Yes EMUZ still on the thread! Pester away.

Doing my callenetics DVD, which is quite hard work. Have to miss out a few bits due to strain on back, but can do 3/4 of it. Resumed my press ups cautiously and delighted to find that after 4,months away from press ups I can still manage 40 at one go. Seeing surgeon on Monday and will pester him with questions about returning to exercise, although realistically I think returning to slightly lower impact strength training first might be sensible rather than jumping straight in with Insanity!

Keep going everyone- some great results!

EMUZ · 25/06/2013 12:18

Oh thank you will try to keep it short. Am not v old (late twenties) and had sciatica pretty much constantly for 18 months. GP keeps referring me back to physio and won't give me MRI
I have neuro? Symptoms weakness in right leg. Back went totally last month and had to ring amb for gas & air. Sorry that was long! Just wondering how you got diagnosed?

notyummy · 25/06/2013 16:44

I think I was lucky in that my physio ( to whom I was referred to by GP) referred my straight away for an MRI and then having reviewed the results, sent me to see a surgeon. I hd an appt with a surgeon less than a week after the MRI (I e I had a date- the date itself was 2 months after the MRI. ) I think they often try and stall for time because apparently something like 90% of cases resolve in around 6 weeks without further intervention than physio. I had already been seeing a physio privately for 3 months before I went to see the GP and symptoms were getting worse. I would go back to GP and be firm that symptoms are worsening; outline the amount of time and emphasis the effect on your leg, which can cause long term issues.

EMUZ · 25/06/2013 16:51

Hopefully the physio will refer me. The pain shifted and went to all my lower back when it went I couldn't weight bear at all or move without screaming
Doctor doesn't seem to get how much exercise I do as I'm overweight not convinced he believes me but weights are my drug!

Reastie · 25/06/2013 18:11

EMUZ when I had an MRI on my back I was referred by an osteopath on NHS - could you try that route or are they keeping you with the physio? Sounds like it's not right.

EMUZ · 25/06/2013 18:50

Previously I've had physio via work, physio via GP, chiropractor privately and sports massage. Doctor is referring me again to physio so that's this week. I'm terrified to let anyone touch me after it went completely
At the moment I can exercise, just concentrating on really engaging core and tensing glutes, but it's a niggling pain
The problem is I horse ride (and compete) and I could do with knowing if I come off if there is something I have damaged already that I could worsen
Because no trauma started it they won't MRI... But 4 years ago I did the splits down a manhole (one leg in and one leg out) and I can't count how many times I've fallen off horses Grin
Plus I've a history of breaking both ankles by doing absolutely nothing, family history of osteoporosis and my dad has 2 slipped discs and 2 fractured vertebrae..

Mitchy1nge · 26/06/2013 10:40

ouch at all of that Shock good luck!

and good luck reastie, hope it arrives soon

where are you vito? Are you ok?

cannot believe is final week of month 1 already, feel more rubbish at it than when I started

TheBakeryQueen · 26/06/2013 14:04

Well done for persevering for a mth though!

I've got PCC again tonight, so far I think that was the hardest workout for me. I've nearly done the first week. Rest day tomorrow.

Bits are aching that have never before ached!

When I carry my 9mth old on my hip it hurts.

When I get up out of bed my abs hurt.

It's gotta be doing something.

I've lost weight too, in 5 days.

Mitchy1nge · 26/06/2013 14:16

I love pcc, was feeling a bit sad that there is only one more day of it on saturday before recovery week Confused

just watching 'core cardio and balance' (while I eat a massive bean and cheese burrito) to see what recovery week will be like, it looks fun so far

Reastie · 26/06/2013 14:28

Well, it's arrived today. Once big brown box with comparably small filling inside it. Just reading the blurb and feeling very scared about the workout - he makes it sound so extreme Confused .

TheBakeryQueen · 26/06/2013 14:44

Excited for you reastie Grin When are you starting?

Mitchy, does recovery look like it sounds? Easier?

I liked the cardio recovery.

Reastie · 26/06/2013 14:49

Fit test tomorrow. Might do workout one tomorrow too. I assume the fit test isn't an actual workout in itself and I can follow it with a workout????

Mitchy1nge · 26/06/2013 15:02

it will feel like a workout, there's a warm up stretches etc - look at the calendar, it treats it like one!

I dunno, it's not as sort of yoga-y as month one recovery, seems slowish to watch but I think it will probably be quite tough

I want to get back on their eating regimen and off my elite greasy Mexican nutrition plan - there's plenty of guacamole at least!

Reastie · 26/06/2013 15:06

OK, fit test it is on its own tomorrow then. Will report back with my likely shameful results.

Mitchy1nge · 26/06/2013 15:11

I cancelled my gym membership Shock

have been virtually every day for fucking ages, but since starting insanity the only thing I show up for is spin (and yoga) - yoga can do at home and at other better classes, I will miss spin but am Angry frustrated about the booking system there anyway, not sure the monthly subs are justified when there are not that many spin classes a week?

so will mourn my beloved spin for a while and maybe find a pay as you go place somewhere or get a solo running habit - but insanity must be good, nothing usually gets between me and my gym

Mitchy1nge · 26/06/2013 15:21

Good luck reastie, don't be scared, there is a lot of hype but really it's incredibly sensible and Shaun will tell you constantly to rest if you need to, go at your own pace etc - every little segment is, what, 30 seconds? You might struggle with some moves but you don't lose heart because it moves so quickly to something else

TheBakeryQueen · 26/06/2013 17:03

I know someone has already said it but the people in the video take unscheduled breaks too & look knackered at points & that helps!

Good luck reastie.

Reastie · 27/06/2013 07:49

Gah, cold coming on today and feeling rubbish today. Considering backing down from the fit test until the week end but might do it on the basis I'm not up to full speed. Typical! Even more typical is I'm outside all day tomorrow teaching outdoor cooking with rain forecasted and a cold. Can't wait Hmm . Thanks for all the good luck think I'll need it

mitch wow, must be good if you're cancelling your gym membership. I'm doing the same thing today actually. Have been doing workout DVDs for 3 months now to see if I can cope without the gym and I can :)

Reastie · 27/06/2013 09:44

OK just finished fit test. Here are the results:

switch kicks 114 (assuming each kick is 1, if it's 1 kick on each foot being 1 then it's 57 - does anyone know how to count this?)
power jacks 38
power knees 69
power jumps 25
globe jumps 7
suicide jumps 15
push up jacks 10
low plank oblique 39

Mitchy1nge · 27/06/2013 09:55

Poor you! If you wait until Monday it might be easier to keep track of the calendar? Am not trying to put you off obviously! But you will probably be fighting fit by then too?

Cardio recovery aka what's-the-fucking-point today

is weird not going to the gym, I don't know if I will last long without one - it's somewhere to go and not be interrupted, and there's lots of people around and a nice atmosphere of all different sizes and shapes and fitness levels all working on their own goals

but is also, I don't know, maybe £500 ish a year? that could help pay for a whole secondhand saddle which we urgently need

I might go for a very small run today and see what harm a few days of smoking did

Mitchy1nge · 27/06/2013 09:59

god I spent so long typing that bilge I missed your post! Well done! If you look at the fold out fit test thing it tells you how to count, so a switch kick rep = two kicks

we didn't notice this and I had to repeat globe jumps because my counting partner got it wrong Angry

but well done! Do you feel amazing?

EMUZ · 27/06/2013 10:03

Well I went to physio today and seem to have hit jackpot with a fab NHS physio. Apparently my core is weak, my sacroiliac and piriformis muscles are tight which is causing the back pain. I have tape on my back and been banned from any exercise for a week Shock

Reastie · 27/06/2013 10:15

mitch I feel unfit! I didn't do everything quite as perfectly as he explained (but then neither did the fit people behind him) so feel a bit like I'm cheating! I got really out of breath and sweated alot at the time but feel like I could go out on a run OK let's not kid myself, jog right now Grin . I'm working long hours tomorrow Angry so day 2 will take place on Saturday. I've just written my cancellation letter to my gym just now. It'll save me £900 a year Shock

EMUZ glad you've got a good physio now, hope it gets sorted and you're back quickly.

Mitchy1nge · 27/06/2013 10:46

yeah yeah when I say run I probably mean jog, maybe even walk and jog, am so grumpy I need to chill the fuck out somehow and that should be quite relaxing?

poor emuz, what else does physio plan to do?

Mitchy1nge · 27/06/2013 13:34

that didn't last v long, am going to look at a gym this pm Confused
