New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 13/10/2011 11:43

Welcome feetheart, that does sound like an exciting half! You can be Cherry's twin! Great to hear everyone being inspired for more races, and tris!

Moshi, did the GP advise either way, or happy to leave it to you? I can totally see you running those hills in SF and beating the cable cars!!!

paws, I agree about the yoga and breathing. I think it helps your breathing technique a lot but also so good for correcting posture and therefore opening your chest and improving lung capacity. Not sure I'd like to go to a LFDT class however Wink

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 13/10/2011 11:46

Hi feetheart, welcome and congrats on the Herts 10k! What time did you do - you may have seen earlier on I am not the quickest in the world. there was someone else who posted here recently called muffin (I think) who also did it.

Presuming you live in the same neck of the woods as me, where is the nearest Lidl then?

I thought about doing the Silverstone half too, DP has done it a few times. My thinking was at least it would be as flat as a pancake. Fun to run the F1 circuit though.

Pawsnclaws · 13/10/2011 11:56

feetheart I know what you mean about the pictures, while others look gazelle-like I always seem to have my feet firmly on the ground, eyes half shut, and mouth hanging open like a trap door. Attractive, I know ....

Come on Moshi we're waiting for the verdict here?!

OP posts:
futurity · 13/10/2011 12:27

Ibby and Cherry - just looked up the kids Blenheim activities...they would love that! Can't quite work out how we would get all our bikes over there though..we have a bike rack for the back of the car but driving for 2 hours with them on the back on the motorway is a bit daunting!

Hoping the Doctors went ok moshi

encyclogirl · 13/10/2011 12:31

Welcome feet Hope you get some good bargains at Lidl :)

Cherry my MIL wouldn't know one end of a kettle from the other. She will just sit around pontificating and criticising while I do EVERY EFFING THING! And breathe.

Paws I need to get back into yoga too. I love yoga but keep de-prioritising it. Just half an hour a day would be fab.

Fairy It's tough to fit it all in. I bet I manage to fit in a fair few runs when MIL is here however ;)

RunningAllDay · 13/10/2011 12:47

futurity we have a roof-mounted bike rack - 2 hours after taking over the driving in France in the summer, I drove all the bikes into a 'peage' sign. Blush DH was amazingly calm as he straightened bent bits of bike, rack and car on the side of the motorway.... Can't do that in Britain, though there are plenty of other obstacles!!

I finally worked out how you lot manage to do nice links; I have managed to find a halfway flattering pic of me at Eden at the weekend - they were kind enough to place cameras on the downhill sections so I even managed to smile (and keep my eyes open!). Its

here.

Went for a 6 miler this morning with my new Garmin; so excited I wanted to drop the kids off at school at 7am. Made me realise how absolutely no clue I have of my pace - when I feel like I am crawling uphill, I am doing 8:15 min/M, I feel like I am flying and it is more like 9:50 min/M. Can see already how its going to help! Loving the downloaded stats too - hours of post-running fun...

Hope all the invalids are feeling a bit better today - hope your GP appointment was positive moshi. Must be very gutting after so much training and anticipation.

MoshiMoshi · 13/10/2011 12:53

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. They must have worked as the Doc said that my lungs sound OK and I am fit to race on Sunday! Smile I did ask him if I would drop dead if I ran (re earlier stories) and he assured me it wouldn't happen.Grin So I just need to take it very easy between now and then. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. With my 4 kids and dog. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. And moving house to SF. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. And arranging the letting of our house. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. And clearing out the house we are renting in the New Forest. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. And stopping our housekeeper from writing on furniture/sewing kippers into curtains/throwing away essential household items that she cannot decipher etc. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

MoshiMoshi · 13/10/2011 12:54

Welcome to the madhouse, feet Grin.

Pawsnclaws · 13/10/2011 12:58

Great news Moshi!

Off to look at your picture now running!

OP posts:
RunningAllDay · 13/10/2011 13:00

Hooray Moshi!!

FairyBasslet · 13/10/2011 13:18

Great pic running - you look very relaxed and are clearly enjoying yourself - what's that in the background? Looks like piles of snow...

Also great news Moshi - with everything else you have going on I bet you'll need that marathon 'me time' to take your mind off stuff.

Wheelybug · 13/10/2011 13:21

Great news moshi (now please beat my bro - I'd love to tell him he was chicked when he's all smug about his time Grin).

hat - yes I know I'm pathetic about hills. I plan to address it at some point, maybe during my half marathon training or maybe when I actually enter a race that contains any hills which isn't very likely. BUt i've got over my 10+ miles mental block so here's hoping.

Having said that I only did 9 this morning. Acid indigestion, which I don't usually suffer with, all the way round and now feel terrible. Can't get warm, achey and generally bleurgh. Hoping its just PMT.... oh and hte fact that after all my plans for a good nights sleep dd2 woke up every 2-3 hours until about 5 when she came in with us and then kept kicking the covers off me. She's 2.7 FGS.... and that's years not months... or weeks...

Great pics running - you look like you're having fun !!

On the subject of pics, I don't know if I've said this before, but when I did my first ever 5K my friend and I vowed to get an official picture from every new distance we did. I only have 3 but they improve and by the last one I am almost smiling.

There's an awful lot of sad news re early deaths/illnesses on this thread is that just because we're all getting old or the fact that its what motivates us to run ? Certainly I took up running initially when I was having fertility issues between the dds and then DH was v. seriously ill whilst I was pregnant with dd2 - although not caused by being unfit, being initially healthy and fit probably helped him recover as much as he did. And then I always think of our other close friends who have had serious illnesses since then, and that spurs me on. It can only help can't it ?

Wheelybug · 13/10/2011 13:22

oh and welcome feetheart

Glad to hear of the Lidl bargains, I didn't make it today... althouhg ours usually has the odd pair of leggings left over. Fingers crossed.

fannybanjo · 13/10/2011 13:23

Quickie as madhouse here too - bleaching the whole fucking place to clear it of my shit... Blush

Moshi brilliant news! Just what you need - a marathon when you are already climbing Mount Everest in your private life! I am so glad that all that hard work and training won't be wasted. Cannot wait to see your times but don't feel pressured to do it

fannybanjo · 13/10/2011 13:31

On reading back last post, I have realised I have such a charming way with words. Grin Typical scouser.

feetheart · 13/10/2011 13:37

Thanks for the welcome.

Cherry - nearest Lidl is Luton town centre.
Got a long-sleeved 'performance top', a 'soft shell' jacket with 'bionic-finish' (Hmm) that actually fits my long arms and a pair of running gloves. Limited colours - black/red for top and cream, red and the ubiquitous bright pink for the jacket - got the red as I refuse to wear pink, clashes too much with my face when I run. Not sure the red option is much better but cream looked naff.

futurity · 13/10/2011 13:38

Great news Moshi ...your post made me laugh though...I think you may have too much on your plate Wink

Lovely smiling photo running ...my photos STILL aren't online! Grrrr!

Pawsnclaws · 13/10/2011 13:39

It's a really good pic running Envy

fanny sorry the world fell out of your bottom. Definitely time to go large at Maccy-D's ....

OP posts:
encyclogirl · 13/10/2011 13:39

fanny your posts are charming Grin They make me laff out loud. Glad your bug has departed. How odd about the 24 duration though.

Running your pic is fab, you look v. relaxed I must say.

Wheely the leggings are the best bit of today's Lidl stock I would say. Get yourself in there!

Moshi that's fantastic news! Can't wait for the race report. I'd nearly run one this weekend to escape my MIL.

Okay I will now stop bitching about her. Time to don my Captain Daughter in Law cape and man up.

MoshiMoshi · 13/10/2011 13:45

wheely - what will your bro be wearing? I can try spot him on the course perhaps? What time is he aiming for?

fanny - We have got The Housekeeper and it is clear that she is really a cleaner who likes to cook. The kids have also decided they can ignore her despite me coming down on them like a ton of bricks when I see them do so. So they do. The problem is, when i explain things, she looks a bit blank. I am sure I am not that bad at explaining things. I do have 4 children after all? I suspect she does not have much going on in there and it is just becoming very apparent now. I think I was a bit distracted when I hired her with mum being ill and was just grateful for any help at the time. I have met a lovely local girl who will help walk my dog once or twice a week for me which will be a nice distraction for my dog as she also has a dog so they can have a play (like a doggy playdate!)

Hurrah for shitgate eh? Even if the weightloss is fleeting it is amazing how a lighter reading on the scales can make you feel all virtuous. What is it with us women and our stupid wiring? Like it really matters?!! I seem to have lost a few pounds so am hoping I am a nice racing weight for Sunday. Once this wheezing has gone.

Wheelybug · 13/10/2011 13:51

Not sure what he'll be wearing - I'll try and find out. He did Brighton in 3.14 and had booked Abingdon in case he didn't do sub 3.15 but as he did he's got into London so he has been saying he's not going to push this oneesp as he has plantar whasit problems. But he's not like that ....so he's definitely going for sub 3.15... but not sure what he's secretly aiming for ...

encyclo -all my current running leggings are Lidl. I'm a classy chick but I love them. I have 2 capris and 1 long so need another pair of long ones (although do have issues with the long ones as I have really really short legs). I do find the sizing a bit odd though.

Glad you're bottoms better fanny ! Enjoy your big mac...

Thanks for the kind comments, :) - yes, I was enjoying it as I could see the end and it was a lovely steep downhill! The white stuff is the roof of the Biomes at Eden. Hope you get your pics soon - look forward to seeing them if they are shareable.

Just added another race in too.

fannybanjo · 13/10/2011 15:10

encyclo I wonder if your MIL beats mine.... Come on, let's compare and see who has the worst!

moshifarah Grin (you like the unofficial name change?) - it sounds like the "sandwich short of a picnic housekeeper" more trouble than it's worth - maybe going to SF a blessing as it gives you an excuse to let her go!? When is the big move happening? I can imagine you're going to be devastated going, you're an amazingly supportive wife, a lesser one would have refused, especially with four children.

No running this week for me. I think I've been running "hard" for a few months now and I need to do this HM in 3 weeks then cool down and get back to running for the love of it for a while. Hmm

Oh yeah, Big Mac, large fries and large full fat coke down the cakehole. Needed a dose of crap to replace the crap
I lost yesterday Wink I rarely eat junk however there are those times when it's needed as emergency fuel (conveniently forgets takeaways and Dominos consumed at weekends as they don't count).

Pawsnclaws · 13/10/2011 15:23

DH and I stopped at McDonalds on the way back from the marathon, about 100 miles from Chester. I creaked my way to a table and had the feeling someone was trying to catch my eye, looked up and saw a man in his finisher's top scoffing a Big Mac a few tables away. We exchanged slightly guilty nods and got on with the business of re-coating our arteries.

DH was forced to eat a Big Mac meal due to the incredible stress caused to his body by spectating at the event. He thinks it may take weeks to recover.

I have to say, there was a guy at the start line enjoying a fag before setting off. You northerners are hardcore Smile
