Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

Welcome all new peeps.

Good luck for the ravers this weekend!

Will someone send me a link to the FB group? I am JJ on FB and friends with Shred, Fanny and various others. Was thinking we needed some sort of interface between FB and MN!

No time to catch up properly, but badger hope the scan goes ok.

Shred I asked at running club on Thursday and looks like Parkruns are definitely happening in St Albans this month - woo hoo!

Planning on 6 miles tomorrow. Been to the tri shop to buy a variety of gels to see what suits me best. Oh and I am going to attempt a music free run Confused. DP has challenged me to beat his brother in the Cambridge half - would be a struggle for me probably but it's quite tempting if nothing else for mocking rights afterwards

Talking of which, (I know lots of sponsorship requests start coming out at this time of yearso apologies) but I've decided to do the Cambridge half in aid of Cancer Research (if nothing else, i can't wimp out of it), and so if you have any spare cash, would love some sponsorship. It's on my FB page or I can send you a link.

stickyLFDTfingers · 07/01/2012 14:09

cherry I think I just added you.

badger thinking of you this afternoon at the scan, hope all is well. I know what you mean, DP kept looking at me whenever DD2 latched the first couple of week cos I couldn't do it without opening my eyes very wide and going "naaa" in a high pitched voice Grin. Must have been a bit weird to watch!

sonic that was a great run, and certainly counts as your "freedom" HM. Shock and Grin for getting your NY resolution done by the 6th. Perhaps you should have a resolution per week from now on!

Great run too justoneminute - you'll be whizzing round Brighton!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 07/01/2012 14:43

Afternoon all! Very pleased to be in a secret club I usually find out about secret clubs after they've disbanded!

Took boys to footie this morning and did my 8 miles, but found it very tough. It's a beautiful spot for a run, NT woodland on the edge of the Chilterns, deer bounding around, but a combination of hills and not enough food meant I was suffering. Being the utter twat I am however I ploughed on. Leading to DH (quite reasonably) pointing out that using 900ish calories after a 250 calorie brrakfast and a week of going carb free is fucking stupid. Am going to have to find a balance here.

cherry I know you said your DP sometimes heads up to Dunstable Downs or Ivinghoe for a hill workout, does he ever go to Ashridge? So pretty up there.

Think you are all on to something with the school/sport issue, I was very sporty though at school and good at cross country and swimming, though I didn't like team games. Lost interest at uni though. I was on the hockey team but spent most of my time organising pub crawls social events.

My boys are not gifted in any sport, but they enjoy it and that's as important to me. There was a boy in reception at their old school who was training twice a week with Chelsea - yes you read that right, in reception. He initially started with Spurs aged three but got poached. Amazingly talented but according to his mum even with his talent only 1 in 100 boys who ever attend the training will ever play for the Chelsea youth team, let alone the adult team. Kind of puts it in perspective.

Anyway .... Great times from you other lot . Off to walk the dog and ponder stuff.

orangeLFDThead · 07/01/2012 16:07

oh never been in a secret group before, how exciting. Can I just check can my other fb friends see that I am a member of this group?
What was the superchicken fan group peach?
Well done sonic, sticky and futurity some great running at the mo (just not by me)
Its a difficult one rhet I don't want him to realise what is dad is really like as I don't want to see him hurt but sometimes when he going on about how great his dad is I really have to bite my tongue and smile, no pleasing me Smile. He did turn up this morning.
Welcome sofa sounds like you doing well. I also hated any sport or excerise at school and had every excuse in the book to get out of pe.

backwardLFDTpossom · 07/01/2012 16:15

No Orange, it's a secret group, so only members of the group can see it and what is posted in it. No muggles allowed.

AlmaMartyr · 07/01/2012 16:18

Oooh, lovely morning shopping with my mum for my birthday, lots of lovely new clothes.

I'm thinking I may go for a Runner's World subscription, nice to have the motivation through the door once a month!

I'm on FB but not sure I have any of you on there, although I have other MNers from various things.

DrNortherner · 07/01/2012 16:29

Hi All Smile

Love the FB group. Easier to get on FB then on here sometimes, and I do think it's better not to bore the tits of our non running mates when we witter on about times and stuff.

My legs ached after my 8 today. I picked the pace up in last 2 miles and SIL was struggling to keep up. She breathes very noisily, from very early on, where as I hardly make any noise at all. Do you think I could push myself harder or are some people just noisy breathers? There is a guy at our club we call Darth Vader, he makes so much noise it's off putting.

How is everyone? How are the thread babies getting on?

peach very impressed with you getting right back out there. Well done!

fanny I see on the race list Blackpool half is down as 10 March but I thought it was 11th? Hmm

Wheelybug · 07/01/2012 16:37

LOL at no mUggles allowed. Well done possum on the new group.

glad dh turned up orange. Sounds a very hard situation with ds1.

Good running today from lots of you Grin. I have just done 5 miles. Feeling a bit bleurgh today, I think mainly because I ate too much cheese yesterday (am a bit allergic). So last thing I felt like but managed to pipck up the pace in the last mile to 7.34 which was quite pleasing.

DD1 currently thrashing DH on wii sports - the wii was the dds Christmas present from MIL and wii sports was DH's pressie from my bro so he's not happy he's being beaten by a not quite 7 year old. Hee Hee

OTheHugeManatee · 07/01/2012 17:06

Can I join? I did the C25K last year and am now loving my regular runs! I'm on a rest week at the moment after a calf strain threatened to turn into shin problems, so doing a daily yoga session instead, but hopefully will be cautiously returning to a 3-4x weekly running schedule again in a few days' time. Please help me stay motivated - I don't want to end up not picking the running up again after a break!

orangeLFDThead · 07/01/2012 17:11

Im a noisey breather when running too, hence why I like to run to music so I can't hear myself as it is off putting.
Welcome OTheHugeManatee

futurity · 07/01/2012 17:29

I'm also a noisy breather ...I pant lots (sounds dodgy!). Trying to get better by breathing slower and deeper but instinct is to pant and tire myself out. I have the same sort of problem swimming. I think breathing in general is an issue for me but got to do it really!

stickyLFDTfingers · 07/01/2012 17:36

yes, do stick with that breathing thing futurity! I was thinking I must scare the others at park run, wheezing away like a pit pony! I don't do it when I'm running more slowly, but don't seem to be able to help it when I'm trying to run more quickly.

othehugemanatee hello! It won't be a problem staying motivated here, I promise.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 07/01/2012 17:57

Oh gosh yes I'm a mouth breather I'm afraid, I absolutely cannot breathe through my nose (even sat still I would struggle) - I sound like Puffing Billy on a run. LOL at Darth Vader!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 07/01/2012 17:59

Goodness I do sound so attractive - one leg longer than the other, mouth breather, overweight, sticks bum out while running. It's a wonder I persuaded anyone to combine genes with me really.

DrNortherner · 07/01/2012 18:08

Well I overpronate and spit Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 07/01/2012 18:13

I like to think I cornered a niche market.

fannybanjo · 07/01/2012 18:35

I run like a twat gazelle

fishie · 07/01/2012 19:17

and i shuffle like an oap, cannot pick my feet up and prance, I fall over far too often. I have got quite good at rolling actually, stunt-plodder!

Today 6min per k sans dog. I will try 15k tomorrow. Has been about three months...

Do any of you run mainly off road? What do you do about races?

peachsmuggler · 07/01/2012 19:41

Well done on the pb sticky!

futurity, you are quietly becoming awesome at running my dear. Not at breathing it seems however Wink

Welcome sofa and huge You've come to the right place!

cherry, I'll sponsor you!, Don't think I have you on fb though, what's your initials?

shred, listen to DH. You are a runner, you need carbs!

orange. I could tell you the details of the superchicken fan club, but then I'd have to kill you.

Happy Birthday Alma

DrNo, I don't make much noise. But then I don't make much effort.... Wink

wheely, a cheese overdose sounds just what I need!

Have had miserable day with DD2 being a very fussy bugger baby. You know one of those days where they won't sleep, just take little catnaps and so are grumpy all day and feeding/fussing about. Exhausting. Going to have a glass of wine and chocolate cupcake. With mixed bean chilli in between to mend my bot bot.

I am a mono-browed, short-arsed, broken-bottomed, numpty. Beat that freaks!

fannybanjo · 07/01/2012 19:55

Giving the obligatory post as feel mean I've absconded to FB...

Well done fishie. Sorry to be ignorant - are you training for a race?

fannybanjo · 07/01/2012 19:56

Oh peach here - have some Tiger Beer and Xmas cake. Babies so unpredictable aren't they?

futurity · 07/01/2012 20:11

peach thanks for comment about being awesome ...I've never been called awesome before! If I could just sort my breathing out (pant pant) I might progress some more!

fishie · 07/01/2012 20:13

no race training for me fanny. I like woods and solitude but that means i have to take the dog early mornings for peace of mind. It is fun but very slowing and I've gone right off the boil while he's been in training.

also I went back to minimal shoes which makes slow too. that's why I wonder about races, I'd like somethig to aim for but not if it means road running.

backwardLFDTpossom · 07/01/2012 20:16

I don't know where you live, fishie but up here, there are loads of trail races. I did a 10k race in the woods last year and it was great fun! I've added you to the FB group, btw :)

fishie · 07/01/2012 20:20

possom I am there!

now here i am in London (rhet must be close by?) so all the races are pavement except one 5k and the park runs.
