Anyone else starting in the new year and want to join me on a thread?

(Unless there's a thread I've missed)

I did this last year and managed it in 18 weeks! Was sooooo chuffed and then stopped once I completed a half marathon in October. I do want to do it again, so would be nice to talk to others.

sweetassugarhardasnails · 29/12/2013 18:02

I'm planning to start couch to 10k wednesday

TheSkiingGardener · 29/12/2013 18:03

I'd love to but I'm chicken. Can I hang around and see if I get up the gumption?

RachaelAgnes · 29/12/2013 18:05

I plan to, but v nervous. Will be going out when it's dark at first Grin

MarianneEnjolras · 29/12/2013 18:07

I plan to. Got to the end of week 2 in October when I had to stop due to illness (it really doesn't take much to break my will to run unfortunately as I hate it).Now I just need to get rid of this stupid sore throat and cough before the 1st.

NigellaLawless · 29/12/2013 18:18

Me me me me Grin

Please can I join you. I have really struggled to get back into running since having DS. After attempting C25K this year whilst pushing DS in his buggy I knackered my wrists. but now I've changed my work pattern I should be able to fit in a run before collecting him from nursery.

I'm a bit quitter though, so hopefully you guys can keep me on track (bad pun unintended)

Wolfcub · 29/12/2013 18:28

I plan to. I am very unfit and rather overweight

Doodlekitty · 29/12/2013 18:33

Yes. But Im so very very unfit Im starting slow by introducing walks first. With a 1 year old I'm really unsure how I will find time for tge running but walking I can do with pushchair giving me a couple of weeks to work out the practicalities. I'm starting tomorrow after work

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 29/12/2013 19:24

I'm incredibly unfit too. I decided if I struggle that I'm going to repeat weeks rather than give up.
I have to wait until the children go back before I start which is probably better than trying to on New Year's Day.
Just trying to find some suitable gear now

I've started early, with my first run this morning. It went well and was buzzing for the rest of the morning. Now psyching myself up for setting my alarm a half hour early for tomorrow for a run before work.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 29/12/2013 20:01

I meant to ask. Which person are people following? I know they're similar but not sure which is the best site? Bupa, nhs etc

I did my first one yesterday, need to keep it up now! Was cold to start off but soon warmed up. Felt hard when I was out there but felt great after.

I'm a single mum so problem here is getting times when I'm motivated to tally up with when my family are able to watch DD.

Lets see if I can make the second run tomorrow!

Pantygirdl · 29/12/2013 20:05

I'm doing the nhs one. Hoping the music doesn't get too annoying

Wolfcub · 29/12/2013 20:08

I'm doing the run double one, it's easy to use your own music with

PrimalLass · 29/12/2013 20:38

I started on Friday. Will be doing W1D2 tomorrow Grin

PrimalLass · 29/12/2013 20:40

I am using my own music with the NHS one.

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2013 20:46

I did C25K last summer & graduated, but fell off the running wagon when I got a nasty chest infection, missed three weeks, and then got really busy at work so I haven't been running since September. I lost weight, toned up & felt great when I was running. So I'm planning to do it again & keep it up this time.

The NHS one is good, but the music is terrible. DH got me a Garmin running watch for Christmas to motivate me again. Let's hope it works.

WipsGlitter · 29/12/2013 20:47

I've done it before bit want to start again. I use the get running app and my own music.

workatemylife · 29/12/2013 21:37

Count me in! I did it last summer and got into the position where i could do 5k in 28.5 mins. Then work, ill health and weather got in the way.... But now i have new trainers and more time, so it seems a good time to start again. I did two miles today but could go no further so i have clearly lost some but not all fitness. Some companions on the re-start would help. Smile My target is parkrun in february.

Tricorne · 29/12/2013 23:33

Hi everyone.

I'm seriously considering doing this, but keep making excuses. I'm happy with my weight but my fitness levels are pretty poor and I'm pushing 40 so want to get into an exercise habit sooner rather than later.

Do the C25K rest days mean that you run on the same day each week? It looks like it would always be changing which makes planning a bit difficult (or I'm just being thick and/or designing obstacles to avoid starting!). My main problems are:

  • Hubs goes to work before 6am Mon-Fri after which I can't leave DS (20months) and I can't see myself getting up to do a run before DH leaves...
  • getting woken up by DS during the night and then DH's alarms in the morning means I'm tired. I don't know how to force myself past that feeling of 'ugh, too tired' even though I know once I start I'll have more energy.
  • I work three days a week (and am out the house around 7.30) and often don't get home until 7pm, at which point I want to spend the last bit of my son's waking hours doing bath and bedtime. If I managed to force myself out the door after that (so around 8pm maybe?) I'm not sure when I would eat and see my DH (I'm sure he'd survive but, ya know, I kind of like spending time with him!)

See what I mean? These aren't in insurmountable problems but I just can't get past them. Gah?! Anyone got any tips on motivation and time management they can send my way?!

Ps. I also have big bewbs and am anxious about getting a bra that will save me from giving myself black eyes... Any recommendations would be great.

Sorry that turned a bit whiny and epic!

PrimalLass · 29/12/2013 23:43

I'm not understanding the problem with the NHS app and the music - it has none and I play my own. Is that new?

redhatnoknickers · 29/12/2013 23:55

I started today, with help from my superfit oldest ds. I can't believe how massively unfit I am :-( what a wake up call. The fact that it was so hard makes me want to get out there and have another go though - I don't think I can bear to be such a flabby gasping mess longterm!

holycowwhatnow · 30/12/2013 00:03

I'm planning to start again on Mon Jan 6th. I got to W4D3 last sept and then hurt my knee. Have been to knee Dr, had an injection in my knee so I'm good to go again. Felt brilliant last time but did it with a friend who is not doing it again so hope the motivation stays strong. What app are people using? My friend did all thetechnical stuff last time.
