Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

mind's I'm doing the Glasgow.

Only managed 1.5 miles tonight as it was roasting! Meant to be cooler tomorrow.

shortaris1 · 18/07/2017 19:52

Sorry that should say mine's

mammymammyIRL · 18/07/2017 19:58

Youcantscare thanks it means a lot getting support here, will go a circular route in morning & do 5k. Think I need to switch my stats to miles to fit in with everyone else here. My pace was 13.40 min/mile this morning, I'm normally under 11 mins so hopefully achieve that tomo.

2 mile route is perfect for those days you want to run but haven't time/energy/inclination Grin

Short I missed my long run for same reason, no childcare too was issue didn't want to foist dc on Granny again Smile

Sirzy well done rest up now

revolution909 · 18/07/2017 20:33

I do it in metric!! %k and 10k are metric after all ;)

mammymammyIRL · 18/07/2017 21:27

I've always done metric for running 🏃 Smile

Sirzy · 18/07/2017 21:31

My watch measures in miles but gives me pace alerts every km!

I was going to change over to all miles when I started to move from 10k to half but it never happened!

mammymammyIRL · 18/07/2017 23:17

It's pouring rain here & there's thunder & lightning ⛈ will see how it is at 5.30am - I don't mind getting wet when I'm out running but I definitely won't go if it's raining when I get up Blush

minesapintofwine · 19/07/2017 07:27

Thunderstorms! We didn't have any Sad
I've been waiting and waiting for weeks (we'll have them during the school holidays I bet).

Did you make it out mammy? (BTW in rl I am Mammymammymammy)

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/07/2017 07:38

mines so am I! DS spent a week with us and his Irish gm in Ireland and now at 2 is the only one who calls me Mammy.

I ache. I really struggle first thing anyway with my back but even after a hot bath, glass of wine and leg run from DH bless him, I'm really sore..
I think I'm going to start yoga today, meant to do another 4.5 mile run accordi g to asics but that feels a bit of a jump from 3.5! according to another training plan i found i should do 2-3 miles and then another longer one on Sunday.
That's 4 runs this week, would be 12 miles in total. Running mostly, walking up two big bastard hills. (Live on the north downs. Regretting moving from the flatish town now!)
That sounds ok I Think? Will do yoga once/twice a week and 30 day shred once a week too.

shortaris1 · 19/07/2017 07:54

Mammy it was boiling! I don't blame you.

You can't Yoga or similar are fab for runners. I do body balance once a week and love it!

I have a timed 5k tonight with GreatRunLocal. Lovely crowd, even though I'm always last.

revolution909 · 19/07/2017 07:58

youcant that sounds like a great plan! I only started running my very steep hill after I ran my first official HM

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/07/2017 14:04

Yeah I'm crying up it at the moment and I swear there are snails passing me..I keep chanting my mantra...buttocks of steel, buttocks of steel...

mammymammyIRL · 19/07/2017 20:20

No mine I didn't it was still wicked this morning, will go in the morning, it's ok out now but I'm tired 😴

Here everyone's called mom except me Smile

Can't plans vary so much don't they?

Downloaded this audiobook & changing my music to this instead for next few runs Grin

Just done my longest run in a month. After every thing that's happened recently and a knee injury that stopped me running for about 12 days I really needed to get out!

It was hot and horrible and I struggled.

According to the asics training app I was meant to do 4.5 miles today but just didn't have it in me.

Tomorrow is meant to be a rest day for me, but I think I'm going to get out and try a couple of miles as I can't run on Friday because of the funeral, so I'll do that run on Saturday depending on everyone's emotions over the weekend.

Frustrating but hopefully will be back up to previous fitness levels soon.

mum I'm understand your frustration having been there many times myself. Onwards and upwards. You are back running and that's a start. It took me two weeks to get back into it after a month off.

Goodd luck.

revolution909 · 20/07/2017 07:18

mum yes it's horrible when we struggle. When I'm having a bad run, I just set myself a goal and reassess at that distance. Usually I feel better by then and keep going :)

RMC123 · 20/07/2017 07:22

Mum completely sympathise. I am in a real funk at the moment. Life is so busy and finding time to run is really impossible. I also have an unexpected and elderly visitor for a week next week. She can't be left alone and DH is away. Not sure how I am going to run. Add in the fact that I am properly struggling to run in the heat and we are away on holiday for two weeks in August I feel woefully unprepared and getting quite stressed about how I am going to change that.

mammymammyIRL · 20/07/2017 07:50

I got my running mojo back! It has taken me a full month to get back to my groove in running after my disappointed in my half marathon performance.
Instead of heading out saying I was doing such a route & going to cover x no of kms, I headed to beach & set an alarm for the time I needed to turn around & run back to car. I also changed my stats to miles instead of kms which meant I didn't adjust my pace too often as I didn't know 'how I was doing' I just listened to my body & pushed myself a bit. I didn't walk a step.

Thanks to a friend's sister who I 'met' on run mummy run Facebook page who asked about my local beach yesterday as this inspired my beach run.

Mumthatruns you have to work your running to suit you rather than what the app tells you, and you listened to your body yesterday & still got a good run done too

RMC123 have you any family around who could visit elderly relative for an hour while you get out for a run?

mumthatruns · 20/07/2017 07:55

Just listening to my body and easing back in. Trying to get a couple of gentle runs in on rest days, even if they're just a mile, to get myself moving.

Was thinking of doing some general exercises at home too. Bit tricky as the 2yr old tries to "help"! So fitting that around his ever decreasing nap I think is the plan!

mammymammyIRL · 20/07/2017 08:18

30 day shred are short workouts - my ds used to sit on me when I was doing sit-ups when he was that age!!

RMC123 · 20/07/2017 10:02

Mammy have been for a 6 mile run this morning ( although Strava didn't work grrr!) and it has actually calmed me down and made me clear my head. The relative sleeps quite late and I do have a couple of teenagers around so think I will have to pull in a couple or maybe three early morning runs. I have also got someone to come a sit with her so I can do a longer evening run with a friend next week. Aiming for a 9 miler next week. The heat is more of an issue really. It completely zaps me trying to run in the heat

mammymammyIRL · 20/07/2017 11:25

RMC sounds like you've got your strategy sorted so! Early morning isn't as hot either so it's a massive advantage.

minesapintofwine · 20/07/2017 11:52

Glad everyone is doing so well! I had a terrible run this am! Aimed for 8 miles ended up doing 6 with loads of walking after 2 miles Blush. My legs felt tiredo, my heart wasn't in it and I couldn't be bothered with pushing myself on the hills. Ah well that's over now. Hopefully it's just a bad day as I really do want to up my mileage now. Also my last run before dc off for summer so last leisurely day run as will have to cram them around the holidays now. Crap!

mammymammyIRL · 21/07/2017 05:46

mine sorry you'd a disappointing run Sad
Have to be at work earlier this morning & blowdry my hair before this so not going to run, doing a 5k obstacle race tomorrow.

randomsabreuse · 21/07/2017 08:35

After a decent 10k last night I tried a short run this morning. Bad idea. On a deadline so managed 2km at about 8 min/ km. Was an "optimistic" idea as tied up with pushchair refusing nearly 2yo all weekend. Worth a try though!
