Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

It is past 1.30 and I am still awake and tipsy....does not bode well for tomorrow morning Grin

karatekimmi · 07/12/2013 05:45

I have volunteered for the night after my Christmas party on the 21st as I won't be having a lie in thanks to mini kimmi! I'm marshalling as I think I'll be able to cope with standing in high vis!!

I've been looking at other races and have found a 10k at the end of January that I might do! I know I can do the distance but it's whether I can do it justice! Although I would like to do a half marathon at some point with a vague plan of doing a marathon before I'm forty ( 6 years to go!!)

Has anyone else got running ambitions for next year? I'd like my 50 tshirt (only 46 to go!!)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/12/2013 10:59

I had a bad run today.

I woke with a headache, but some ibuprofen sorted that. Then half way around one of my double knotted shoelaces managed to come undone so I needed to retie that and not long after I got the worst stitch that I've ever felt - literally couldn't get a deep breath in so had to stop for that.

To top it all, my pelvic floor really struggled and lost its fight at times Blush. This has never happened when I'm running alone, it's only at Parkrun that it seems to be an issue.

I think I might have to ask santa for some of those weighted cones. This can't go on!

Hope you all did better.

Knackerelli · 07/12/2013 13:55

Had a bad run today timewise, knew it would be though as have done virtually no running in this month due to illness and work. Also not in a very good head space. Was nice just to be outside and went round chatting with a friend. My lace came undone too! Next week is fancy dress so hopefully my Santa hat will have go faster powers!!

thenightsky · 07/12/2013 14:26

WhoooHoooo.... PB for me again. Knocked 40 seconds off! I knew I was working harder than normal coz I did the whole second lap with a stitch.

karatekimmi · 07/12/2013 17:41

We'll done everyone for completing it!!

My pelvic floor isn't what it used to be, and I ALwAYS pop to the loo before the park run, after an incident!!

Ran with mini kimmi so no hope of a PB but have a new PR friend.

Still waiting for the results, but no complaints for a fab, free service.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/12/2013 18:01

Sorry for those with bad runs and well done thenightsky!

I volunteered today as it was my clubs timed 10k, I managed 54:46 which I wasn really chuffed with but does suggest my parkrun pb should be better than 26:33! Must try harder!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/12/2013 19:35

I'd been to the loo just before starting!

Blatherskite · 07/12/2013 20:20

No parkrun for me this morning. I got in from the running club night out at 4am so it was just not going to happen. Almost a pity as that running club is huge and so makes up a large proportion of the runners so there were only 280-odd runners rather than our usual 350-ish so it would have been nice and quiet. Good course PB potential for those not hung over.

My goals for this year were to get my 50 shirt - done, get a parkrun time of 25 minutes - done and run 10k in 55 minutes. I think the 10k is the only one that's going to beat me as I don't think my calf is going to be healed enough to push it that hard in time.

So I guess it goes back on next years list. I'd like to get a 25 minute finish at my home course too and complete at least 1 official half marathon. I'm already signed up for one so that should be easy. I definitely need more bling next year. I've entered next to nothing this year so I might try to add to my medal collection a bit.

MelanieCheeks · 08/12/2013 07:31

Our PR was doing a Santa Dash yesterday, so I wasnt expecting a PB. I did manage to run faster than last week, though, and record a result in the 27s, whcih I'm very happy with. My dog Mini posed with a set of antlers, the Mayor was there, we had coffe and shortbread afterwards, so it was a real feel good session.

2014 goals - get my 50 shirt (half way there!), and run a sub-60 10k (1:03 earlier this year)

MelanieCheeks · 08/12/2013 07:48

Photo on my home page - how do you attach them to a message?

Standingonlego · 08/12/2013 13:14

Hello everyone, catching up after being offline. Sounds like a mixed experience yesterday, and a long wait for times as well.

iwish I have the occassional challenge too, I have found that it is worst the week before my period Confused The big problem for me is not running but body attack at the gym....jumping jacks. I went for the simple insurance solution of Tena lights, just in case and means I do not worry which seems to help Blush. TMI, but honest me Grin

After the unpromising preperation of 3.5 hours sleep and a stonking hangover i managed a 27.41, 1 second faster than last week and now only 3 seconds away from my PB. Maybe the fartlek session on Monday DID help! Target for 2013 - get a new PB!!!!!

cinnamon great time, well done !

Targets for 2014, I think I am recycling blathers 2013 ones...50 T Shirt (now done 30), 25 something PB at home parkrun course and a good solid 10k.

Melaniecheeks if you are running 5k 27s then a sub 60m 10k should be easy :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/12/2013 13:43

Hellloooo runners!

I had a lovely time at Blickling Park yesterday - was pretty slow, as I didn't know the course (but could see there were a couple of hills) and it was gravelly trail rather than a hard path. I still managed to finish below 30.00 so that was good.

And I did the HM this morning in about 2:20. Happy with that, as it was very hilly and I was very tired after a stressful week and lots of driving over the last couple of days. My knees are healing up well, but the bruising is quite impressive now. My back is feeling better, although still stiff. And no word from the police so I'm resigned to not seeing any of my stuff again.

I too have pelvic floor problems - DS2 was over 10lbs so I blame him. Dark running clothes and a pad help. There was a woman about my age yesterday who was wearing light grey joggers which didn't provide much camouflage.

Goals for next year - 50 parkruns (have done 26), a sub-1 hour 10K (PB clue is in my nickname) and another couple of halves.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/12/2013 15:19

Oh and one more goal - a sprint triathlon Smile

Blatherskite · 08/12/2013 18:32

My 10k PB is 56:45 so I got close to my target but not quite there. Definitely need to work on my speed next year

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2013 21:59

That's a good time OhOneOhTwoOhThree considering your bruised knees and not doing much running since yor marathon! Sorry to hear you haven't heard anything about your stuff. I know what you mean about not going where you're going but it made me faster yesterday as I needed to keep someone in my sights! It's a 10k that my club run in may but I've never done it and it wasn't marked out at all. I got vague directions before starting :)

3 seconds off your pb with a hangover means next week is pb week standingonlego!

PepeLePew · 09/12/2013 22:40

I've volunteered for Saturday - am hoping they pick me! I love a high vis jacket!

I've picked up what I think is an ITB injury - am foam rolling like mad but it hurts! Really cross
as I did my first ever 10k yesterday in 59m and 58 seconds - it was such fun. I drove to the South Bank and ran along the Thames to London Bridge then looped back through the City. Felt so pleased and was going to do it again on Friday
but then mentioned my knee pain to my sister who is am
experienced runner and she told me to google
ITB. So no parkrunning on Saturday but fingers crossed I can volunteer instead.

Blatherskite · 11/12/2013 18:43

Finally going to do my 51st parkrun on Saturday! I did my 50th and have then either been injured or volunteering somewhere ever since. At least my nice, new. red shirt will finally get an outing.

I got to be a race director at a marathon today too! It was cold but very motivational. They were all amazing.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/12/2013 07:50

Wow Blatherskite, pressure!! Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm doing ok for volunteers at the moment, 4 and it's only Thursday :)

rosy71 · 12/12/2013 20:39

Another one with pelvic floor issues Blush I'm glad to read I'm not the only one! I'm a fan of black running clothes too.

My targets for 2014 are running a 5k in under 30 mins & finding a race to enter. I'm toying with the idea of trying a 10k too. I haven't actually run that far yet, so that might be one for 2015.

Blatherskite · 12/12/2013 21:35

It wasn't too bad cinnamon. I was technically the co-RD and the ED was there too so I wasn't on my own. I've done a couple now and am signed up to do another in the new year. It's small scale and really friendly so it's lots of fun to do. A single marathon is nothing to most of the guys who come as they're used to doing 2, 3, 4 even 10 in a row or even a couple in a day!! In fact, the last time I helped out, one guy was doing his 37th marathon in 37 days! They're all amazing. Makes me being worried about attempting a single marathon feel a bit silly.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/12/2013 21:58

I've done the NHS choices 5+ speed and stepping stone podcasts since Saturday with no pelvic floor problems.

Why is it only at Parkrun that I struggle?!

MelanieCheeks · 13/12/2013 10:40

A week in the life of a ParkRunner:

Sunday - take big dog out for a distance run
Monday - training session in the evening
Tuesday - make sure I do my supposed-to-be daily press-ups and squats for strength
Wednesday - training session
Thursday - start looking at the weather forecast for the weekend
Friday - make sure all chosen running gear is clean and ready to go. Try to psych self into aiming for a PB. Try to mderate alcohol intake to avoid hangovers.
Saturday - ParkRun!
Saturday afternoon - fret waiting for the results to come in, compare and contrast perfromance with previous weeks, post on Mumsnet and other forums......

Standingonlego · 13/12/2013 20:33

Melanie I did an extra task this week - bid for dodgy festive fancy dress outfit on ebay ready for next weeks Christmas run Xmas Blush. I have never needed fancy dress....now I have a Mrs Santa to add to my Halloween get up!

karatekimmi · 14/12/2013 06:21

Well it's looking dry here which is good! Just need to get my lazy bum off the sofa an get ready - despite mini kimmi bein up at 5 I clock we seem to be rushin to the start line far too often!! We try to get a bit of playtime at the park to wear out entertain LO and then he has the important job of waving at all the Marshall's!
