Anyone else starting in the new year and want to join me on a thread?

(Unless there's a thread I've missed)

Hopefully before 6:30 so i have an hour before I run. Well that's the plan.

Good Luck

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2013 15:29

Ah. I see. We don't usually eat until at least 6.45. Maybe I could arrange a slowcooker dinner on the evenings I want to run?

Just been by the way - managed 18 and a half minutes running time to about 7 minutes walking time! :)

yehudiwho · 31/12/2013 19:30

I'm in ....again, did this a year ago , got to 25 mins running but not quite 5kEnvy Envy then got bad knee and gave up. have done a bit here and there but determined to give it another go. did r1 w1 tonight and found it OK. the first time I remember being completely breathless at the end of the first minute!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2013 19:46

I'm tempted, have done it before, about 3 years ago, but then injuries (prolapses) stopped me. Had a repair op and have the all clear to run again provided I keep it fairly low impact (ie low stride, slow, run on grass etc). If anyone thinking of doing this has any problems with pelvic floor these are wise precautions, also do your PFEs.

I used NHS podcasts first time round, the music was dire. After I finished I started using an app called Runkeeper. I put my phone in an armband (cheap, from Amazon, Sports Direct etc).

BrieMonster · 01/01/2014 14:37

I started today! Squeezed my (still breast feeding) boobs into my old 38FF bright orange shock absorbing bra and went for it. Worked a treat, for those wanting bra recommendations.
Breathless as anything but felt good. I'm so conscious of my quitting tendencies though... Help me keep it up?! And that does give me free rein to eat two scones today doesn't it? Will make a slow road losing 30kg though!!

Mitzi50 · 01/01/2014 14:43

Started yesterday. I am overweight and massively unfit.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 01/01/2014 15:05

Well done all those who have started

Just been out and done my run, feeling rather pleased with myself Grin It was slow, it was not pretty, I really thought I might die but some how I managed to run for the whole minute each time.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2014 16:07

Well done!

I haven't got an i-pod or anything. Currently I can manage an average of three and a half minutes of running to 30 seconds to a minute of walking. I have to walk if there is a hill! Any tips for what I should try next/aim for?

sweetassugarhardasnails · 01/01/2014 16:28

I'm doing a combination of these. Have a look Remus, it might be able to show you what to aim for next.

Thank you. So I think I'm currently at around week 5 level on both. Will take that as a guide then, cheers. :)

YourHandInMyHand · 01/01/2014 17:14

I'm tentatively considering doing this but I'm scared as I'm unfit and overweight. Blush

Those who are new to running are you buying new shoes or are you just wearing regular trainers for now? Have a couple of sports bras but only suitable (?) shoes I have are a cheapy pair of trainers.

justonemorecake · 01/01/2014 22:52

I'm planning to start C25k this week. I have put on so much weight since I had my dd last November. I really need to lose weight and get fit.

I did start it in August and managed the first two weeks but then I returned to full time work after maternity leave and I just couldn't fit it in. I'm really going to try now that I've got back in to the swing of work.

I used the nhs podcasts last time and carried my phone in a running belt type thing. I need to get a better bra though so might look at the shock absorbers.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 01/01/2014 23:30

I started out when I did it 3 years ago with old trainers and within about 3 weeks my knee started playing up. I went to a proper running shop and had gait analysis and shoes fitted and never looked back, expensive but definitely worth it, so comfortable. Buying them yourself without gait analysis is a bit of a lottery as different shoes are designed for feet that roll in or out or neither as you run.

PhoebeMcPeePee · 01/01/2014 23:36

I started on Sunday & went out again yesterday (using 5k runner with my own music). Next run Saturday & so far I'm really enjoying it but do have previous form for enthusiastic start but zero staying power Smile. Also got 3 stone to lose but hoping countdown to my 40th keeps me going this time.

yehudiwho · 03/01/2014 19:28

r2 wk1 done and feeling good!

NigellaLawless · 04/01/2014 14:04

Well done all of us for getting going Grin

I treated myself to some new shoes and kit yesterday because all my old kit is to small now despite being size XL

I did my first run this morning, it was slightly harder than I hoped, but I'm feeling so much better for doing it. I always forget how much I enjoy running in the rain Confused

PhoebeMcPeePee · 04/01/2014 21:05

Well done guys - w1 r3 done today in pouring rain which I found surprisingly invigorating. It's also day 4 of quitting smoking so feeling doubly proud of my efforts Grin

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 04/01/2014 21:13

Would I be mad to take the dog with me?

BrieMonster · 05/01/2014 11:45

Definitely doubly proud of anyone quitting smoking/chocolate at the same time. Due to do week one's third run as soon as DP gets home. Must say I do enjoy the rest days!!

PhoebeMcPeePee · 07/01/2014 11:16

How are you all doing? Just done w2 r1 managed ok & lost 3 lbs since NYD Grin

dizzyday07 · 08/01/2014 02:09

I (stupidly) decided to start the C25k programme with my 9yr old DD.

How hard could it be to run for 1 minute walk for 1.5 minutes 8 times? Ruddy hard I say!! But I am having to cart about 2 average sized people so it serves me right I suppose!

DD was a superstar and I really couldn't have done it without her. I downloaded the podcast onto her ipod so she gave the running commentary of what we had to do accompanied with chants of "You can do it", "You are a Champion" etc.

I must admit bizarrely run 8 was easier than run 1 but I am as stiff as a board now. Heaven knows what I will be like in the morning!

hotdog74 · 08/01/2014 17:34

I did week one run 1 today - hoping to be able to run for 30 mins non stop by my 40th birthday in the middle of March - doable you think? Hope so!

I've never been able to run any distance in my life, but just feeling a bit unfit so thought I would give this a go after all the positive recommendations and running is the only thing that I could see me doing as it takes much less time than anything else.

My legs are hurting now though.............

MarianneEnjolras · 08/01/2014 21:33

I started on Monday. I'm using ZombiesRun! 5k training and I've just finished week 1 run 2. In the pouring rain, which aside from getting freezing cold water in my shoes, wasn't actually that bad. I may actually have preferred running in the rain, aside from the fear that I would slip and fall on my arse in front of a gang of teenagers or workmen.

hotdog74 · 10/01/2014 16:31

Week 1 run 2 completed. It was much harder than the first run - probably because my legs still ache from the first run so hoping that the 3rd run (on Monday) will be better and I can move on the week 2!

I'm aiming to do my first ever parkrun on March 15th - so that's the aim - I will do it :-)
