Half Marathon thread

Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

@Thisgirlrides it's Run Mummy Run it's a facebook group for women in UK

mammymammyIRL · 15/09/2017 10:29

Thanks @rankellior

Rankellior · 15/09/2017 11:53

I just ran 10.56 miles. It was slow and I had to walk at stages but given my knee has been sore all week I can live with that. Slightly panicking that I have to do that twice more in training and then 2.5 miles longer than that on race day but you know what. I just ran 10.5 miles so I'll just focus on that today and hope I've not knackered my knee further!

christinarossetti · 15/09/2017 11:54

Is anyone else doing the Ealing half next weekend?

HRHPrincessMegan · 15/09/2017 11:56

What date is your HM Mammy? Is it this weekend?

I went for a deep tissue massage yesterday and feel much better for it. Everything is so much looser. I haven't been running today but think I'll do a park in tomorrow before Sunday's 12 miler. We'll see if the benefits are still felt after that.

mammymammyIRL · 15/09/2017 12:19

@rankellior that's fantastic well done. The extra 2.5 miles doesn't even matter once you get to 10 miles you're sorted I think.

Mine is this sunday @hrhprincessmegan HmmGrin

Interested to hear about massage helping you

Rankellior · 15/09/2017 13:27

I'm glad you've said that HRH as I have one booked for next week so fingers crossed it helps. Have been doing yoga and can't believe how tight my muscles are compared to a few months ago. Clearly need to update my yoga rather than reduce it

TriGirl007 · 15/09/2017 13:40

Highly recommend a good sports massage it's my treat to myself every month normally around PMT time and it really helps everything as something is always niggling!
thisgirl I'm doing my first ever Go-Tri this Sunday arrhhh feeling very nervous hardly been out cycling at all but my running fitness meant the cycle did feel easy last month when I did a half hr ride. It's the swim I'm most nervous about but that is pool based and hopefully only 10mins!

Well done Moggle!!!

Well done everyone still training like billy-o!!

I'm an eejit. I've just registered to do another half. Next month. My 9yo is doing the kids marathon too (his first) so we've just been out for a run together. So lovely running with my boy.

Soooo... I'm still here Grin

Kids marathon? How far is that? You're not an eejit- Im looking forward to the next half and not even done this one yet. Glad you are still here thoughSmile

mammy GOOD LUCK

Sirzy · 16/09/2017 09:11

I did a 5k race last night, tomorrow is my next half!

shortaris1 · 16/09/2017 09:26

So Sirzy and mammy racing tomorrow. Anybody else?

I've signed up for a half at the end of November. Foot feels fab so here's hoping. Started new plan this week and going to do a slow 5k tomorrow.

Abra1d · 16/09/2017 12:37

Good luck all racing today!

HRHPrincessMegan · 16/09/2017 14:40

Good luck mammy and Sirzy! Hope you both have a great run and I'm looking forward to hearing all the details.

Thursday's massage certainly didn't have a negative impact on me. I did my park run in 25.53, over a minute faster than last time and felt good enough to participate in a boot camp straight after. I still have no tightness in either my calves or thighs yet, although I suspect they will feel differently after tomorrow's long run. I'm now seriously considering another massage before the HM.

mogglemoo · 16/09/2017 17:27

mammy and sirzy

Hope you have a fabulous day tomorrow. You've trained, sweated and panicked; but this is your hour- the day when it all comes together...

Enjoy the attention, enjoy the atmosphere; you will both be fab.

🥇👍🏻🏃‍♀️

minesapintofwine · 16/09/2017 17:57

HRH that is very fast well done! I'm seriously thinking about booking one of these massages...

TriGirl007 · 16/09/2017 18:48

Have a look at the list of people on here www.theisrm.com/ they have trained to a high level for sports therapeutic massage. Hopefully you can find someone local.

Abra1d · 16/09/2017 20:55

Princess, you're on fire!

Abra1d · 16/09/2017 20:55

HRH that's great!

mammymammyIRL · 17/09/2017 06:07

Good luck @Sirzy & @TriGirl007 today

I was in my heels from 11.30 to 11.30 yesterday & my feet were on fire by time i got home. Soaked in footbath stuff & used foot refresher spray last night & amazingly feet are ok this morning, just getting up now

Well done on parkrun @HRHPrincessMegan

Stewart2017 · 17/09/2017 07:16

Great Scottish Run in Glasgow 1st October my first HM.

Anyone else bricking themselves with just 2 weeks to go!?

Blackandpurple · 17/09/2017 07:46

Good luck anyone racing today. Last long run this morning before Cardiff in 2 weeks. 12 flat miles here i come!

Hoolit · 17/09/2017 15:33

Hope today has gone well for mammy and sirzy

HRH that's a fantastic park run time I'm in awe!

It was my first proper run out today since my half last Sunday bearing in mind I did two miles earlier in the week and thought my lungs were going to burst it was surprisingly good but sticking to 7.5 miles ish for the time being and have entered a 10k to keep me going.

How's it gone today Purple, you sound sorted.

Sirzy · 17/09/2017 15:45

9 minutes off last weeks time. Still 3 mins off a PB but I am happy!

TriGirl007 · 17/09/2017 15:56

Survivedy first eve triathlon today Smile it was a Go-Tri and much to my surprise the run was the hardest bit and I ended up loving the cycle which I had been dreading beforehand! My fantastic DD did the TriStars in her first event to, was mega proud of her as she was utterly zonked by the end. Now to switch back to HM training, after I've consumed the large bar of fruit n nut my fab DH has bought me Grin
