Garmin watch thingy for running

I may have posted about this before, ages ago, but does anyone have one of these for running? And if so would you recommend it? I have tried various apps but find them annoying and inaccurate. Also I think I'd find a watch easier to look at while running.

argh so annoying

I will try logging out and back in, garmin is a bit rubbish sometimes isn't it

am so sick of seeing my own house! I want to look at other people's maps!

mscnile · 06/01/2014 20:04

Anyone use strava run app? Does it do more or less the same thing (but free...?)

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 20:10

haven't used it but think have read it has some advantages over garmin connect

it is still just me, and the worst week or two of my running career so far (what with christmas, partying, virus etc)

annoying!

I have a Forerunner 210, can I join your group? How do I find it?

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 20:17

it's on the garmin connect thing and it's called Team MN Connection (how inspired) and there is a picture of a cougar in the snow - you should be able to just walk right in

I don't really 'get' these groups but I keep joining them anyway, there is a tiger one too but that's not a MN one just some randoms

EauRouge · 06/01/2014 20:19

I thought you were interested in my athletic prowess but you just want to have a nosey at my house, don't you? Grin

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 20:19

Found it and joined - can you see my runs?

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 20:19

I'm hoping to run 3 times a week to help with general weight loss and fitness, hopefully having this to spur me on will be great!

EauRouge · 06/01/2014 20:25

I can see someone else apart from Mitchy now.

msmoss · 06/01/2014 20:28

Hello can I join? really enjoy using my Garmin, don't know what the model is though I suspect it might be the 10 as the battery doesn't seem to last long.

How can you not look at it when you're running? Am I the only one totally obsessed with my pace? Blush

LizzieVereker · 06/01/2014 20:30

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new purple Garmin. May I join when it arrives?

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 20:39

yayyyy at LAST can see someone else - are you ab something?

yes I just want to see where other people live go running!

we could set group mileage targets and stuff, everyone pile in

but why can we see some people's stuff and not others?

EauRouge · 06/01/2014 20:45

I've definitely got my settings on 'connections and groups' so I don't know why my activities aren't coming up.

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 20:50

Yes, I'm abxxxx :-)

I can see one other person...

I've got a goal to run 40km in 30 days going, started yesterday. Going to up it each month I hit it...

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 20:51

I run with music as well, I tend to sing along with the music in my head, I tend to check my pace etc at the end of each track - then as I know the music well, I know how long until the next check.

I guess you can all work out where I work now!

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 20:54

I can see caz as well now?

dramaqueen · 06/01/2014 20:58

I've just joined - I can see a couple of others

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 21:00

oh yes it's working now

I transferred as a user on someone else's garmin using my actual name, because I had no idea it would ever be this public Blush it was just me sharing someone's gadget

it hasn't even got 2 of my pbs on it (yet)

EauRouge · 06/01/2014 21:06

I can see three people now. I changed my settings but I think that previous activities are still hidden. I'm going for a run tomorrow so I'll see what happens then.

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 21:13

this is great am stalking adding you all

it is a real incentive to get back to logging serious miles and maybe work on my pace, am always the slowest in a group

Mitchy1nge · 06/01/2014 21:23

oh it works now eau

finally!

Anjelika · 07/01/2014 15:55

I treated myself to the purple Garmin Forerunner 10 for Xmas. I got it on Amazon's Black Friday for £59.99 Grin . It is very simple to use but does anyone else find it takes a while to get their location at the start of a run? I have had to resort to using other running apps on my phone on a couple of occasions as the Garmin just hasn't got started up.

Noseynoonoo · 07/01/2014 16:29

I am waiting for my new Garmin Forerunner 220. I shall come and join Team MN Connection when I have info I need.

The DCRainmaker website is excellent for working out how these watches really work.

Lazysuzanne · 07/01/2014 19:10

yes my Garmin often takes a while to locate the satellite, my phone is much better in that respect

Mitchy1nge · 07/01/2014 21:22

my garmin annoys me to DEATH sometimes

it routinely stops altogether when I just want to pause it and it's not always worth resuming just for another half a mile or so, it can take about 87 years to get a signal unless it's plucked fresh from the charger and tonight for example it has logged the excitements of new running club fragments when it was supposed to pause and resume and so I just gave up even trying eventually

but I still love it, and I found a TEAM TIGER running club on garmin connect and joined it and now have a new well hot Italian runner to chat with on FB, meno male!
