Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Our Parkrun is cancelled too. Sad I haven't been for a few weeks & was looking forward to it.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/02/2014 21:29

Bloody rain!!!

thefemaleJoshLyman · 07/02/2014 22:19

Pretty sure that mine is on, weather looks nice again.

pennygallops · 07/02/2014 23:18

Sorry to hear so many park runs are cancelled.

Your training sounds good blatherskite. I like a bit of interval training, although mine hasn't started to have any impact on my times… yet.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2014 08:38

Dry and brightish hereSmile

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2014 10:16

Beautiful morning for a parkrun :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2014 11:26

It was lovely here. No PB, but reasonably close. I'm quite pleased, because my knees and achilles were sore, and I had a late night last night.

pennygallops · 08/02/2014 12:08

It was dry, fresh morning for us, but with a bit of wind. I'm at the tailend of a cold came in around 30mins and DS was 27mins. I am struggling to get back to anywhere near my PB.

CoffeeBucks · 08/02/2014 12:18

Windy, rainy & muddy in Glasgow Victoria but there was still a good turnout. Similar pace to last week but I'm working towards a sub 30. Should be there in a few weeks hopefully. I haven't been able to run in the evenings as much as I would like due to work being busy, but that should calm down soon so I can run more often. Really hoping I can make it to 50 parkruns by next March/April, I am hooked already!

melliebobs · 08/02/2014 12:20

Wow that was a very windy and freezing cold parkru this morning. Hope everyone enjoyed their runs n got the times they wanted Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2014 14:33

It rained at 10.30 here really heavily! I missed my pb by 2 seconds gutted!!! 28 done for me :)

slalomsuki · 08/02/2014 14:48

Well done to you all today. I don't run but volunteer at one while my son runs, usually to hand out the tokens at the end but its the worst job as it has to be done gloveless..

Knackerelli you do happen to be in the midlands do you as the description of the 1st anniversary was similar to ours last week.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 08/02/2014 17:11

Did my run, over 1.45 slower than pb Sad . Had to stop to tie my shoelace and really struggled.

MelanieCheeks · 08/02/2014 17:32

Had a reasonable run this morning - there's always 4 factors for me:

  1. Weather conditions
  2. Dog with me
  3. Done enough training and strength work during the week
  4. Not drunk too much on Friday night.

1 wasnt brilliant this mornong, but I coudl tick all the others, and recorded a 27:50, only a minute off my PB, and a good 2 minutes better than last week (when I could tick none of my 4 boxes....)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2014 17:56

You'll feel better by next week penny

Well done Coffee

So close cinnamon!

Hope you have warmed up mellie

suki thank you for volunteering!

Josh there is always next week. I googled "sneaker ties" to look for some elastic jobbies with a fastener which aren't supposed to come undone (I bought some for DS2 in the US last year) and got distracted by this instead

Melanie same applies here, along with cumulative sleep over the course of the week.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2014 17:57

These Josh

melliebobs · 08/02/2014 19:39

Got my time and was 7 seconds off a PB. Not bad considering how bad that headwind was ! There were points is was running with my head to the right cos I just couldn't breath it was blowing so bad! Lol

thefemaleJoshLyman · 08/02/2014 22:53

Thanks OneTwo, they look good.

Well done on everyone's run!

Knackerelli · 08/02/2014 23:42

Hey slalomsuki, I am in the midlands! I run at the wolverhampton parkrun. Is that yours? Thanks for volunteering ( whichever parkrun it is! )

SaltySeaBird · 08/02/2014 23:49

Hello

Nice to find other ParkRunners.

Feeling a bit despondent today, did my 30th ParkRun and it's not getting any easier and I'm not getting any faster. I did C25K in the summer and have been going to ParkRun ever since but my time fluctuates between 33.30 and 37 minutes, today being a slow 36 minute run. I really hate it as I'm doing it too and feel like I'm struggling. I've tried doing a few short walking intervals but it doesn't make any difference so I do run the whole way, just slowly and miserably. I go every week. Why is it not getting any easier?

What mid week running do you recommend?

SaltySeaBird · 08/02/2014 23:51

It's 16 runs since my PB now Sad

thenightsky · 09/02/2014 00:03

salty have you looked at your breathing. When I run with my trainer he gets me to open my mouth and really breath deep and a lot quicker, to the depth of my lungs, and this makes me speed up without trying really.

MelanieCheeks · 09/02/2014 07:59

Salty is that the only running you do each week, or do you do some other training as well - hills, intervals, sprints, fartlek (snigger) etc?

karatekimmi · 09/02/2014 08:58

Salty Is it worth asking someone to pace your run with you? Ours do paced runs every couple of months or so, but on the facebook page people ask and offer to pace someone to get a target time. I find it hard to run at a pace which makes me uncomfortable, but this is what I need to do to get better.

EauRouge · 09/02/2014 09:16

The things that really affect my running are lack of sleep, dehydration and low iron levels. The week after my period I am always really shit unless I drink about a gallon of spatone. Have you noticed any pattern? Could you keep a diary so that you can figure out what's causing it?

My running got loads faster when I started strength training in between running days, especially when I concentrated on my core. What used to be my race pace is now my taking it easy pace.
