Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

Fading & Hoolit

I'll see you on that start line in just over 4 weeks. My first half too!

I managed 16k on Sunday and felt great, but went out today and only ran 2k before quitting.

It just seems sooooo far.

Hoolit · 10/08/2017 22:52

Sorry to hear about your knee Pik hope it holds up.

That view is amazing mammy it's looking at views like that whilst running makes it all worthwhile, I love it!

I did just over 5 k last night included 5 hill runs and ran just at the edge of comfort hoping to improve my stamina.
Netball tonight and I was exhausted and ran fast the very short distance home less than a mile so have my fingers crossed I manage 9 mile on Sunday.

Sounds like you're on track moggle! We should have a MN 'we can do this!!!' En route to the start lol there's probably a few of us Grin it is a long way but you'll be fine the crowd will carry you.
I remember last year I'd just ran over the tyne bridge which is approx 2 miles from the start and a little voice shouts from the crowd, " keep going you're nearly there"!! Grin

Feel free to pm me if you want any info on the day/ event

minesapintofwine · 10/08/2017 23:50

pik I'm in London for a few days. Ds2 perked up so we went out. Bad idea! He was miserable and my shoe kept rubbing my cut foot despite the dressing. Unfortunately have another day of hobbling about tomorrow and then hoping to take it easy Sat to rest my weary, sore foot. If I wake up Sunday in immense pain I'm still bloody going out for a short run though!

wineusuallyhelps · 11/08/2017 08:38

Hope your foot gets better minesapintofwine

I'm not going to be able to run for 5/6 days as I was too busy yesterday, and now we're going away for a few days. Oh well! Guess I'm not going to smash any personal records in the HM! Will just have to be happy with getting round!

minesapintofwine · 11/08/2017 09:10

wine thank you!

I'm just looking to get round without stopping (will probably walk through the waters stations) I'll be happy with that Smile

Can I join in?! Feeling excited / anxious / scared that I have booked my first HM for the beginning of October. Has anyone done Oxford? My main worry is hills. And another thing I feel really worried about is getting injured in the run up, or getting a cold in the weeks beforehand. This will be my first HM and have only ever done one 5k event before. I CAN DO THIS Confused

mammymammyIRL · 11/08/2017 20:01

A cast iron pot jumped out of press & attacked my foot this morning - my thought process

is it broken?
will this affect my running

Podcast: Black Hands.

About a family murder, along the same lines as Serial.

RMC123 · 11/08/2017 20:59

Very quick update! Away on holiday but have actually managed a couple of 4 mile runs this week, hoping to get out and do one longer one tomorrow . Won't be mega long but was worried that it would be 2 weeks with no running at all so anything is a bonus as far as I am concerned.

HRHPrincessMegan · 11/08/2017 22:47

Welcome 2012. This will be my first HM too - mines the 1st October. Don't get to bogged down in the what ifs at the this stage, just get stuck into a training schedule and take it one run at a time. You definitely can do this!

HRHPrincessMegan · 11/08/2017 22:49

Your foot mammy! That looks very painful - have you iced it?

minesapintofwine · 12/08/2017 10:19

Oh mammy much sympathy. How is your foot now?

I STILL can't go running. I walked a lot the last few days (it was a crappy holiday everything went wrong and my dc were the most miserable moaning kids in Legoland.)
My foot got infected and could barely put it to the floor Confused

So. Im concentrating very hArd on getting it better but by the time I go back I estimate it will be over two weeks since my last run. Arrrggghhh.

OK. It will all be OK. ...

Rankellior · 12/08/2017 10:50

Oh dear, doesn't sound a good week for some of you. Hope those of you with injuries feel better soon. I did lots of stretching and foam rolling of my knees and legs and went out today and did 8.5 miles with no issues, I was so worried about not being able to do I I completely forgot my knees hurt. So distraction worked at least

If anyone wants a podcast rec, my dad wrote a porno is hilarious. I'm often trying to run and laugh at the same time.

mammymammyIRL · 12/08/2017 12:17

RMC that's fantastic

Hrh didn't ice it used ibuprofen & arnica when it happened & one more ibuprofen last night. Went to bootcamp this morning & all was good with it, only sore to touch now

Pint pity about your foot and the moany children it all comes together doesn't it?

Rankellior that's fantastic about your run

My half is tomo 6 weeks so once I add a mile a week to my long runs I'm ok for it I think.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 13/08/2017 08:45

Oh god - sore feet, no running, it's all falling apart!! Big support for everyone who's struggling. You are not alone, and all that hard work we have put in so far is not for naught. We are fit. We are strong. We are determined. We will do this.

I did a short n sweet 10k today. Only time I've managed to run this week. I also found some random ointment in the bathroom and put it on my knees and it really helped!! No idea what it is or where it came from.

I feel a bit like one of those runners who stumbles a few meters from the finish line and it's all I can do to keep momentum going as I flail towards the finish line, keeping from face-planting thanks only to luck and a following wind.

Sorry to hear your holiday didn't go to plan mines and that your foot continues to trouble you.

Well done on your runs rank & pik. You're holding the fort!

I covered 7 miles this morning - your description of 10km as "short & sweet", made me laugh pik, I aspire to feeling that way! It's a beautiful day where I am, very pleased I made it out before it heats up. I had a long trip home from my parents house yesterday with the DC so my enthusiasm before going out this morning was low but the actual run was good. My knees sound like pepper grinders?!?!? - not sure what that's about but I have been more disciplined about stretching and using the roller afterwards.

HRHPrincessMegan · 13/08/2017 10:36

mammy do you think your accident could be a fairy related incident? Did you perhaps agrieve one during a run or disturb a fort?

I think you should flag it to Danny Rae Healy. Grin

Hoolit · 13/08/2017 11:35

Sorry to all those suffering at the moment, I know your frustration I recently went weeks with one thing after another and you feel like you'll never get back but you can and you will!

Just don't forget to rest, it's so underrated.

It's beautiful here today so I tried running with sunglasses on (the race was in high temperature s last year and am expecting the same this year) and was massively surprised to have no issues with them and I used love hearts instead of jelly beans they took so much less effort to eat and had the added bonus of little love notes to keep me going Grin
Managed just over 9 miles and was very comfortable finally feel like I have cracked it, it's taken a long time and been soul destroying in places and I know I've still got the race but I have confidence in myself now which I did not have before.

So going to over indulge myself at lunch today.

mammymammyIRL · 13/08/2017 12:25

Hoolit that's absolutely fantastic Grin

Hrh it's possible although I've attended a fairy festival locally three years running so I think I afford them enough respect Grin I was in Healy Rae land last Monday actually Grin poor stacking in my press is the more likely cause Grin

shortaris1 · 13/08/2017 21:35

Ouch mammy Hope all the injuries improve. 8 miles today but got Tin Man legs now!

mammymammyIRL · 13/08/2017 23:45

Just purchased tailwind has anyone tried it? Great reviews on run mummy run

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 14/08/2017 03:18

What is it Mammy?

OP posts:
mammymammyIRL · 14/08/2017 09:16

It's an endurance fuel thing that you add to water but it's not sickly like the gels apparently.

36plusandtrying · 14/08/2017 22:32

Printed the Bupa training plan. On week 2, did a 7k Friday before work and it felt great and I was high as a kite for the rest of the day. I did boot camp yesterday with hill suicide sprints ! And I plan on doing another hill session today. Want to get the bad stuff out the way early in the week to keep me motivated (eat your greens approach) ! Need to replace my asics gel nibus- any advice ? And are 2xu compression tights worth the money ?! Good luck to all who have runs coming up !

wineusuallyhelps · 15/08/2017 09:39

Hi everyone,

Mammy never heard of tailwind, please report back.

36plus I'm using the BUPA plan too and did so last time. How long till your half? Mine is less than 5 weeks away!

Just did my first run in 6 days (I was away on holiday without DH so couldn't leave the kids). Thought it would be awful, but my pace was better than usual?! Did 4 miles. Will go again tomorrow.
