Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

wheely I've just finished "run" after getting in the sale...it's a good easy read ...the chap is hardcore !

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 21:11

big flurry of posts there, and I haven't chance to catch up with all of you (suspect this would be true if we all ran together, too!); but wanted to welcome all the new runners (you all seem right at home already) and just to say 'hello', really. Off to London in the morning...

bonkersLFDT20 · 06/01/2012 21:12

Get it checked Fanny. The worry that's in your head already is only going to make it worse.

Git DH has ripped out and taken the vital pages of the A-Z. Looks like I'll be replying on daft AA route map and DS1 to navigate me to the wedding hotel!
My sis (the bride) told me ages ago I needed to be at her place for "hair and beauty" at 10am, but this evening changed it to 9.30am. I don't think so sweetie. Already getting me and the 2 DS2 up and on the road for 7am. Surely it doesn't take 4 1/2 hrs to make me presentable to the world at large!!!!

Right, off to iron the brand new shirt for DH. No idea what size his neck is (very, very small once I've finished wringing it!), so I went for 15.5. Packed ALL his ties.

Sorry, I've turned into a bridesmaid'zilla!

cestlavie · 06/01/2012 21:14

Yep fanny definitely get it checked out mate. Will almost certainly say that you are staggeringly fit and it's something muscular/ nerve related but is always worth being 100% certain in cardiac matters (speaking as someone whose dad, grandfathers and uncles have all died of heart failure...) Worth, if you can, maybe getting a stress ECG where they run an ECG on you whilst you're exercising... They pick up any little niggles that only come out Unser stress. Mental note, get this done myself as I keep meaning to do!

cestlavie · 06/01/2012 21:15

Enjoy the wedding bonkerzilla!

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 21:26

cest my doc said that in her view stress tests were worse than useless - but I'm not sure why she thinks this!

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 21:35

Thanks all - I was taken by ambulance to hospital when pregnant with DD3 for similar and given an ECG and all was fine - it surely must be muscular. Blood pressure pretty perfect though.

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 21:36

Oh enjoy being a bridesmaid bonkers!

Wheelybug · 06/01/2012 21:39

Good luck rhet and bonkers with your family events !

sfxmum · 06/01/2012 21:40

hello very quick post to wish best of luck for the weekend racers
running ibby bumply

bonkers enjoy the wedding, the dress looks nice (pics)

fanny do get it check regardless, you will then run more freely
I have a horrible fear of doctors even when I clearly desperately need to go,
no fear of needles though, those I likeHmm

peach dh has a possible, they are checking rates but we shall see, early days, thanks for asking

welcome to newbies and lurkers

I did go out this morning with dh, he gave up after a mile but went for a longer run later in the day, he will be sculling tomorrow and I will be busy with other stuff but maybe Sunday we can do this again
gorgeous day, really wonderful sunshine by a very full and still river

sorry for all I missed, very sleepy again, all nighters take their toll at my age, even without alcohol Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 06/01/2012 21:41

fanny please, do get checked. rhet - I think I might have said this before, but my Dad had a heart attack while having a stress test. I suppose that would have been absolutely the definition of worse than useless had he died, fortunately they got him back and gave him a triple by pass. He's still here! Has the diet from hell (and is going to have another stent put in in the next few weeks), but he's here, that's the important thing.

Anyway, serious face off now. Have a fabulous time bonkers and enjoy all the pampering and beautifying!

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 21:42

fanny, yes defo see the gp. If you get it again, in a marathon, you will push yourself to finish and likely won't listen if your body is telling you to stop so best to find out cause beforehand. It is probably nothing sinister but be on the safe side Smile

I got RW sub for Xmas and have had it few times before. It is a bit repetative, yes, but good in a geeky way. I find it quite motivating!

bonkers, hope the wedding is fun. I've been a bridesmaid twice, both times for sisters, and kind of under protest! Ha ha. Dressed in vile claret number at age 12 and hideous floral headpiece. Why why why?

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 21:47

sticky - yes my doc told me a story like that, but also that her own dad passed with flying colours, but ended up with stents abotu 6 weeks later...

dd2 wrecked and needs to go to sleep (you know that way that they get more and more wound up...), so think we might give up and go to bed soon. Life on mars has never been watched so slowly...

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 06/01/2012 21:48

Good luck weekend ravers!

Looking forward to my longer run tomorrow, as you say cest it's a mental issue bearing in mind that 8-10 was my regular medium midweek run when marathon training!

Sobering and very sad to hear how many parents of those on this thread with cardiac issues. My bête noire is diabetes - my gran type 1, my mum type 2, cousin (female) type 1, I had gestational diabetes and my brother has pre-diabetes. It's the main reason I'm trying to shift the weight, and a big incentive for keeping running.

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 21:53

Welcome glitch, and justoneminute!

futurity, how nice of that guy!

Rhet, hope it goes well at your mum's this weekend. If she drives you utterly mental, pop round here for a cup of herbal tea and a plain oatcake!!! (we are out of treats Sad) if DD1 hadn't been with me at shops today I would definitely have bought a half price selection box...

Your run sounds lovely cest, it certainly was a great day for running.

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 21:59

Weighed myself today and am same as I was a couple of weeks after DD2's birth so at least didn't put much on at Xmas. Phew!

Would give my right arm for a mince pie right now.

Good luck bumply tomorrow! And ibby and running for Sunday,

YeahThatsTheBadger · 06/01/2012 22:07

Good luck all those running this weekend.

I haven't been for a run this week at all. :( Keep getting pains in my belly which I'm putting down to everything starting to stretch earlier as it's dc3. I think it started earlier for dc2 than it did for dc1. And the pain of my uterus contracting when breastfeeding dc2 was fecking agony compared to dc1. I was not prepared for that. Anyway, I have my first proper scan tomorrow afternoon and so long as all is well then I'll be raring to go Sunday morning. :)

fanny the majority has spoken. :) You feel fine in yourself and so chances are that it is nothing but for your own piece of mind, you should go to your gp.

Enjoy the wedding bonkers!

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 22:08

last of mince pies devoured in this house - dec 6th is nollaig bheag, or little Christmas, or what's sometimes known as women's christmas - the day when they traditionally got to put their feet up. But it marks the end of the festivities - we had visitors all day, and dd2 is now overwrought.

might take you up on that tempting offer peach! 2 nights unbroken sleep is the payback, I guess

RunnersTipple · 06/01/2012 22:10

Fanny just to echo everyone else, please go and get yourself checked.

Good luck to all this weekends rubbers and ravers, bridgesmaidzillas and dutiful daughters this weekend. Can't wait for race reports...

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 22:11

Good luck with the scan badger, how exciting!

I had more uterine pains when pg with DD2 than DD1. Agree on the afterpains too. When I was bf DD2 just after she was born, I used more G&A than during the labour!!

peachsmuggler · 06/01/2012 22:13

Never thought of that Rhet! will be nice to recharge the old batteries. Enjoy!

MorvernCallar · 06/01/2012 22:14

sorry to interrupt Wink, but this is just to answer some of runningallday's questions from a few pages back ...

no, i don't run all of the long races, nowhere near. (wish i could, though!) usually there's navigation involved, which is a chance for a breather, and i'll walk up any serious hills (or anything resembling a slight incline). when i did the round rotherham last october i was really chuffed to only walk on the (few) hills and run the rest - slowly, admittedly, but it was running. pacing, i think, is everything - much better to run slowly, interspersed with some walking, and keep being able to run right to the end than to go tearing off and find you have to walk the last 15 miles (which can be deeply depressing).

my longest training runs nowadays are 2 to 2.5 hours - with some road and hill races thrown in. last year, before rotherham, i did an 18-mile hill race which took over 5 hours (aaaagh) - but at the end i knew i'd be okay for rotherham. knowing what hours out on your feet feels like is really important, so going for a long walk / run for the whole day is good training, i think.

i see you're lucky enough to have a place in the wye forest 50 - what a beautiful part of the country, should be lovely, with some lovely runners / walkers to keep you company too Smile.

sorry for the ramble, but hope that's in some way useful - there are some good endurance / ultra groups on facebook, which might be worth checking out? (oh, and i wear trail shoes, not studs or flats, for these races - need something comfortable with plenty of grip)

fannybanjo · 06/01/2012 22:16

rhet "enjoy" your weekend with Mum... A quick jog up the M40 and M6 and you're welcome to an errrr.... Ikea chocolate

rhetorician · 06/01/2012 22:20

last time I did that drive fanny it took about 7 hours!

DebiTheScot · 06/01/2012 22:30

runneretipple my schedule is from RW website, it was in the HM schedule section and is called something like the plus 1:50 plan.

My friend who I usually do parkrun with has suggested a run together on Sunday. We're going to do 4 miles along the canal. She's a bit slower than me (not much, only 3 mins over 5k) which is good as 1 shin was sore today.

fanny I agree, go to doc.

rhet hope your weekend is ok.

I've just f
