Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

I've just fInished Born to Run which is a great book. Moshi sent it to me. Who'd like it next? Happy to post it to anyone.

Haven't actually read all of this evening's 358 posts, so sorry if I've missed something.

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 22:52

Really interesting to hear about your training and races morvern, it's great to have an ultrarunner in our midst!

backwardLFDTpossom · 06/01/2012 23:03

Ooh morvern I'm being a bit dim, just noticed your username. I loved that book. I did my Higher English folio on it. Grin

Debi I'd love to read it if that's ok? Let me know and I'll pm you my address?

fanny get thee to the docs, that is an order! Wink

Would it be an idea to set up a FB group so we can keep track of MN runners/usernames more easily? I'll do it if you think it would be a good idea.

MorvernCallar · 06/01/2012 23:09

backward - i loved that book, too, so much so that dd2 is named after it, but spelled morven like the hill where there is a race on the weekend of her birthday (sentimental sigh): 'me want to go running on my hill again, mummy ...' Grin

orangeLFDThead · 06/01/2012 23:10

Debi think I could just see your profile pic, but not to sure.
Grin sticky at your tin opener.
That dress is gorgeous bonkers and your dh sounds like mine too. Enjoy the wedding.
Waves to moshi glad you doing ok.
Hope you feeling better soon alma its frustrating is'nt it.
welcome glitch and justoneminute
I have fb you possom
Well done fanny thats amazing. Always best to get checked out but sure it's nothing.
Yes it's me wheely
Good luck for the scan badger
I just keep bookmarking link to article and stuff you posting hoping at some point I will have time to read.
Now that I have finally caught up I am ready to sleep.
Did 6k on treadmill after work. Went ok, seem to be coughing less so might see how I get on outside next week as I really hate the treadmill.
Just incase you didn't already realise my my ex is a deadbeat wanker. He was supposed to pick the kids up at 3.30 then he changed it to 4.30 then to 6pm then 7.30. Then text to say the traffic was to bad on the motorway and he will pick them up in the morning instead Angry. Ds1 is really upset ds2 couldn't care less. But we have all had a nice evening together but feel so bad for ds1 he really thinks the sun shines out of his dads arse and of course can't tell him what he is really like so have to bite my tongue hence why venting on here sorry.

bonkersLFDT20 · 06/01/2012 23:12

YES backward! Apart from Rhet and Moshi I can't seem to keep track of who is who on FB. I know who the running people are on FB, just can't tally them to the people on here. Perhaps I'm a bit dim!

futurity · 06/01/2012 23:13

Can I have the book afterwards please Smile

stickyLFDTfingers · 06/01/2012 23:21

oh orange you really don't need that stress on top of everything else. How is your DH with the shingles?

Must be getting off to bed, park run tomorrow! :)

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 23:36

orange, your ex really does need a rocket up his arse. Poor DS1

good luck at park run sticky

orangeLFDThead · 06/01/2012 23:49

Dh seems to be getting better thanks sticky. Have been giving him homoepathic stuff which seems to have really helped.

backwardLFDTpossom · 07/01/2012 00:17

I have set up the group. If you're not a member and want to be, let me know - it probably just means I'm not your FB friend... yet Wink

peachsmuggler · 07/01/2012 00:29

Thanks for the secret group possum! I've never been in a secret group. Unless you count the Superchicken Fan Club which was infrequently held in my garage as a child....

SonicMiddleAge · 07/01/2012 01:01

All, thanks for the advice. I went out this morning, which was cool and breezy, had found a route that took me past 5 water fountains so I didn't have to carry a bottle, and did a HM distance in 1hr 57. Am really pleased with myself - have never run more than 10miles before, so feel really positive about Busselton HM in feb. And even if I can't do it for any reason, if my ops gets moved fwd or weather goes too hot, I'm going to count the time as acheivingmy sub 2hr NY goal! Have decided energy drinks don't sit well with me, so ate jelly beans at 18 km which sent me buzzy home happily! I know it's nothing like fanny's 22mile acheivement which is incredible!

possum can I plese join the fb gang too?

rhetorician · 07/01/2012 06:31

orange don't worry, in time, your dss will see your ex for what he is; morvern love your dd's comment (and her name!); am way at the back of the pack for the book, but would love to read it after whoever is having it next

sonic great time! it sounds like hydration is the key for you - goal achieved by Jan 6! impressive

I rather like the secret group Wink

right best make the tea and try and get a bit more kip

SofaKingOld · 07/01/2012 09:15

Good morning!

Do you mind if I join you? Been lurking for a while.........my running buddy from the C25K thread has stopped running and I found being on a thread really helped to spurtle me on.

I started C25K in September as a way to help DS1 (11) increase his activity. I've become addicted to running which I never really expected as I was so crap at it at school (and used to sit under the bridge smoking instead of doing xcountry and join the class as they passed)Blush.

I've decided to go for it this year! Started B210K and have my first 10K on 1st April is aware of the irony. Looking for a HM in June to do with my DSIS and have entered the GNR ballot for September so have my fingers crossed.

backwardLFDTpossom · 07/01/2012 10:14

Welcome to the thread, Sofa - I am another "hated running at school but am converted now" runner! Wink

Speaking of which, I meant to say yesterday, I was out walking near a secondary school the other day and a PE class had obviously been sent out for a run along this woodland path (it was about a mile long) and bless them, you could see the sporty ones bombing off in the distance and there were 2 'larger' kids at the back just walking along. You could tell they HATED running with a passion. I walked along the path quicker than they did and found the geocache I was looking for before they'd finished their 'run'. There was a woman passed them near the finish who joked "not long now boys". Shame!

sonic of course you can - are you FB friends with anyone on the thread, as they could add you to the group? If not, PM me your details and I'll add you. :)

cestlavie · 07/01/2012 11:03

Hiya sofa welcome to the thread!

Sorry to hear about ex and DS1 orange. Hope he turned up on time this morning...

And well done on the run sonic - great time!

Happy weekend all!

RunningAllDay · 07/01/2012 11:06

Thanks so much morvern - very very useful. Am inspired. Will look into the ultra groups (though finding it hard to think of myself as in any kind of ultra territory despite the WF entry!); maybe I can lurk for a bit...

Hello sofa! I reckon all the people who were good at running at school have stopped by the time they are 30. Its the people who were terrible at sport at school that have nothing to lose to take it up later in life! Well, that goes for me, anyway!

stickyLFDTfingers · 07/01/2012 11:16

Oooh secret group!

That's good orange, a friend of mine had shingles and it was horrid, kept "recurring" (usually at the worst possible moment).

hi sofa! Hope you get your place in the GNR ballot, there seem to be quite a few on the thread in it too. I will be there!

Had a really nice park run this morning. Lovely to see the other crazy running folk, and according to the garmin I PeeBeed - 27:28. Very happy with that, especially considering the extra load attached post-xmas!

backwardLFDTpossom · 07/01/2012 11:22

Nice one sticky :)

rhetorician · 07/01/2012 11:33

well done sticky!

futurity · 07/01/2012 11:53

Well done sticky!

I did an interval run this morning. 4.75 miles including 2 miles at just over 9 min/mile pace. Not done that before...the first fast mile was hard but then had half a mile recovery before the second fast mile which was REALLY hard. Then I did another 1.75 slow at the end..again that was weird..running slower after having done such an effort in the previous mile.
I suppose it is to teach yourself to run on tired legs or something.

I've also got a painful blister which is annoying me now...the side effect of new shoes. Moan moan Wink

stickyLFDTfingers · 07/01/2012 12:09

thank you! And well done on the interval running futurity - lots of LFDTing this morning I think...

predictably I've been staring, analysing, nay obsessing over the stats (for the whole 3 miles Grin). It was 8:43 for the first mile, 9:00 for the second and 8:52 for the third (and 7:55 for the last few metres - I wasn't going to be overtaken by the woman coming up behind me!). So I need to speed up the second mile. Simples!

SofaKingOld · 07/01/2012 12:17

Thanks for the welcomes.Smile

That's a great time Sticky. My last parkrun was on Christmas Eve so aiming to go next Saturday. I'm determined to get a sub 30 before Easter. DS managed it before the end of 2011 because I bribed him with £20.

runningallday I think you might be on to something there with those of us not being good at sport at school 'blossom' later on.

Backward I find it really Sad how they 'teach' running in a lot of schools.

I've just got back from W2R1 of bridge to 10k so did 3 x 15 mins and covered about 6.5K. Not very fast as working with my HR monitor but really enjoyed it and managed to say hello to people I passed rather than just breathing heavily! I can only dream of a 9min mile at the minute futurity....

JustOneMinute · 07/01/2012 13:34

Well done sofaking good going, you will be there in no time at all

Sticky ? well done on the park run PB that is great. We have a park run very close to me here but I have never braved to enter it for some bizarre reason. Sonic great time wow especially if you have never run a HM distance before.

I was not so hot running at school either, I used to swim a lot though so the teachers thought because I was reasonably fit at that I would be good at the cross country/1500m running and kept shoving me in teams, that experience scarred me for quite a while until post 2 DC?s?..

Lovely LSR this morning in beautiful sunshine, 12 miles in 1hr54. It was supposed to be slow but I looked down at the garmin every now and again and it was registering faster than I liked. My guess is that my shorter tempo type runs are over reasonably hillyish terrain yet my long slow route seems to be very flat. It totally threw my pacing out and I struggled a bit at the end tbh. I will suffer for it later I am sure and for some stupid reason only running snack I could find was a small pack of 'chewits'.... not recommended. Lots of runners out and about too though which was nice to see.
