do the crescent pose either, I am just not flexible enough and can only get my foot to the outside of my arms (sometimes the leg even needs a helping hand Grin)

I also hated running man grated until it was in every warm-up of Body Shred. You kind of get used to it when you are doing it every day Grin. Would love to know how you get on with the foam roller. I have been thinking of getting one but not sure if I would use it.

Epic 2 day 8 lower body workout done

Queuing4Fergs · 06/05/2021 19:25

Don't get me started on the running man. Truly horrendous and for me the worst part of Cardio 1 in BR. In fact, I prefer the suicides to the running man. Grim.

Cardio-no day tomorrow and I've decided to do BFBM instead of Cardio 1. Just need to mix it up a bit. The saving grace of BFBM is that it has no running man! 《Deliberately avoids thinking of all the hideous moves it does have》

gratedbeetroot · 06/05/2021 23:57

I think I’ll avoid BS then, roonetta! Grin

I’ve only had a very quick go with the foam roller - I need to watch instructional videos at some point - but it seems good so far. Tightness over the knee can apparently be caused by a muscle band down the side of the leg, so I’ve rolled the side of my legs which hurts a lot but it seems to have helped. Strangely, rolling the front and back of my legs doesn’t hurt all all. I just got a cheap one with a fine texture I’ll update when I’ve used it a bit more.

Queuing, you must hate the Cardio to voluntarily do BFBM instead Grin I haven’t done that for ages so can’t remember exactly what’s in it but it’s one you don’t forget doing!

Queuing4Fergs · 07/05/2021 09:47

Beetroot I just did it - well got to the end of the second to last circuit and couldn't do any more. It was awful. I knew I feared it but I had forgotten why. I think it's the combo within particular circuits as all the exercises in themselves are fine. But having some hard and some easy circuits makes it much more difficult I think. I do cardio again on Tuesday so if I have the time I'll do it again as I really want to complete the whole thing.

I am reading your foam roller posts with interest - wonder if it would help my hip

Queuing4Fergs · 07/05/2021 09:50

Sorry I am a gibbering wreck and my post was unclear re BFBM. I meant if the really hard exercises were spread out amongst all the circuits instead of concentrated within 2, it would be much easier. But 6 minutes going at full throttle wipes me out for even the easy circuits.

gratedbeetroot · 07/05/2021 11:42

Well done giving it a go! It is a long workout if I recall correctly. I agree that the exercises themselves are ok (from memory!) so it must be the combinations.

Apparently foam rollers are good for hips. Though I have to say that on first try it felt like an extra workout rather than nice relaxing stretching so I’ll probably use it when I feel I need it rather than regularly. Must look up those videos though and give it a chance!

We have a new, very playful kitten who is making workouts (and foam rolling!) even more difficult! He likes chasing moving hands and feet! Grin

AlgonquinBay · 07/05/2021 21:13

Hi everyone. I'm going to be controversial here and admit that I actually quite like the running man, I think it's one of the easier cardio moves, whereas just the thought jumping lunges brings me out in a cold sweat BlushBlush

I have a foam roller too but confess I hardly ever get round to using it. I would definitely benefit from more stretching exercises....

Day 33 of Epic here. Had to have a few rest days this week after an unexpected 18-mile hike on bank holiday Monday.

Oh and new 7kg weights are fab! Surprised at how many of the exercises that I can use them for.

gratedbeetroot · 08/05/2021 11:38

It’s not difficult, but I don’t think it’s good for my knees! My joints are quite flexible so when I have my legs ‘straight’ they actually bowing backwards a little if that makes sense; I have to make an effort to keep them in a ‘normal’ position and it’s easier to forget with moves like that.

When I said previously that I felt like the foot on inner thigh move would cause a bruise: well, it actually has! Shock That’ll teach me not to press too hard. To be fair, I do bruise easily.

18 mile hike sounds awesome. My children are good walkers but still young so I doubt they’d stretch to that!

I’ve gone back to my lighter weights this week as my sleeves in some tops felt tight after using the heavier ones. In good news, the scales finally moved - was starting to suspect they were broken! And it did happen after a day out where I ate more!

roonetta · 08/05/2021 12:41

I think we need a photo of the new kitten Beetroot Grin. Well done on the scales finally moving. Sounds like Jillian has been beating you up a bit this week!

BFBM is one of her longer and more intense cardio workouts Queuing so Star for you for doing it. I haven’t done that one for a long time.

18 mile hike Algonquin! Wowzers that is awesome 👏👏👏👏. You’re getting really close to finishing Epic now.

Epic 2 day 9 back and biceps done.

Days exercised 91

Ooh yes I'd like to see the kitten photo too!!

Day 33 of Epic here - legs and abs dumbell workout and a 3 mile run.

Having an Indian takeaway tonight as my reward GrinGrin

gratedbeetroot · 08/05/2021 17:48

I was going to message the kitten photos as it could be outing but a) you can’t send photos and b) I’m really not that interesting Grin He’s very playful so it’s hard to get a decent picture - here’s what happens when I get the foam roller out (not to use, obviously!) Grin

Enjoy the takeaway!

Wineloffa · 09/05/2021 21:28

@gratedbeetroot your kitten is adorable!! Such a cute little face. I would love a cat but DH is allergic so we’ll just have to stick with a dog..

Exercising has gone well this weekend. Yesterday I did Ri30 L2 and Yoga Inferno L2 and today I did Ri30 L2 and Yoga Meltdown L1. Feeling a bit achy this afternoon and actually had a nap because I was feeling tired.

Finally persuaded my sister to start Jillian-ing. She did Shred L1 on Friday and she phoned me today to say that when she woke up yesterday morning she felt like she’d been in a car-crash. Oh oh! I told her to get used to it! Grin

gratedbeetroot · 09/05/2021 22:59

Thank you all! He is very cute —when he isn’t attacking us—

Wineloffa - ha, I once got my sister to have a go when she came to stay. She didn’t carry on with it Grin

gratedbeetroot · 09/05/2021 22:59

Strikethrough fail!

gratedbeetroot · 09/05/2021 23:01

I did cardio yesterday and had a rest day today so nothing to report on the workout front.

toddlermom · 09/05/2021 23:10

Hi there! Who is Jillian 2021? And where are the classes please? On YouTube? Thanks!!!

roonetta · 10/05/2021 11:13

Hi @toddlermom Smile. 'Jillian' is Jillian Michaels, an American fitness trainer. She is not on YouTube i'm afraid but you can get her DVD's relatively cheaply on Ebay or Amazon. She also has an App which you can sign up to for a 7 day free trial to see how you get on. She is tough, but you do get great results from any of her workouts. Hope this helps.

Haha yes, Wineloffa, that car crash feeling never really leaves you does it. I hope your sister sticks with it and loves Jillian as much as us Grin. Well done on your workouts this weekend. No wonder you needed a nap!

Rest day yesterday. Epic 2 day 10 full body today. Blimey that was one of her hardest full body workouts so far BlushBlushBlush. Fitbit tells me I burnt 500 calories and was in peak for 37 minutes of the hour. Really proud of myself for completing this one.

Days exercised 92

AlgonquinBay · 10/05/2021 17:37

Haha - yes I can relate to the car crash feeling!!

Day 35 of Epic for me today ✅

Roonetta those full body dumbbell workouts are challenging and after today I don't mind if I never do a single leg Bavarian lunge and press up again!!
