Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

@Outinthegarden I'm also doing Bournemouth as it's my home town! The route is available on their website at the moment and it goes through a slightly different way to the Bournemouth Bay Run I believe so a more gradual route down to the beach.

My FIL passed away yesterday afternoon with my DH there. Happy he's no longer in pain, and although it was expected, we didn't think it would be this quick. He only had the diagnosis 3 weeks ago.

Trying to keep up with training when I can, but twisted my knee on Friday's run so am out of action for the moment!

minesapintofwine · 10/07/2017 10:48

mum I'm so sorry Flowers

RMC123 · 10/07/2017 11:03

Flowersmum
I have just returned from a 6 mile and I felt quite comfortable for the first time in ages. It's overcast and drizzling here today which really helped. I did a 3 mile run with a friend in the heat last week on a very hilly run. I ended up having to walk for short periods and was so demoralised. Longer run tomorrow I hope.

mumthatruns · 10/07/2017 11:59

thanks.

Like I say, expected, but still a bit of a shock. Just keeping busy today

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 10/07/2017 12:00

Hope you and your family are okay Mumthatruns.

I ended up doing just 16k last evening. I did shave one whole minute of my average pace - I think I should focus on that anyways!- have a week . of great runs!

minesapintofwine · 10/07/2017 16:01

revolution that sounds like a successful run to me!

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 10/07/2017 21:15

My knee is sore.
I ran 14k on Saturday.
No running on Sunday.
Bootcamp yesterday.
Should run today but my knee... hurts to press it, hurts going up and down stairs.

I've got my aqua running class later anyway. That's good. I think i might stick to fitness training this week, maybe one small run, then plan to run 16k at the weekend. That could be a strategy couldn't it? Fitness and strength during the weeks and gradually up the running distance at weekends?

I'm so fit in every other respect! could go for miles. It's just my bloody knee. So frustrating. The spirit is willing but the flesh is grumpy.

How many times a week do those training for HM run?

I currently go to a running group one day, run with a colleague one day, and do Parkrun one day. I love all of them so I'm reluctant to give one up, but they're all only 5km or thereabouts. So then doing a long run in addition to all of that is a lot to fit in...

revolution909 · 10/07/2017 23:41

Pikachu have you tried glucosamine? Also there's a jointcare ointment really good IMO. Don't know if this is the best advice, but also.apply voltaren on my knees before a long run.

Pudding I run 5/6 days a week with Saturday being my only true rest day. I try not to run on Mondays, but sometimes I'm naughty...

minesapintofwine · 11/07/2017 07:35

revolution interesting about the glucosamine. I've just started to take it myself for runners aches and pains so good to hear it recommended. I seem to have a lot of aches whilst hm training-is it the same for others on here?

pudding I run 3-4 times. One tempo run, one 6/7k at a moderate speed, one easy one long run, one interval or Hill reps.

randomsabreuse · 11/07/2017 08:07

I try to run at least 3 times, preferably 4. I do running club 5k, speedwork, another 5/10k either with club or alone, Parkrun and a long slow run. Long slow is usually Sunday or I might tack extra mileage onto a club run or Parkrun.

I haven't done Parkrun before another race that weekend yet due to lack of self discipline and going off too hard.

shortaris1 · 11/07/2017 20:14

Hi all, sorry for your loss Mum

I feel behind with my plan! I just need to get out and bloody run more. I felt like I was missing out on my social life the week before so I was out Thursday, Friday, Saturday last week and didn't get my long run in on Sunday as a result. I've got 12 weeks from Sunday I just need to stop being so chuffing lazy!

Tried to join an interval group but its been off for a few weeks so missed that and was on jury duty so shattered and missed last weeks 5k run too. Aaargghh!

Lelleybells · 11/07/2017 21:16

Ok so I managed a very hilly 8k last night and also 15 minutes of hill sprints. Tonight I've just finished a 30 minute weights session. Feeling pleased but know that I start off motivated but it normally falls apart by Thursday.

RMC123 · 11/07/2017 21:50

My running buddy and I ran a 6 mile route today. It was one that we used to do regularly last year but the middle three miles are pretty much all up hill with other hills sprinkled throughout. We have been avoiding it as we both felt so out of condition. Actually we surprised ourselves by doing it in the best time ever! So obviously we are doing better than we thought!

Lelleybells · 11/07/2017 22:22

Love it when that happens @RMC123 I felt awful last night and really sluggish but ran a good time. Well done you!

mammymammyIRL · 12/07/2017 07:51

Well done mammy lellie and RMC !

My hips and quads are aching terribly today. I suppose its doms. I have a rest day today and planning a 9k tomorrow so will make it a slow one if I'm still aching. Training not going massively well atm tbh. I'm getting out there but haven't had a good run in a while. Still, power on and its bound to get better ey?

revolution909 · 12/07/2017 10:49

I just did 10k but I have been bloated /constipated forma few days now and I had some cramping towards the end. Anybody else has suffered this?

christinarossetti · 12/07/2017 10:57

I've found my people. I'm signed up for the Ealing half in September - will be my fourth,

Re: cramping.... I've had this before my period. Also, if I've run too soon after eating. Running really seems to put strain on my digestive system.

Hope that you're feeling better soon.

revolution909 · 12/07/2017 11:53

Hi Christins nice to have a poet over here ;)

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 12/07/2017 12:00

I've got the kids home for 2 weeks. Can't run except for weekends :/

Pikachu can you take them with you? I often run with my DD to the shops, she's almost 7 though

minesapintofwine · 12/07/2017 14:23

revolution how far is that?

I have thought about running with the dc on their bikes, but I'm a massive solo runner. However if I'm ever stuck it could be an option? (Dc are aged 5)

revolution909 · 12/07/2017 14:30

The furthest we've ever run is 3k (and by running I mean a mix of sprinting and walking ) but that's better than nothing!
