The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

I'm still up. Can't sleep. Have just watched Outnumbered and it has made me a lot. Murdered by Mummy. I need to Log Off And Go To Bed and stop clicking on interesting looking threads.

Shall we share purple nail varnish recommendations tomorrow instead of running tips? I'll have a rummage through mine for my favourite purples. I rather fancy some red too Jelli, my nails are Bear naked at the moment bar a coat of OPI Nail Envy - buy some when you go to NY Pistey, much cheaper than here and v.v.v. good for strong nails. Are you flying BA? There's an OPI nail place in the departure lounge at JFK, v. tempting.

I think I must go to bed as I fear I am beginning to ramble on ....

Sweet dreams.

PS My va va voom va va voomed a long time ago Pistey Grin.

BearfootRunner · 05/08/2011 01:13

x posts with sweaty :)

Night sweaty!

sweatybutslightlysmug · 05/08/2011 01:14

Night bear!

RatherBeParcelPiste · 05/08/2011 06:59

I couldn't sleep either! If I'd known you were here I'd have come for a chat about purple nail varnishes rather than running Grin

Yes we are flying BA Bear - out of London City weirdly then back to Heathrow, but in and out of JFK.... so I shall look for that stuff, and Sweaty.. I shall be so bloody prettified (initially there I wrote petrified ) with all that opportunity with waxing and nail stuff in NY NY. Fab...

Rincers, Edgar and Blondes are all amazing I knew B before her husband died, but have since met the the two as well. They are all strong and inspirational individuals coping with a lot of shit really. Amazing women though...

I expected Bear that you are tying your trainers as I write this - seeing as it is 6.55 which on my clock is close to 7 am.

BearfootRunner · 05/08/2011 13:00

Jelli I missed your post last night, entranced as I was with nail varnish colours Grin. Well done on the hills - !

That's a shame Pistey - we could've chatted nail varnish till the cows came home. Confession time: my trainers are sitting on the stairs looking neglected because I didn't go this morning. Shocking! Had loads to do today so decided to crack on with that but I might pop out later when it gets dark.

I used to fly in and out of LCY, it's dinky. The OPI place (JFK) was just as you go through security if I remember rightly, but you will be spoiled for choice in all the drug stores, and most certainly come back petrified prettified (too much Harry Potter!).

If you're looking for a good book for the flight (good girl flying BA, gold star for you) then I recommend this, which I've not long finished. Or if you fancy a touch of NY before you go, then this is very amusing.

Hope the blanket run went well this morning :)

I'm currently sporting Rimmel Pro in Orange Bliss ... only because I've got an orange and blue top on but I might change it, tis a bit luminous. Will be back with a selection of purples later Grin.

JelliBelli · 05/08/2011 13:51

Tut Tut! Bear..... But thanks for the link - will show DH as KB is his favourite - yes he is old!!

I did my 45min run this morning and I am still tired from my exertions at the weekend! However, I was back at home on my nice friendly railway and it was lovely and flat! I am awarding myself an exercise free day tomorrow in the hope for recovery in time for sundays 10k run Eeeek!!ShockShockShock. Its not a competitive one or anything just whats next on the plan.

Wish I was going to NY Envy instead of the Dales with grumpy teens!!!Wink

Orange sounds a little scarey to me - I thought I was wild with some funtime fuschia! I too am Bear naked at the moment though, but feeling inspired....

JelliBelli · 05/08/2011 13:56

By the way are any of us under 40? I confess I've lost track. I know i have had another birthday since I admitted to being 43....

ActuallyWasParcelPiste · 05/08/2011 14:41

Orange Shock Faints.....

All I know about London City airport is that is opposite the London Regatta Centre - DD is a rower and DH is always keen to watch her there he is obviously actually plane watching Some of the photos you see from there look like the rowers are going to get clobbered on the head by the plane wheels! It is a weird flight - you go from London to Shannon - clear US customs in Ireland then fly on then just get out and go once at JFK. Is that weird or is that just me??!! Probably just me!

Loving the Kate Bush - I cannot imagine running up a hill - I find kerbs a challenge. No cos that is true Grin

DH bought me a kindle for my bday and I was a bit [deadpan] because I didn't really want one ungrateful I was a bit surprised, but I am going to use it on my hols and will load those on, thank you for that!

Jelli - I'm certainly not under 540

ActuallyWasParcelPiste · 05/08/2011 14:42

o

clearly that meant 40
I am certainly under 540!!

LinzerTorte · 05/08/2011 18:56

Well, I'm back in the UK - complete with running gear, although I haven't been out yet. The DC and I had a lie-in until 11 am (we didn't arrive until gone 3 am) so no early morning run for me today - maybe tomorrow. My dad did find it quite amusing that I've brought my "jogging things" but he did say it was a "good idea".

Jelli I'm under 40, albeit only for another two months. My impending birthday was one of the reasons I decided to start C25k, as I realized I couldn't continue avoiding exercise for ever.

sweatybutslightlysmug · 05/08/2011 18:59

Hooray Linzer, glad we persuaded you!

You are such a youngster - I'm 44, DH is coming to terms with being 42 for the last 2 weeks.

ActuallyWasParcelPiste · 06/08/2011 07:19

46 just

ActuallyWasParcelPiste · 06/08/2011 07:31

this thread has fallen off my threads I'm on, doesn't seem to exist in I started nor on active!! The world has gone mad I swear......

The only way I found this was going into the old one and clicking in the link to this new one.

Have you all got together and decicided to exile me? Is it because I is too old?! do I smell bad-er-ly?!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/08/2011 08:13

Still not there... This is me now...

OP posts:
BearfootRunner · 06/08/2011 19:25

Well I'm only 21 so ner. Not really but suffice to say I am older yet not wiser than any of you yet Grin.

Pistey what's happened to your threads? Have not been on today due to RL. Mine are still there.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/08/2011 20:27

It was weird - well it still is, it doesn't seem to exist anymore, its not on threads I'm on, or started , and it doesn't show up in active either, like when I posted this morning, it should have be there straight after, but it wasn't. Confused

I thought it had been pulled, god knows why, or that you'd all pushed off onto facebook and left me with some tumble weed Sad

I've got hold of it now on 'I'm Watching' Bizarre. Bloody technology eh?!

I've got 'When God was a Rabbit' and the 'Overheard.....' book loaded on my very slinky Kindle, I am looking forward to reading them on my hols Smile

Am running tomorrow, please some one kick me out, if I look like I'm wavering.....

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 06/08/2011 20:31

Are your threads back to normal now, Piste? I was wondering whether it could be to do with your name change as your posts weren't highlighted afterwards, but if it's still not working now that you've changed back, maybe not.

Didn't manage to get out today - I set my alarm but just couldn't get out of bed and by the time I could, it was time for my parents' daily constitutional so I couldn't leave the DC. No such excuses tomorrow though, as Sundays are the only day they can't go for their walk along the seafront (no buses on a Sunday to take them down into town).

Have just synced my Nike app and was slightly surprised to discover that I only run once a week on average (but have done 4 runs since 26 July, so am Confused), so I have a new goal: 8 runs over the next 4 weeks. I won't post it on Facebook as I'm probably boring everyone enough already with my running updates; hopefully posting it on here will be enough motivation. Grin

Oh, and I can finally join in with the purple nail polish talk as I got some free in Marie Claire today. Grin (I do have some at home, but only ever dare to wear it on my toenails.)

BearfootRunner · 06/08/2011 22:37

Oooh Pistey, a slinky Kindle. I keep thinking I want one. Do I want one? I keep thinking I want need one of these too for the cold dark winter mornings. Have dropped heavy hints ChezBear but no action taken as yet ..... I might have to resort to bribery ... a la Jerry Hall, the second one down. Although that is a bit drastic I feel.

Is it working yet, your ThreadsI'mOn etc.? Mine seems to be ok touch wood my head.

Linzer and Pistey - I DEMAND and INSIST you go out in the morning. I will be waiting here to hear your progress and see what sort of wildlife you see on your runs as there is no chance of me going, no sirree I am having a lie in.

BearfootRunner · 06/08/2011 23:32

Nail varnish? Did someone say free NAIL VARNISH? Take me to it!

OK. Purple nail varnish obsession collection:

Boots No7 Stay Perfect - Vivid Violet (think they have re-named it now, but tis very purplicious)
Sally Hansen Hi-Definition Nail Colour - Cyber (bought in NY)
OPI - Lincoln Park At Midnight
Urban Decay - Hashbury
StarGazer - 165 - (bought in New Look)
GOSH - Gasoline
OPI - Diva of Geneva
Bourjois So Laque - Prune Vinyle
Attitude - Raspberry Can-Can (but it is a very shiny purply pink, from Ebay)
Me Me Me - Generous (a lilacy purple, as seen on Lydia from TOWIE) Blush
Barry M - Berry Ice Cream
OPI - Black Cherry Chutney

Am pretty sure there's more lurking about, in fact there's another one in this box but I can't make out the name on it. I need to start buying different colours don't I? Grin Actually there are different colours in there, but purple is the one I seem to buy most of.

For your delectation have a look here. Go to 'all nail colours' and you can see them ALL and have a play and add them to your NY list Pistey. And Linzer, get the purple on your fingernails too :)

they are not all MINE honest. some belong to teenage daughters and may have seen better days and there may be more lurking in their bedrooms.

I'm off to bed to dream of being locked in an OPI factory all night Grin. Hope you both have a lovely run in the morning, night night.

LinzerTorte · 07/08/2011 07:36

Yes, free Ciaté (never heard of it) nail polish in this month's Marie Claire - purple or a pale pinky cream, almost white looking colour (have just googled and apparently it's "nude"). Very impressed by your list Bear, even if you do have teenage DDs. (DD2 also has purple nail polish on her toes; she's normally only allowed pale pink but DH, who packed my nail polish when we went on holiday Hmm, had only packed purple and bright red. Hmm Hmm)

Oh, and the bribery may be a little drastic, but hey, if it works... Wink Grin

Well, I've done it - I've been out and did 5k in 31.5 minutes. Not my best time, but it's far hillier here than I'm used to. Couldn't believe how quiet it was (thank goodness) - I saw a grand total of one bus, one car and one dog walker - although what I was expecting at 6.30 on a Sunday morning, I'm not sure.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/08/2011 08:13

O Wow Linzer - amazing running! Really impressive on two fronts - to be up and running so early on a Sunday, and also to be so fast Envy Well done you!

Come on Bear - UP YOU GET, LET'S GO RUNNING!!

Actually am going this evening, so glare at me later if I seem to be loitering Grin

Lovely purples..... and how was the factory in your dream?? I'm loving your collection - this one is gorgeous...I do though tend to wear it only on my toes because my fingernails really aren't good enough, but what I need to get are those sticky on nails, but I haven't a clue really Sad Now I'm havering as the The Proclaimers would say...

My threads seem to be back to normal today, so have no idea, I also thought it was because of my name changes, but that didn't seem to make any difference. T'was weird though...

I don't know about my Kindle tbh, DH gave it to me for my birthday mostly because he loves his one, he travels such a lot and I can see that it is good for him. I didn't think I wanted one, and I'm not sure, I do really like mooching for books, and I will have to mooch, then go home and buy on the kindle. I shall let you know how I get on. BUT I think you should definitely plan for the winter or being a bear you will just go into hibernation, that Reebok thing is ideal except it doesn't come in purple
Maybe Jerry Hall is a bit drastic, I mean cooking ? Really?!

Jelli - is today the 10K you are doing - Pistey faints..
Hope you managed ok, it will be really interesting to hear how you got on! I know I could run 5 now after a fashion

Does anyone else think Sweaty may have been eaten by a coyote?!

Pistey goes off to find her va va voom....

Well done Linzer! IMPRESSIVE time (sorry for caps). And wow at being out early on a Sunday. Double impressed.

I have been on my 5.5k run. Starts at the church, past the kids' school, round the park and home again. Rather too many hot bods out today and not enough sweaty ageing mothers to keep me company. Walked the 2 hills, but ran the rest.

Saw a woman carrying water in one hand and ipod plus keys in the other - thought that she needed a BGB to stash it all in which made me smile.

I promised myself that

sybilfaulty · 07/08/2011 09:32

Sorry, I promised myself that I would do a 10k this year. It's already August and I am nowhere near. I think I am going to try to find one in October - maybe Oct half term? - and then train towards it. First step is to run the whole of the 5.5k park circuit including the hills. Then I'll find a training plan.

Happy running everyone.

BearfootRunner · 07/08/2011 09:54

GO LINZER! GO LINZER! That is absolutely blooming amazing and very fast indeed, well done you! You must surely be in the PRSP Zone. And very little wildlife on your route as well is a bonus ie. no white van men. Will check out the Marie Claire and buy it and have a lookie.

at the pics, I don't know where you find them Pistey, they are always SO appropriate - to be fair, I am more like the second of the two this morning Grin. Make sure you leave room for OPI in your case. You could stuff your running shoes with them, then they would have a dual use and you would feel very smug.

Yes I like mooching for books too, and like the covers and the feel of them, and the look of piles by my bed so don't know how I would find the Kindle but am willing to give it a go, if the bribery works. Cooking indeed? Drastic measures.

Sybil well done for getting out there this morning 5.5k is great, you must be in PRSP too and so you should be. Should I go onto Dragon's Den with my BGB do you think?

Good luck Jelli wherever you are, hope your 10k goes great and yoo hoo sweaty wherever you are!

Tomorrow is the start of sense and sensibility ChezBear, healthy eating and running three times a week, no excuses, no more havering about nail varnish and frivolities, no more Orlando Murrin Chocolate Brownies. A line has been drawn. With highlighter pink pen. I'm going to knuckle down - you lot are putting me to shame Blush.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/08/2011 10:27

Well, I have been lurking rather than posting for a couple of weeks as I have been away, and unlike Linzer have not been running, unfortunately I am still of the mindset that holidays are about rest and having a break from the day to day stuff which includes exercise, although it's ok once I get out it still feels like a necessary evil rather than an enjoyable hobby, a bit like ironing! It's two weeks till I go away again so I think 4 runs in the next two weeks is a good target for me too.

Anyway, just to say that I LOVE my Rimmel Urban Purple toes at the moment, did them about two weeks ago and they are still looking super glossy. I do bright toenails and bare fingernails in summer, then bright fingers and bare toes in winter, if I wear it all year round on either set they get dry and flaky.

I also LOVE my Kindle, had it for 6 months, it's much easier to hold in bed than a book, and even better it syncs with it's app on my iphone so I can read a few pages when I'm out and about and pick up again when I get home without having to remember to take it with me.
