Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

MelanieCheeks · 16/08/2013 19:40

Oh hi mollycoddles! My home park run is Wallace park Lisburn, but I've done the house of sport one and the portrush on the beach one, which is Very pretty but a bitch to run on. Would love to try some other Belfast ones :-)

IsThatTrue · 16/08/2013 19:41

standing are you running in the morning?

molly I'm steadily getting faster as the weight comes off. I'm only 2 stone over being a healthy weight now Hmm but I'm now overweight rather than obese so it's gotta be good.

An I mad to run the mile and a half to the park run in the morning? It won't go fast but it means I can get up a bit later

OP posts:
mollycuddles · 16/08/2013 19:44

I generally do Belfast Victoria but my folks are moving to near Wallace so will do it at some point. Fancy Portrush as its different. I've done Craigavon which was lovely (not something said about Craigavon very often...)
Vic park is pretty flat

Is that true - during marathon training earlier this year I ran to parkrun a couple of times. 11 miles from here.
1.5 is nothing
(Yes I am mad)
I'm about 3 stone over my ideal and 2 over the maximum where I'm happy. Marathon training made me very hungry

MelanieCheeks · 16/08/2013 19:51

Oh I'd love to do Victoria some time, I lived in east Belfast for a loooong time, and have a real affection for that park next to the cranes and the airport. How many laps is it?

And yes wow to mo Farrah doing 5k in 13 minutes!!!!

IsThatTrue · 16/08/2013 19:55

molly you ran 11miles to parkrun? Jesus I feel like a wimp now!

And yay for MN parkrun meet ups :)

OP posts:
mollycuddles · 16/08/2013 22:11

It's 3 laps of vic park.
Due to various other commitments I won't be there until probably 14/9 now :(

mollycuddles · 16/08/2013 22:13

is that true

Yes I did it twice. Set off from home at 6am. Totally insane. Finished parkrun in about 37 as the last 3 miles of my 14 milers

MelanieCheeks · 16/08/2013 22:31

Ok Molly, I'll come and do vic park some time Late September, and you'll come to Wallace maybe in October?

mollycuddles · 16/08/2013 22:55

That's a deal - 19/10 for Wallace? 14 or 21 Sept for vic park. DH is developing a triathlon habit so I'm following him around other events the rest of the time. I'm never going to get my 50 at this rate
If you're doing color run we can meet at TQ
Pm me and I'll send you my mobile no

MelanieCheeks · 16/08/2013 23:19

Have to be 21 September but deffo up for that! Will pm

Standingonlego · 17/08/2013 00:28

mollycuddles respect for the marathon miles, and have fun with melaniecheeks :)

IsThatTrue yes, I am running in the morning!

Only 9 hours time we will all be zapping around our respective local runs. Good luck to all especially golden bakinginwoodword and others doing ParkRun for the first time. Hope you love it, and don't forget your barcode Grin

MyDaydream · 17/08/2013 07:00

Baking and BIWI, I did my first park run last week and came in the bottom 5 but I was so happy with that because I finished it, and that's just my starting point. I'm going to be sub 30, when the weight falls off and I get better at running, but for a 4 stone overweight woman who hasn't done any proper exercise for 3 years I'm doing okay. My goal today is still above 40minutes.

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 07:24

Good luck everyone :)

Great attitude mydaydream

Well I had an 8 week plan (after my running group) and I had 3 goals.

  1. Run 5k without stopping
  2. Run 3x a week all summer
  3. Lose 1 stone

I have 2 weeks left still but I have checked off number 1 (and can run 10k without stopping) I have managed 2 so far even with childcare problems and hot weather. And as of today I have lost 1 stone 1lb :)

I'm very very happy this morning. Now to conquer that parkrun!

Standingonlego · 17/08/2013 10:20

Hope everyone had a lovely run, waiting for my time but i was position token 153 AGAIN - that is the 3rd week in a row Shock. However, it was busy today so hope that is a good thing.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone got on :)

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 10:24

I can't even remember what position I was. But my running app had me at 31 minutes. We'll see what the official time was later.

I did pb on 1/2 a mile, 1mile and 2 miles though, but it was my 2nd best 5k, although my best was very flat at the seaside, and our parkrun is anything but flat! :)

BIWI · 17/08/2013 10:25

Brilliant, IsThatTrue!

Bakingnovice · 17/08/2013 10:35

Hi everyone. Thank you for the encouragement yesterday. I'm v emotional today. I did my first park run! I have wanted to do it for years. I think I was about 197 and although on the treadmill I do 5k in about 37 mins I think I did it in about 45. Maybe my TM is wrong?

Loved every second. The volunteers who cheer you on are bloody amazing. I could actually cry today. I feel over the moon. A few months ago I could feel the onset of depression again. I've always preferred exercise over medication and never thought I'd run 5k. I can't wait to run next week.

It's my 10th week running. Can anyone give me weight loss tips? I've not lost much despite running 3x a week.

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 10:40

baking I didn't lose much to begin with as your body converts fat to muscle and muscle is heavier. But I'm losing weight now. What's your diet like atm? That might help me get an idea of what tips to give you. And CONGRATULATIONS on your first parkrun. Be proud of yourself. I think running outside is usually a bit slower than a treadmill as you aren't used to the terrain and sometimes zigzag across the path etc. but now you've got a base time you can try and improve on next week :)

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 10:43

Also baking have you measured yourself? I do my waist (smallest part) my chest (underboob) and my hips (largest part) so far I have lost 4 inches from chest and hips and 5 from waist. But I saw a drop in the measurements before i saw a drop in the weight.

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 17/08/2013 10:53

Hi, I know I joined quite late, but I do Parkrun too. Am hoping for a better time than last time but I know this was definitely one of my slower times.

Today's run was therefore okay but not that good- onne man speed WALKED past me Blush

Imwoodword · 17/08/2013 11:07

I managed my first one! Came 113 but no idea out of how many! Waiting for my time but very pleased with myself for doing it.

Agree with baking that the volunteers are great - my husband brought my 2 sons to watch me and is thinking of volunteering to do it, as long as he can have the boys with him.

Well done to all, did think when I was running round of you all doing it!

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 11:08

Welcome themagickey I love your name! Grin welcome to our online parkrun family. That must be some fast speed walking that man was doing! Shock but don't be disheartened. :)

MelanieCheeks · 17/08/2013 11:09

Well done everyone! I had fun marshalling. Very windy here so I dont think there'll be many PBs, but we did have a female first home.

baking exercise will not help you lose weight, diet does that. Exercise changes your shape and makes you feel better, but dont rely on it for weight loss.

IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 11:10

Well done imwoodward I'm pretty sure your DH can have the dcs with him while volunteering (and they can even volunteer too if they would like to 'help') its never too early to get them involved. I saw a 4year old running today! Shock

OP posts:
IsThatTrue · 17/08/2013 11:12

melanie what was your marshalling duty? We're you one of those lovely people cheering us on? :)
