Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

Yesterday at the water station they had some refreshers which I found worked very well!

minesapintofwine · 07/08/2017 09:11

sirzy what race did you do yesterday?

So I was all up for a run this am but I don't think I'm going to go. My legs and foot are in poor physical condition after my walking injury lol.

Plan was 10k today and 16km tomorrow/wed.

New plan is NO running until Sunday (on hols this week too so..) .

Hopefully I'll have fresh legs and motivation then and get back on track with my consistant routine. With my half not until 1/10 and my furthest distance on this training plan so far being 9 miles I think that won't hurt my training much?

So that's me 😂
(Back on the diet today though)

Sirzy · 07/08/2017 09:13

It wasn't a race, a running club local to the half I am doing next month arranged a trial run of most of the course (10 miles - one chunk can't be done without closed roads safely) so about 150 people did it in groups based on pace. It was really good and nice to get to do a run that length as part of a group. Met a few people who will be running st my pace on the day too which is always nice!

minesapintofwine · 07/08/2017 09:25

sirzy that does sound really good and well organised.

Rankellior · 07/08/2017 11:33

I did a rubbish 3.5 miles Saturday where my knees were sore but not agony. Need to do 4.5 miles today (17.5 miles in total this week - argh) but I'm sleeping really badly and have no energy. Motivation is fading fast so think I just have to put my shoes on and get out later whether I want to or not. And then an early night!

Those of you who have run 10k races - I have my first in a few weeks - do you normally get water stations etc for that distance or should I take my own? I've now stopped taking a drink on anything less than 5 miles but I do need something for that distance. Thanks

Sirzy · 07/08/2017 11:34

Yes they normally have water stations. Most races have information on their website/race information about water stations and things

Rankellior · 07/08/2017 11:45

Thanks sirzy I managed to find a map and there is a water station so panic over.

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/08/2017 18:33

Ran 6.25 miles yesterday (the 0.25 being crucial...) which felt okay but boy am I stiff today. My knees going up stairs are pretty painful today although I did stretch a lot post run.

Did anyone else see the thread about accuracy or rather non-accuracy of Fitbits in measuring distances? I've been entirely reliant on mine to measure the distance of my runs. Anyone else have issues with this?

Rankellior · 07/08/2017 19:03

HRH what type of Fitbit do you have? I had a charge which didn't have inbuilt GPS so estimated my distance based on a pre-set stride length. For it to be accurate you need to work out that length and input it. I prefer using strava or map my run for distance although now have a running watch with it built in.

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/08/2017 20:20

It's a Charge 2. I've just checked and apparently it has built in GPS. I can drive one of the routes I've been doing tomorrow to verify the accuracy.

shortaris1 · 08/08/2017 06:56

Morning all. Did interval training last night. Horrible at the time but good for the heart. My mate and I ran together last week but her Strava showed a km more than mine at the end? Any ideas why this happens?

Hers was right based on previous runs but mine's fine on my weekly 5k.

minesapintofwine · 08/08/2017 10:49

Well done shortaris. I've no idea why apps do this it's got to be to do with GPS. I think as long as the timings etc seem right whilst running and not "GPS lost" "GPS found distance 753km, pace 1 second per km" then it's near enough!

It's weird but nice not running this week. Sort of like a mid training plan r and r. Hopefully it won't affect me too much when I go back on Sunday. Just hope my foot heals up it's slowly happening.

HRHPrincessMegan · 09/08/2017 13:38

Tried a fast 4 miles yesterday and it was horrible - in the end it was just above 9 min miles which is disappointing given the required effort! So today I did a slow 5 miles which seemed easy despite various, intermittent pains in my knees, ankles and hams! It was also at a pace of 9.40min miles. I hardly felt out of breath after unlike yesterday - then I was not only out of breath but close to purple!

My diet at the moment is delicious horrible - toasted croissant with lemon curd and a cafetière of coffee for breakfast, carbs for and and dinner. I hope once I'm back home I'll be able to turn this around!

How is everyone else getting on?

Tupperwarelid · 09/08/2017 16:46

Hi I'm in Spain this week but the hotel has a gym so I did half an hour of body balance (and discovered I have no balance!), then went on the treadmill for about 15 minutes. I'm working on the theory anything is better than nothing.

mammymammyIRL · 09/08/2017 18:12

Hrh is your aim for your half to complete or compete for a time?
Mine is to complete.

Not much running this week due to au pair being away, did a HIIT workout last night, only 20 mins long.
Dh has text to know if I'm running this evening though so I'm going to go. I've got it in my head to do 10K, it's a warm balmy kind of an evening here so absolutely perfect for it.

mammymammyIRL · 09/08/2017 20:29

So pleased with my run this evening - pace wasn't ideal but it was very warm & my calves were tight from HIIT last night Grin

Great run Mammy.

I definitely want to finish and ideally to run the entire way, that's my underlying goal. I have really poor lung capacity - possibly because I was an asthmatic kid and not very sporty as a consequence. I am hoping that by pushing myself on my shorter distance runs I'll be able to handle the greater distances at a more manageable pace.

Something is definitely better than nothing tupper

Rankellior · 09/08/2017 21:51

HRH that's a really good pace, 9m40 is my super fast 5k pace, no way could I do it for longer than that. I'm in awe of people who can sustain that kind of pace over a long distance. I've come back and I'm knackered now Grin

minesapintofwine · 09/08/2017 22:44

I'm with Rankellior that is an awesome pace hrh well done!!

What a lovely run you had mammy

My goal is also to complete.

wineusuallyhelps · 09/08/2017 22:44

Love reading this thread.

I can't go out without water!

My pace isn't as good on shorter runs as it was 2 years ago - I've been looking back through my Strava 😢. Feeling a bit sad about it, but there are good reasons why I'm not quite as fit/fast.

My HM pace is more or less the same though, so that's hopefully a good sign!

minesapintofwine · 09/08/2017 22:52

wine my pace has slowed too. Feel a bit Hmm about it but overall not bothered.

Do you think it's all the wine we drink 😉

wineusuallyhelps · 09/08/2017 23:09

Oh, definitely! Ha!

Certainly can't be to do with age Confused

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 10/08/2017 10:41

Hey guys.

My knee isn't very good.

Everything's gone a bit to shit since I got a job so I'm now barely training and just managing a long run at weekends.

I did my epic 22k last Saturday. Knee a bit sore afterwards but that's normal.
Rest day Sunday.
Zumba on Monday to try and loosen up a bit.
Aqua running Tuesday (zero impact, and usually really good for me)
Weds - no time for anything.
It's Thursday evening here now and I'm still sore going up and down stairs. Not good. Feels bruised.

My run is in 3 weeks, 3 days.

Won't have time to run tomorrow either. Will do a short one on Sat (10k max) and hope to try and squeeze something in next week.

I'm sorry to hear that pikachu but, actually, you've done all the hard work so if you concentrate on getting your knee better now you will just ace the race. Smile

How is the new job?

I'm currently holed in a hotel room with a sick dc. Does anyone ever feel like nothing ever goes right? Hmm

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 10/08/2017 11:21

Oh no minesapint. Are you on holiday?
