I'm only 5 foot 4 and short body so kids is fine for me, they're equivalent to 34 inch I think.

Nearly got to swim on TV this evening, Look North were filming at Hathersage outdoor pool regarding the petition to stay open. I ended up getting out just before they started though.

TheOrigRights · 04/11/2020 16:56

That would have been cool tizwoz. How has the petition gone?

Anyway, please don't throw me out but I cancelled my last swim in favour of going for a run because the weather was glorious and I needed to be out in it. And jolly good it was too.

TheOrigRights · 23/11/2020 13:04

[cautiously dusts off the goggles]
Looks like we might be back in the pool on the 3rd. Fingers crossed eh?

How have you all been managing, especially those for whom swimming is your main exercise/relax time?

TriSeaSwim99 · 23/11/2020 20:40

Ive got a pool swim booked on the Wednesday we unlock again, but I’ve racked up 11 seaswims in November which I’ve never done before, as never swam in UK in November before ever Grin hope to keep going through the winter.

tizwozliz · 23/11/2020 20:46

Looking forward to the pools opening again but haven't seen anything definitive yet.

Some of the pools were quite slow to open last time but hoping the advance notice might mean it's different this time.

lljkk · 27/11/2020 20:44

I managed to book Wednesday noon, EveryoneActive.
Lots of country walks in meantime, very pretty skies around here.

profpoopsnagle · 30/11/2020 19:13

I've booked for Thursday AND Friday! Can't wait, but I think I will need to take it easy again, even though it's only been 4 weeks this time.

tizwozliz · 30/11/2020 19:34

They've not even opened our booking system yet :-(

TheOrigRights · 02/12/2020 10:42

@tizwozliz

They've not even opened our booking system yet :-(
Is it open now?

How frustrating. I shaved my legs in anticipation of tomorrow's swim (like anyone notices!).

MinnieMountain · 02/12/2020 18:11

I’ve booked my swim for Friday :)

I got through it by doing a Pilates video and telling myself it’s only a month this time.

I’m hoping nobody notices legs @TheOrigRights. I rarely shave mine in the Winter.

tizwozliz · 02/12/2020 21:52

They opened it yesterday, so I've been swimming this evening. It was fully booked but I got in on the wait list this morning. Despite that only two people in my double lane. :-)

Club swimming is banned for over 18s though, so it's going to be public sessions only for now which is quite disappointing (and nonsensical but I don't expect anything else these days )

TheOrigRights · 03/12/2020 09:04

Our showers are open as well! Yay.

tizwozliz · 03/12/2020 12:07

Oh, I'd love showers

profpoopsnagle · 03/12/2020 20:54

I'd love showers too, getting dried, dressed, driving home and then undressed, wet, dried, dressed is a major faff. But of course, it's far to dangerous to splash water and soap around.

I managed 40 lengths, noticeably slower than a month ago but I did it.

TheOrigRights · 04/12/2020 11:05

When the showers were closed I tended not to bother showering at home. I would if I was actually seeing anyone, but since I sit in my garden office all day who cares!

I also did 40 lengths.

MinnieMountain · 08/12/2020 06:07

I’ve managed 2 swims now. My standard seems to be 37 minutes to do 60 lengths, which is not bad for breast stroke.

Is anyone planning any big swims next year?

tizwozliz · 08/12/2020 07:20

I've now done 7km post lockdown. It's very annoying that public swims are open but clubs not allowed to train.

TriSeaSwim99 · 11/12/2020 06:56

It’s crazy isn’t it tiz that under 18 can return to training with the same person standing at the end of the lane whose a senior club member can’t get in the pool after coaching the juniors and be coached. Yet they can go swim in a public lane session !

TheOrigRights · 11/12/2020 11:44

Bizarre.

If I was in charge it would be different.

I have only been once this week. The woman next to me was so elegant and fast. I was trying to copy her arm stroke. I failed and went back to flapping.

tizwozliz · 12/12/2020 09:43

The local pool has put on some fast swim sessions which are pretty good, aimed at faster/club swimmers. I might even attempt to do something like a proper training session next time with 100s off fixed times

lljkk · 13/12/2020 16:35

How is everyone?
Lots rain here & I have a knee problem so I've been swimming more.

Lifeguard jobsworth got on my nerves today.

The official rules at the 3 pools I've been to in 2020 said "no Overtaking" except at the ends. but no one enforced that -- until today. When you think about it, there's no rationale for this as covid control. Overtaking only when someone stops at the wall could easily involve more interactions, actually, then someone powering by in middle of the lane (and easily get 2-3m away). People can stop and chat at the ends or while getting dressed (nobody stops this chat), but not overtake in a 4m wide lane...really? Was 3 people in the 4m wide lane today. I was the one being overtaken. Grrrr.

I know, first world problem...

MinnieMountain · 13/12/2020 20:08

That sounds frustrating @lljkk. No logic there.

I got to 62 lengths today before I stopped because I was at risk of a groin strain. It’s annoying at I’ve had a cold and this was the first day in weeks I’d felt able to do 70 lengths.

There was a deluded person trying to do fast, take no prisoners lengths during the open swim today. Amazingly the lifeguard said nothing when he crashed into both DS and DH.

GnomeDePlume · 15/12/2020 06:20

Good morning.

I have just started swimming again after a something like 35 year layoff! It's lovely. I can exercise without feeling like a hot, sweaty lump.

TheOrigRights · 15/12/2020 08:51

Welcome Gnome

Tell us a bit about yourself.
What motivated you to get back to the pool after all this time?

We will be in tier3 as of tomorrow. The pool is over the border a couple of miles away in T2. I'm not sure if I can still go.

GnomeDePlume · 15/12/2020 13:16

Thank you TheOrigRights, that would be a real shame if you werent able to keep swimming.

I'm in my 50s and hugely overweight. The motivation to get swimming came because I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my cholesterol is very high. WFH means that I get almost no exercise (start early, finish late, seldom get out of my chair).

DH was pushing me (in a nice way) to start going to the gym again. He loves it but I hate the 'please let this torture be over' feeling. Swimming feels more free as my weight isnt an issue (possibly an advantage with the buoyancy). Swimming I try to squeeze an extra couple of lengths in before my time is up.

We are Tier 2. The pool feels well organised. You have to arrive 'pool ready'. Peel off outer layer and leave on a chair on the side of the pool then we can use the changing rooms on the way out.
