Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

Hi all... I've been sway about 24 hours and there's about a million posts ....

Well done fanny on 22 miles - what's another 4 ?! on the gel front I have now tried lucozade and SIS ones and find the latter preferable and more runny so they are more like a drnk than gloopy. I posted before about this but sweatshop are gong to have s week at end of Jan where they are only 62p each.

Welcome new people ! morven you sound hardcore - v. Impressed with those distances. Hello oneminute And glitch. Welcome aboard.

bonkers. Be beautiful dress! I think judging by Facebook the wedding is near me in K ? Hope all goes well. I have only been a bridesmaid once and I was 21 and put in a pink frou frou number and it was the late 1990s so well out of fashion. Am scarred.

My parents babysat for me last night so i could go out to my book club Christmas night out - drank far too much and got in far too late but had to take the opportunity of childcare this morning and did 5 miles in gorgeous sunshine. I am thinking if writing a training plan which contains 'hangover runs' . I think they are useful endurance training . Back on the straight and narrow after Saturday. No more boozing till after the half in feb.

I got running goodies today - Not that I am your stalker futurity but my new Nathan belt arrived and feels like it is just the thing. Also got my Christmas pressie from my bro - triathlon book and that book about the guy who did an ironman (andy holgate?). I will try the belt out tomorrow on a 5 miler before I use it on Monday for another 12 miler.

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 16:37

On the subject of running mags. I like oth runners world and women's running - agree the latter is less in depth but sometimes thats good, I had a sub to RW for Christmas and liked it so far.

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 16:40

Accepted CT on Facebook. Can't remember who that is, sorry... Is it orange ?

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 16:44

Welcome JustOneMinute - you'll love it here - this thread had honestly made me a better runner. 5 months ago I popped on here when I was training for Great North Run and I didn't have a clue. Fast forward to now and I've moved into true running territory and I have these lovely people to thank for spurring me on.

Who's not on my FB...? I don't think I have bonkers - wheely are you on mine? Get so confused with real life!

sticky thanks for link re mag - I've ordered. I buy it every month so saved me a few quid!

Thanks all for your praise - I'm feeling very proud of myself... Smile it's lovely to be able to share triumphs on here and also on FB, so glad I rejoined.

Shred you'll be back in long distance mode soon enough. However not without carbs you freak!!!

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 16:46

Yes fanny I am VH

futurity · 06/01/2012 16:48

I wore my Nathan belt yesterday for my speedy run..didn't really need it but thought I should get used to it. It is absolutely fine and doesn't move at all...I imagine it would be a bit heavy if both drinks bottles were full but I can't see me needing to do that unless I trained for a marathon?

I see you mentioned Andy Holgate....well I have had emails from him (smug). I sent him a message on Twitter saying how I liked his book and that I was nervous about taking the step to do a triathlon. He responded with some encouraging words and his email address. I emailed explaining my worries and he has sent me two long emails with advice in as well as places to get cheap tri suits etc. Seems like a nice bloke who is a keen ironman but also remembers what it is like to start out.

cestlavie · 06/01/2012 16:59

Wow lots of facebooking on here!

Great run fanny. Haven't done that sort of distance for a little while but I remember after 20 miles you begin to really feel it in your legs. Remember doing one 22 mile training run with a friend who had to stop at a newsagent near the end and eat a slab of chocolate before he could carry on.... I have SO got my running mojo back at the moment!

You'll get back on the distance shred. Funny how when you're training for a marathon you think "pah, a mere 10 miles"! On iron I have Solgar gentle iron capsules which are, um, more gentle on your digestive system usually with a Berocca for the Vit C to help absorption (oh yes, I know how to live!)

Wheely I've had Runners World for about 6 months now and it's good but gets a little repetitive. They seem to usually have a handful of really good articles and a handful of stuff they churn out about eating and drinking. Love their race reports though and this month's had some great personal stories about why people run.

Glad you enjoyed your runs runningallday and littlechief. I love it when it's sunny and cold in the mornings. Just perfect for running.

Hiya justoneminute - welcome to the thread!

JustOneMinute · 06/01/2012 17:39

Thank you all for the welcomes

Fanny ? great run 22 mile wow. How far you have come is quite inspiring

Futurity, Wheely All the belt and gels etc talk is interesting. I don?t take anything other than water on my long runs but I suspect when I race the half I will need something so am contemplating practicing. I carry a water bottle which I find OK but was contemplating a small pack for ?snacks?.

Planning a 12 mile long run tomorrow. Before last week the maximum I had run before was 10.5miles, I planned an 11miler but took a wrong turn and ended up doing 12.5 Grin

Just added my races (brighton half and BUPA 10k) to the list and glitchs 10k too.

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 17:47

Oh yes, good luck weekend racers bumply running ibby. Oh good, feels like it's been a while since we had regular racing !

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 06/01/2012 18:02

Well Done Fanny - that is a great achievement.

Good Luck racers.

squix · 06/01/2012 19:09

Well done fanny - good stuff. Good luck bumply - looks like tomorrow should be a good day for you weather wise. Is your route off road or on the road round the park? Good luck to ibby and running too.

futurity - I use the bottles on my Nathan belt if I am going over 10 miles or it's v hot. I have not used it during a race. Most of the races I've done have a water station so I've never really needed to.

AlmaMartyr · 06/01/2012 19:14

Wow, lots of people from Devon! I do know the Two Moors way, hadn't thought of running it! I grew up in Broadclyst and moved out this way a few years ago. The walking around here is superb. Actually, some of the reservoirs in Devon would probably be good running as well - we go to Roadford Lake a bit and I imagine that could be a nice run. The Granite Way is gorgeous, especially when you can stop off and have a picnic on the moor overlooking Meldon - gorgeous!

Thanks for the link to Women's Running, I'm going to order that. Still undecided about birthday presents, I'm a nightmare for this kind of thing. I like the idea of a magazine arriving once a month to motivate me.

Apparently the GP wants to see me to go over blood test results so think I maybe have an iron deficiency or something (struggled with that in the past). Hopefully can get everything sorted and get back to normal.

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 19:36

Thanks again everyone! Good luck ibby squix and bumbly for your races.

I'm a teeny bit concerned and wasn't going to mention it but on last 2 miles of run, I got chest pains hence slowed down. My friend who works as nurse in Heart Ward mentioned I should get it checked out as angina can set in like that. My dad had massive heart attack age 42 and has awful heart problems Sad. I haven't mentioned it to DH or my parents as they'd worry. Do you think I should get it checked or could it just be the distance took its toll? Sad

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 19:38

Sorry not squix meant Runningallday!!! Blush

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 19:41

Saying that on researching it could just be muscular... Phew!

liath · 06/01/2012 19:42

What was the pain like, Fanny and where was it? I'd be more worried if it was central or left sided, felt tight or crushing or if you felt very breathless or sick. have you ever had it before? It's unlikely to be angina in someone your age and fitness but if it happens again I'd definitely see your GP. HTH

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 19:50

liath it was central - the reason I worry is my dad was very fit (played Squash night before massive heart attack) and my health mirrors his in some ways - very similar kidney problems in our twenties. However I would surmise that it's muscular as 22 miles of arm pumping is hard!

fishie · 06/01/2012 20:25

Fanny of course you've got to get a check. It will likely say you are wonder woman but what if...?

My dad has heart failure, but carries on fine years beyond his life expectancy. I am hoping that running will help me as like you my health mirrors his.

squix · 06/01/2012 20:44

fanny - phew - gave me a surprise there - thought I'd entered a race and forgotten about it!

And yes - get checked out.

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 20:49

yes fanny if you're worried get it checked but chances are it's something less worrying. Could it have been a stich or not that sort of pain ?

futurity Andy Holgate sounds like a great chap ! looking forward to reading the book. On that note bumply it was me that said about 'run!' - I hadn't read it but it sounds like I should download it for the kindle in th sale.

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 20:50

fanny get it checked - I was in the doc yesterday because of the optician, because of my family history (father dead of massive heart attack at 45), but she was very reassuring, and sent off various things for me. My blood pressure is on the higher end of normal, and if the cholesterol comes back high, then that's 3 risk factors - and I have 2 tiny children who are financially dependent on me, apart from anything else...

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 06/01/2012 20:52

fanny of course go and get it checked out. They will probably do some simple blood tests, an ECG - I had one due to some fairly frightening palpitations. All was fine, but I was glad it was checked - looks like mine was due to anaemia and low blood pressure. Also found out I have very low cholesterol, which sounds good but I also have very low good cholesterol too. So need to keep an eye on getting enough good fats.

How is your blood pressure by the way? Does it tend to high or low, or normal? Did you feel sick or weak when you got the pain? Any tingling or neck pain?
