Happy New Year, everyone. If you've got a New Year resolution to do more exercise and think crazy Jillian may be the answer, come and sign in here for moral support, chat and a chance to moan.

Ripped in 30 L1 D2 done. Still hate cardio, but it felt like a good start to the year.

30DS L2D6 DONE as planned with surprisingly little loss of conditioning after a two week break.

Now I'm going to try and consolidate that with a brisk walk into town and back for DS2's second nap (my inner-Jillian says use the sling but it'll probably be in the pram...)

If I can coordinate a co-sleep for nap no. 3, I shall consider that a day well-spent! Grin

ShyGirlie · 05/01/2015 13:14

oh dear me, just did day 1 of level 1 30DS, feeling so depressed as i had to completely stop 3 times - felt so shaky and nauseous Sad didn't realise how unfit i am. advice please?!

thekitchenfairy · 05/01/2015 13:21

You lot with babes are making me wistful for days long past. Youngest DS is 9 this year

I did not manage a 5:40am shred as I chose a quiet coffee instead. We are all back to work-school today and it seemed like the right idea as have Pilates tonight -- so tomorrow I am with you Nightstars as I start 30DS then Grin

Thanks for the kale lemonade link I use lots of Jason vale recipes, all good but that one went down much better with DS1 than his kale concoctionWink

I love my juicer - but now I am nearly seduced by a nutribullet-- anyone use one of those? Grin

ShyGirlie · 05/01/2015 13:21

is there anyone else who can't (or wasn't able to at the start) manage it the whole way through? Feeling a bit demotivated for 2moro!

yadahyadah · 05/01/2015 13:26

Hi guys. I will be joining you as soon as my pesky period goes away. Fell off the bandwagon last month due to a family bereavement. All still very hard but am going to try and stick with the exercise with my Shred buds. Well done to you all for showing up already.

PrivateBenjamin · 05/01/2015 13:30

ShyGirlie the first time I did the shred I also had to stop it 3 times and have a lie down on the floor in the recovery position as the edges of my vision went black. Just stick with it and keep going to the end of the video, even if you're doing the minimum Anita style exercises. You will get so much fitter so fast. Honestly by day 9 you will be flying through the exercises (except maybe the push ups Wink ) Well done for starting! Good luck!

ShyGirlie · 05/01/2015 14:24

thanks benjamin! (can anyone teach me how to do the names in bold thing?!)

i was also lying on the floor - even made a dash to hang over the toilet as i was sure i was about to throw up Blush Blush

i can't manage any sort of a push up, have the weakest arms in the world! cardio also near killed me. abs not quite so bad.

i did however complete the whole thing (mostly down to the fact i was terrified of not doing the cool down incase i'm crippled 2moro!) Will continue with day 2 in the morning...

CointreauVersial · 05/01/2015 18:32

Yay! I did the first Shred session! (L1D1). I got up at 6.45 and found the video on YouTube, grabbed my cans (coconut milk, as it happens) and got stuck in.

Actually, it was fine, although I had to stop briefly to put on a sports bra (I was in my PJs and didn't know how much "jiggling" there would be) and I also had to fend off the DDs who came in mid-session and doubled up laughing at me. Hmm Actually, DD1 (13) has said she'll join me tomorrow morning, so we'll see.

I'm a little stiff in the shoulders, but that's all.

I will find some weights at the weekend because the cans are possibly a little light, but I'm not going to go mad.

Same again tomorrow and Wednesday, then on Thursday I'll do a run. That's the plan, anyway...

BalloonSlayer · 05/01/2015 19:19

Did L3D6 today!

Getting annoyed at all the same things as I always do . . .

"Gimme ten more, blah blah blah Gettysburg address, ten, nine, eight . . . " I've fucking done ten while you've been blathering on, this isn't fair!

"Opposite leg this time." These are jumping lunges where you land on alternate legs. Why the fuck does it matter what leg you start on? - you are exercising both equally.

"Couple more . . ." That was arsing sodding THREE not a couple. Do you think I can't count? DO YOU????.

Yeah, so enjoying it as much as ever. Grin

BalloonSlayer · 05/01/2015 19:21

Shygirlie I often can't manage it all. I just try my best.

emmief77 · 05/01/2015 20:06

Wow impressive Cointreau to get up at face Jillian Shock

Have to confess didn't do RI30 today, my DC did encourage me though Smile but i started a new job today and had a sleepless night worrying about it and came home with a blinding headache. Hopefully, I'll have a better night tonight and will get used to my new job and will up to it tomorrow ...

ElphabaTheGreen · 05/01/2015 20:31

ShyGirlie - you'll get more out of it if you pace yourself and downgrade some of the high-impact stuff. Yeah, yeah, 'I have four hundred pound people doing blah blah', but they're locked on a resort with cameras on them and it makes good TV. In getting as exhausted as you describe, you're risking getting injured. You'll also hate/dread it and be more likely to give up.

  • Do the jumping jacks as half jacks/low-impact jumping jacks.
  • Do the jump rope as marching on the spot
  • Do the butt kicks as leg/hamstring curls
  • Do the combination exercises (e.g. the lunges with bicep curls) without the weights, but still go through the motions IYSWIM.

You'll enjoy the workout a lot more that way (or at least enjoy the benefit more and not feel like you're dying and crap afterwards) and you'll still definitely be building your fitness, with the ultimate goal of doing them at full-tilt.

ElphabaTheGreen · 05/01/2015 20:33

Oh - names in bold: put an asterisk either side of whatever you want to bold like this but without the spaces I've included there.

JustOneMoreGin · 05/01/2015 20:38

Can I join you?

30 day shred, day one, level one done.
Over indulged at Christmas + baby weight that I have been ignoring for the past year means I'm a dress size bigger than normal.
must shred, must shred will be my new mantra Smile

thekitchenfairy · 05/01/2015 20:59

shygirlie I had a reasonable level of fitness when I did 30ds for the first time - well so I thought - in fact I stopped several times. But, as elephaba says step down and keep on keeping on and it does get easier all of a sudden.

Week one Monday Pilates down, very pleased to find I could side plank both sides without crumbling (which I did every session 12 months ago) so maybe a year of intermittent pain at the hands of jillian has done something for my core. Not that it is visible today however... Felt like a big fat blob in a new class of skinny Minnies so I am remembering that feeling tomorrow when it is a designated cake day at work and my willpower threatens to fail meBlush

Tomorrow I will shred and try the kale lemonade for breakfast ....

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2015 21:08

Hello all - blimey, it's only Jan 5th and there's already well over 100 posts. Lots of New Year's Resolutions! Grin Haven't had time to read the thread yet but will try to catch up.

So, I've been a serial shredder/ripper/other JM for about a year and a half now, just had two weeks off over xmas so decided to go back to good old shred - I'll probably do a week at each level. Got through the whole thing without stopping, still can't do full pressups so my NYR will have to be to try again to crack them.

For any of you starting who find it hard - it really does get easier especially after the first 3-4 days. If there's some things you really can't do (like me with press-ups) don't let that put you off, there will still be a lot you can do and get progressively better at. If you find it hard to get through the cardio - or some of the strength moves come to that - then don't forget that 'high intensity intervals' are the best thing for gaining fitness - 'high intensity' being whatever leaves you gasping after 20-30 secs. So just hit the pause button, recover and then do the next 30 secs. It may take a bit longer than the advertised time but it really will pay off.

ShyGirlie · 05/01/2015 21:20

elphaba kitchenfairy and errol thanks for the encouragement. Alarm set for round 2 in the morning!!

youbethemummylion · 05/01/2015 21:20

L1D5 of the shred and dare I say it it felt quite easy Smile yay me!

Well done everyone whose doing their best, it's all anyone can ask if you!

CheshirePanda · 05/01/2015 21:52

hello all
Can I join please?

Just done my second day of 30DS L1. Yesterday I was surprised how hard it was was but I am feeling quietly pleased that today was no worse. I thought it would be and I harboured secret 'sod it i wont bother ' thoughts as I put my 2 yr old to bed. but I did it :-)

as I've been a cheapskate and not got the DVD but just watched it on YouTube...can anyone tell me if you are supposed to do it 30 days continuously? I've seen schedules on the web that show this, but others have mentioned shred/shred/cardio/ shred/shred/cardio/rest. Thanks.

PrivateBenjamin · 05/01/2015 21:57

shygirlie (put * at the beginning and end of the word you want to bold Wink ) I don't want to upset you but every time I start the shred I end up walking like John Wayne for the first 2 days. Prepare to be yelping every time you're required to move from sitting to standing.

I had a rest day today but have set my alarm for tomorrow to get up at 5.50am and work out before work.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2015 22:13

Cheshire - you should have at least one rest day per week. I always do the weekdays and have the weekend off (though usually do something active one of the days but not 'exercise')

CointreauVersial · 05/01/2015 23:20

Cheshire - I think (and hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong) you are supposed to do 10 sessions of Level 1, then move onto Level 2 for another 10 sessions, then Level 3.

I am also using the YouTube video, as I can get it on my TV.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2015 23:31

yes, 10 days at each level is about right but there's no fixed rule - you can move on sooner if you want, or not if you don't. You certainly don't have to be doing everything 'natalie' stype before going onto the next level.

ImogenQuy · 06/01/2015 07:16

RI30 L1 D4 done (and I shifted to 3kg weights for the second strength circuit, so feel quietly pleased with that). emmie, congratulations on the new job, and hope you settle in quickly.

Welcome, everyone - it's great that the thread's so lively! Errol and yadah, glad you're back. Thanks to yadah for the family bereavement: I'm sorry to hear it. Hope you're all doing OK.

CheshirePanda, I tend to Jillian during the week (as part of the routine before I go to work) and then have weekends off.

I did a session of "banish fat and boost metabolism" on Sunday night, and am starting the kick boxing one tonight. I love the cardio - I started off on shred but it made me feel quite muscley!
