This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

Hi Daisy! I use Clif shot bloks, I take 1 every 15 minutes from 45 minutes on. I believe the thinking is that you should take something before you feel you need it; if you feel your energy dipping then you may not be able to fix it. However, everyone is different and it really comes downto how you have felt in training & what works for you. I know that for any run over 10 miles I need some extra energy. If you do try anything different, definitely practice it first as Paddington says. And good luck!

Thanks guys that is really appreciated. I have my last, full long run tomorrow so I'll try with starting the JBs at 45mins and then carry on, one every 15 mins. Thank you again Smile

Still can't shake this bloody cold. My throat isn't sore just my nose still stuffy and annoying tickly cough.

Did 5 miles Tuesday. Progressive run. Managed the last 2 at the pace I want to be at. Harder I run the more my nose seems to as well 😂

6.6 off road last night. Day off today and fingers crossed I can do some intervals tomorrow!

Busy at moment with start of term and DH having an op but managing to fit in regular short runs.

I feel well into my autumn running season!

I've done the first of my planned autumn Halfs (fifth of this year), time was not quite what I'd hoped for, but faster than I've done that course before and I was still in good nick at the end of it. Gentle recovery runs only in the days following (back to full-on next week)

I'm another user of the Clif blocks, starting at about 5 miles (earlier if it's feeling like hard work) and then every couple of miles, give it take. Sometimes alternated with mini Haribo, which are good for morale as they taste nicer!

Well done on your half AuntieStella.
Mixed pace run for me this morning, bit of a slog at the end. I think my head is getting in my way at the moment. Parkrun tomorrow should cheer me up!

Well done Auntiestella
Managed my longest run in ages. Did just over 10, it was lovely although rather warm, but at mile 9 I started to struggle. Feeling a bit more confident about my half in 3 weeks but not totally convinced.

@AuntieStella well done on the half.
@IRun4Me if you can run 10 you’ll be fine for a half.

Lovely run in the sun today.

Hilly run this morning. Lovely mild morning, out in the forest, no one else about, bliss!
IRun you can definitely do that half, good luck!

14 miles this morning. Back from holiday now so it felt nice and cool. I managed to arrive home just as the heavens opened so timed that well!

IRun you'll be fine for your half- it's just a parkrun once you get to mile 10.

Adding 3 from earlier this week.

Hills and sprint session in the rain tonight.

Temp run in the rain this morning; felt tough after 2 nights of rotten sleep. Last night was going fine until the dog had an accident all over the living room carpet at 5. Off to shampoo it now, joy!

Progressive intervals and managed to avoid the rain.

@emummy hopefully a better nights sleep tonight!

3 mile tempo run in pouring rain this evening. Not much fun!

I hope you get a good sleep tonight emummy without canine interruptions.

hi there
I hope it's okay to hop on here and ask the experts....what socks do you have for running?

I'm thinking sweat wicking socks. What I'm finding - even though I'm not new to this - regular trainer liners are starting to leave my toes a bit sore? It's not every day, perhaps it depends on weather?

anyway, I looked up sports socks and a lot of them seem to be padded, which I don't really get. I just wondered if there was a sock equivalent of a sweat wicking top?

thank you and sorry not to talk about running!

emummy · 25/09/2019 10:59

Hi Autumn! I wear Ronhill 'Hilly' socks. I tried twin skin ones but prefer the single socks.
Much better sleep last night, thank goodness, feel almost human today! No running today, bootcamp in the park in the pouring rain instead.

AutumnRose1 · 25/09/2019 12:03

thank you emummy

they look quite thick?

it's a bit confusing, I've never bought special socks before - but don't do more than 3 miles at the moment Blush

emummy · 25/09/2019 12:39

They're not thick unless you get the trail ones. I like them because the toe seam is underneath and doesn't rub. 1000 mile socks are ok too I think, and Feetures, although I have only used Hilly for the last few years now.

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 25/09/2019 12:52

Thank you, I'll look at those too.

IRun4Me · 25/09/2019 18:00

Thanks for the positive vibes everyone. I think I’m stressing because i feel I’m having to fit running in rather than doing because I enjoy it. And it’s hard to get the long runs in at the moment.
Hi Autumn I’m afraid I’m no help on the socks as the comfiest ones I have are cheap ones I’ve had ages.
Couple of 5ks to add - a very wet one this morning.

PaddingtonPaddington · 25/09/2019 21:25

I’ve got an assortment of running socks. My favourite ones are cheapish karrimor ones as they have extra padded bits on the outside of the toes.

Run to kill time tonight whilst waiting for DD.

Run with a friend last night who is recovering from injury so was a leisurely pace and lots of gossiping!
Lunchtime run today in the wind at a progress pace.

Final long run before next weekend's race. Felt ok. Think I have finally decided on clothing, with a choice of vest or t shirt depending on weather.

8 mile final long (ish) run before next week's marathon which was very pleasant as the rain stayed off. Just a few short runs next week before I head up to Inverness. I woke up this morning feeling quite excited and nervous about next week.

On the question of socks, I mostly use the Hilly twin skin socks for longer runs. I also have Pearl Izumi wool socks which are a bit thinner and very cosy in the winter.

Adding 6 miles from other runs this week:
