Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

Ooh I'm jealous Debi - I would love to go back to NZ. DH and I had a 3 week honeymoon there.

We did an Easter walking holiday in the Costa Brava a few years ago - was lovely, not too hot, plenty to see, Barcelona not too busy or hot.

This year I think we are going to try an area of Scotland we have not been before for summer - maybe Galloway (any recommendations welcome Grin).

I am taking a much simpler approach to HR training at the moment as per the base training thread on runners world. It suggests 180 - age (adjusted if super fit/couch potato etc) as max for all training runs until you can run 1hr at a fairly steady pace without the HR drifting upwards. Then introduce 1 -2 tempo sessions between this level and +10. Obviously, I am cheating by running faster on club nights 'cos I want to chat with my speedy friends Blush.

ibbydibby · 11/01/2012 11:26

Well done on your win Littlechief (have you seen cometition winners thread)

Peach good news about DP's job, though pain for you and running. You will hopefully get into a good habit of fitting a run in as and when...

Missed GBBO last night as was working (a bit frantic with work at mo). Will try to catch up on iplayer.

Debi am v envious of your trip to NZ.

Just back from 15 miles, knackered and can't really type so heading for choccy stash. Am a bit lost with all this heart rate stuff.

orangeLFDThead · 11/01/2012 11:41

debi Grin at you eating chocolate whilst watching biggest loser. Watching it made me put down my big bag of crisps I was scoffing. Although the only thing that me going on the last mile this morning was having a chocolate biscuit when I got home.
Well done ibby at the 15 miles. I'm a bit confused about HR stuff too though I do have a poplar HR monitor upstairs I keep meaning to put it on for a run just to see what it goes to. I know I have a high resting HR.
Did my 6 miles this morning, chest perfectly ok but legs just felt very heavy and I am really shattered now.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 11/01/2012 13:16

Am well jel of the NZ trip .....

Would love to take the dcs to Barcelona I though it was the perfect city. Or New York as DH and I conducted our long distance romance between London and NY all those years ago . But as I said this year DH and I will be Sid James and Hattie Jacques in Carry On Camping!

Budapest sounds lovely, might look into that for a short break later in the year ....

Just back from my 8 miles, slow due to lack of food energy. Beautiful morning here, pretty spring like for January?!

YeahThatsTheBadger · 11/01/2012 13:22

Well done orange! Glad you're feeling back to normal.

I'm planning to get to the gym tonight. I have no actual plan on how far to run but will just go with a distance and pace which I still find comfortable I think.

Holidays? I only ever go to Ireland. DH doesn't class it as a holiday but my granny is still going strong at 91 (out for an hours walk every day if the ground isn't slippy-she is hardcore) and I have lots of cousins who all have children so my dc's love it. Holiday this year is my brother is getting married in Galway in August and I'm bridesmaid. 6 weeks after my due date. Confused Not sure how I can breastfeed discretely in a dress that laces up at the back! :)

Glad your dp got a new job peach. You might have to join the other shred lovers to keep your fitness up between runs.
Hope the other job hunters have some luck soon. (Was it n4nny and squix or sfx?)

N4NNY · 11/01/2012 13:31

I've got a fun afternoon job Center to sign on followed by and cutting things fine a MRI scan one at 2.36 and one at 3.15 hopefully job Center not running late. Got running (School) club tonight as long as I feel ok after the fight to inject the die into my body.

RunnersTipple · 11/01/2012 14:51

Finally, I have managed to catch up. I keep thinking I must catch up before posting, but never getting to the end! Great race reports from the weekend, and belated welcomes to all the new (to the thread) runners. Hope scan goes well n4anny. Loved reading all the meeting DP stories. I was hugely hungover when I met my DH at a Sunday afternoon BBQ and he thought I was really quiet (ha, little did he know). We were introduced by my friend who was going out with his then housemate. We met again at a party at his house, he offered to walk me home and that was that. He claims to remember significant dates in our relationship by football tournaments: we met during Euro 96, married just after Euro 2000 and had DS3 during Euro 2008. Hmmmm.

I managed a five miler on Saturday, my longest run since HM back in September, and a gentle cross country three miler on Monday. Yesterday was planned rest day, except for Zumba, and had planned a four miler this morning, but had a meeting with head of prospective middle school for DS1, which I thought would finish at 10, giving me plenty of time to get home, change (DH forbade me going in running kit - can't think why), run and shower before knocking out a few emails and picking up DS3 from nursery, but in fact didn't get home until gone 11 which scuppered that plan Angry. So will go for four to five miler tomorrow with two friends instead.

I meant to say thanks Debi for HM training plan link with Runner's World, I've looked at that and at the one's in Women's Running from back in the summer (they had three for beginners, intermediate and those seeking PB), and I've sort of combined them. I'm aiming for four runs a week, three 30-45 minutes with some speed work in one or two of them and one LSR each week. I don't want to overdo it and aggravate my hip, which has been feeling much better but is a bit niggly today so an enforced rest is probably no bad thing.

Sorry, its an all me, me me post.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 11/01/2012 15:43

Thanks Ibby! What should I spend it on?

Wheelybug · 11/01/2012 15:53

What did you win chief ?

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 11/01/2012 15:55

£100 amazon voucher Grin

What would you spend it on? I am stuck and will just end up frittering it away on stuff for the kids.

RunnersTipple · 11/01/2012 16:02

new running gear of course!!

rhetorician · 11/01/2012 16:10

littlechief you can buy running gear on amazon, you know!

Wheelybug · 11/01/2012 16:18

Wow ! A great win ! I had 30 for Christmas and bought my new running
Belt thing with 2 small bottles which is great, the little I've used it. Then some stuff on kindle.

You can buy SO much on amazon. The trouble will be deciding !!

stickyLFDTfingers · 11/01/2012 16:57

congratulations littlechief - now's a great time to have £100 to spend, lots of things are reduced.

Went for a 7 mile run this morning and did alternate fast slow miles. Keeping to 9:20 for the fast miles was the goal, but actually was feeling pretty good so did 9:19, 8:55 and 8:31. For me a large part of it is confidence, which is a bit crazy really.

I do go really red when I run. I came back, had a drink, shower, changed and was ready to go up to Newcastle to meet a friend for lunch, checked in the mirror and I was still pretty pink - I must have been glowing like a warning light when I was actually running Blush

Hope you're OK N4NNY

Got a knock back for the job - apparently I'm ever so impressive (yeah right), but don't fit their requirements right now. Glum.

ibbydibby · 11/01/2012 17:16

Sticky really sorry about the job. Join the club. I found the only way to get over my disapppointment last week was to have a good cry and then forget it. Otherwise I would have spent the next few days stomping round the house. It is disappointing when you find out though, because until you know you are hanging on....

I have today found another job at same uni as one I had interview for last week. Is 20% so a bit less than I had hoped for but am going to apply...

Littlechief loads of stuff to choose from on amazon, just make sure it all goes on you. You won't have to spend it all once, I don't think.

Orange will have to join you on the "shattered" bench (preerably sofa actually) I think...my back is aching after this morning's run, the roads around here are not brilliant and it got jarred a lot. Does anyone find that with Garmin you try to run to a round number distance? Eg this morning, as appriached my house the mileage was 14.5 miles so ran to the end of road and back, mileage up to 14.77, so ran back the other way and back, up to 14.98, then quick sprint in front of neighbours house to make it 15....how mad is that?! Am trying to keep tabs on distance run this year, and have notched up 39 miles starting on Jan 4th. So quite pleased with that. Have spent hours trying to track down my running shoes on internet, in the hope of getting a cheap pair, but think they are last years can't find any in my size.

stickyLFDTfingers · 11/01/2012 17:23

thanks ibby. TBH I'm not so much upset as despondent, iyswim. Wondering should I do something else, if so what...

Good luck with your new application, good that there's something out there to apply for.

And yes, I do exactly that - running crazily around our streets to make sure the number fits! At first I used to get a few questions at the school gates - why were you running like a mad thing outside our house this morning?... now they're used to me :) Glad I'm not the only one.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 11/01/2012 17:47

OOooh ... I hadn't thought of running stuff.

I am also guilty of running up and down my street several times to get a round number - nuts, isn't it?

My new arm band thingy for smartphone came to day so I am planning a long run tomorrow (relatively) of 1.5 hours. Did a wee home weights/step-ups circuit this am while waiting in for a delivery.

Sorry to hear about job Sticky. You get have to get yourself so invested and psyched up for interviews then it all comes crashing back down if you don't get it. I sometimes wonder if I would be able to remain laid-back enough about a job application to avoid the stress without seeming like I didn't care about it at interview.

sfxmum · 11/01/2012 17:53

hello all

FB seems to be taking up my MNetting time, even managing a live chat thingy, down with the yoof obviously (my first time)

Ibby & sticky I hope the job situation improves. hard times these, most has little to do with ability and more to do with savings in departments/ firms

N4NNy hope you are ok is that a regular thing with MRI?

runners good luck with HM training

littlechief congrats, happy browsing and treat yourself

I managed a very quick dash this evening, down the towpath at dusk, just because I promised myself I would do something active/ exercise every day. Tomorrow I am off to the gym for a double session just after school run

DH has an interview tomorrow, on paper seems ideal, fingers crossed and positive vibes ladies please.
on my part I am sending CVs but only for temp jobs, so hope someone is willing to pay me peanuts once in awhile Grin

orangeLFDThead · 11/01/2012 18:01

Do be careful shred to be getting enough calories
Hope the scan go ok n4nny its not nice having to sign on, had to do it a few years back.
Runners my dh remembers significant dates in our relationship by wrestling matches, very romantic Hmm
Sorry about the job sticky, hope something comes up soon.
I have not got a garmin but can imagine I would do the same ibby
Sending good vibes for dh's interview sfx.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 11/01/2012 18:02

Congrats littlechief! I'm terrible for browsing on amazon, could spend unlimited amounts on there.

ibby I always end up with round numbers it would keep me awake at night if I didn't. Sorry about the job sticky. What is your area? Oh and I'm renowned for my beetroot face picking up from school, red face and wet hair, that's me. Attractive!

runnerstipple love the footie theme, isn't it the conception rate that's meant to spike during big sporting events? Although probably more to do with the average British male's relationship with alcohol than anything else ....

orange sounds like normal postviral tiredness, I always need an extra week to get back on track even when I'm feeling better.

Hope the MRI was ok N4NNY, I had one when massively pregnant with ds1 and his twin, it was rather uncomfortable to say the least!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 11/01/2012 18:06

Cross post sfx good luck for the job interview to your DH. You're right about budgets, DH is an in house lawyer and does a lot of interviewing, he finds it really frustrating when he finds someone he really likes and after three interviews his boss will say "hmm, not sure we can afford it" - thus wasting everyone's time and losing an ideal candidate into the bargain.

AngeChica · 11/01/2012 18:12

custard i would spend it on kindle books.... sigh.

It is a time trial at the running club tonight, handicapped starts - I am the 2nd out Blush.

for anyone who's interested in a cheaptastic holiday, we have a holiday home in Bulgaria. (I can direct you to pics on FB). it's not in a resort but in the middle of nowhere - 2 and 1/2 hour drive from Sofia, so for fans of independent travel only, really. I was thinking of putting it on the MN house swap as well actually.

stickyLFDTfingers · 11/01/2012 18:19

will be sending those positive vibes sfx, and hope that you get something that's a bit interesting too (or at least stress free!). Well done fitting in some exercise.

shred it seems to have been my lot to be that interview candidate atm! Am banking/financial services. Would do something else, but it's hard to convince anyone that I can change at my advanced age Hmm. Doesn't help that the NE is depressed in general, as well as my area in particular.

stickyLFDTfingers · 11/01/2012 18:22

ange at least you're not first! Is your house easy to find on your FB page? We're away at Easter, but if it was REALLY cheaptastic and perhaps I found a mini job or something it would be nice to get away in the summer too. Never been to Bulgaria, is it nice (have lived in Poland, though, so ex Eastern Bloc doesn't come as a total shock to me!)

Wheelybug · 11/01/2012 18:40

Sorry about the job sticky - as cliched as it sounds, I hope it means there is something better on the horizon. For you too n4nny. - hope today went ok !

House sounds lovely ange - a friend went to Bulgaria a in 2010 and the photos looks lovely . However, I think I'd like to go somewhere with other children around (although not too many) so the dds have company (so I can read my book in peace Wink).

On the subject of hols, we are probably doing a UK break at easter. Seaside a necessity (miss it like mad so need my fix)... Thinking suffolk or Norfolk

ankle still swollen and bruised although doesn't hurt to walk on much. Had swimming lesson and it hurt like mad doing front crawl Confused. Swimming teacher recommended her physio so am off to the gp tomorrow to get s referal and hope to get it covered by medical insurance and go from there.
