The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

Well done everyone, sounds like you are all making good progress!

Bssh, pack some warm clothes for your long weekend! The temperature here has dropped noticeably in the last few days.

Can I be nosey and ask where you are staying? Some friends are coming to visit us next year but want to stay in an hotel - there are 3 of them so we can't fit them all in without putting 2 of them in DSs' bunk beds, an offer which they turned down (can't imagine why!).

KristinaM · 05/10/2011 19:06

Run from home so need to take anythimg except my phone ( with the music). We live in the country so dont need to take a key. No shops to buy anythig so no need for money

Im like the queen really........

If it hadnt been raining today and v windy i coudl have doen W5r1. I am big girls blouse Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/10/2011 19:11

Same here Kristina, supposed to be W5R1 today but DH isn't home from work yet and I was at work till lunchtime and with DCs after school so tricky. I have tried running at 2.30 before picking the DCs up before now it's OK so long as I have had an early light lunch, but went out with friends for a long and substantial lunch today so no can do. Looking at the weather I am quite glad!

BsshBossh · 05/10/2011 19:47

shredded we are staying where we always stay when we visit NYC (we go every year) - at the Hotel on Rivington on the LES. Love it there. Very cool. I've seen Philip Glass and Lou Reed in the restaurant/bar!

So is the weather cardigan/jumper/raincoat weather?

babycham42 · 05/10/2011 23:11

Thanks all for your suggestions on how to carry my bits and bobs!

Did W3R2 today.Ended up doing the last 3 mins on a steady uphill.Luckily just finished before asthma kicked in...bit of a panicky moment when I realised I hadn"t put inhaler in bits and bobs.It was OK though and I managed to get by!

Well done bafana on start of wk4!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 05/10/2011 23:42

Bssh, yup, I've got my raincoat out this week for the first time since the Easter hols. it's colder than I remember it being this time last year.

LinzerTorte · 06/10/2011 08:14

Last day of the nice weather here, apparently - it's supposed to be 15° cooler and rainy here tomorrow - so I thought I'd better make the most of it and get out. Made a determined effort not to talk to anyone (just waved to a friend driving by and spluttered said good morning to the postman), and it paid off as I have a new PB (broke a new minute barrier too). Grin Well, my iPod told me I'd only run 4.9 km but I'm sure it was 5 km as I run exactly the same route every day so I decided to ignore it and calibrated my run to 5 km. Grin

Well done on your run, babycham. Smile

Bssh Envy of your trip to New York, even if it is raincoat weather.

Kristina I could probably get away without taking my key if it weren't for the fact that our front door automatically locks behind me. The number of times I've left the door open when I've gone out or the car unlocked overnight doesn't bear thinking about. I managed to surpass myself recently when I dropped off a friend of DS's though; I got back to the car to find the driver's door wide open and people having to walk round it on the pavement!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 06/10/2011 12:22

Yay Linzer, well done on your new PB (not on leaving the car open Grin).

I'm on day 29 of the shred, so am going back to running next week - will alternate run and shred. I did 3 miles in 35 mins on Friday, but that was after 20 miles on a bike, so am hoping to get below that next week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/10/2011 14:46

Oooof, just tried to run immediately after shredding - Fail! My legs were like jelly, so I stopped after 5 mins and went home, didn't want to do the whole run badly so I will try and go out again later.

LinzerTorte · 06/10/2011 21:18

Thanks, shredded. Smile My knee is playing up a bit atm - not really painful, but there's definitely something not quite right - which is stopping me from feeling too smug! It seems to have got worse over the last week or two, so I'm wondering whether the Shred is too high-impact for my knees - although it seemed to get better once I started wearing trainers. Think I'll have a complete rest tomorrow and over the weekend, and see how it is on Monday.

WhoKnows I just can't imagine running after shredding; can't imagine doing much other than collapsing, in fact. Hope you managed your run later, anyway.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/10/2011 21:22

I didn't Linzer, it was blowing a freezing gale this afternoon and I was frozen to the marrow after sitting outside watching the DCs play tennis for 90 mins, plus various other things (see my Fledglings post). Will try tomorrow.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 07/10/2011 04:44

Awww Linzer, I hope it gets better soon with a rest. I found the shred quite high impact (I have just ordered a Jillian yoga DVD to try for a change from the leaping around)

WhoKnows - hats off to you for even trying a post-shred run!!!

I am on the 7am train tomorrow morning, which means arising at 5.30 (less than 6 hours from now - had better to go bed). So I won't be running or shredding until the weekend.

Happy running everyone.

LinzerTorte · 07/10/2011 05:27

It was a 5.30 am start for me as well today, as I had to drive DH to the station at 6 am. It's pouring with rain so I'm quite glad this is a non-running day. Hope you manage your early start OK too, shredded.

Can still feel it in my knee when I walk, so I think I'll give the running (and shredding) a miss until it's better. If the weather continues like this, though, I'll be glad of an excuse!

sybilfaulty · 07/10/2011 06:58

Hello ladies!

Gla to see so many people have been running and / or shredding. I am afraid the builders are still here so I am off the hook for a bit, but I reckon they will finish next week and then I will NO excuse not to shred. How scary!

I am still running, on week 4 now of running fast and actually enjoying it, though am a bit too hungover to go out this morning sadly.

Nice to see some new faces here. Welcome everyone.

I tuck all my keys etc into my Bear Grylls Bra (TM) but on't carry much - no water or anything. I don't think I go fast enough to merit water. My running friends have told me that they have to push themselves to go fast so I am trying to do likewise, I initially thought they were just faster than me but now it appears that there is effort in it. I am still slowy mc slow on my "fast" running bits but much faster than I was.

Keep on running everyone

PS All my finger nails have broken, so only clear on them, but purple on my toes. Am trying to keep them a bit more groomed to keep up with the ladies on the thread but they are a bit knackered and blistery really.

bafanatheSober · 07/10/2011 10:17

Morning All

Went out again this morning. Managed W4R2, so feeling well chuffed with myself, although my knees are a little achey.

whoknows I can't believe that you would even attempt a run after shredding! That is hardcore, and totally a little insane Grin.

shredded I hate early morning trains, I feel I never sleep properly for fear of sleeping in.

I don't carry anything, apart from my ipod on my arm, I leave the house unlocked, and the kids are inside still in bed, (they are 13 and 10 so it's ok). Water is not needed yet - don't go fast enough.

Right - off to do some work.
Have a great weekend everyone

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/10/2011 14:19

No, I'm not sure what got into me yesterday .

Anyway, have been for a run today, 5k with a friend, a long steady downhill followed by a long steady uphill which necessitated a few walking intervals. Friend is considerably fitter and thinner than me, hope she didn't find it too slow. It didn't actually feel like 5k though, which is good, nice to get out on a totally different route (she lives about 5 miles from me and we ran from her house).

babycham42 · 07/10/2011 16:31

BRING...IT...ON.

Finished Wk3 .

It"s incredible the way this plan works isn"t it? Something that seems un - do-able at the start of the week is so much easier on the 3rd session. It"s genius!!

I have shell pink nailvarnish on fingers and none on toes as I have now declared that it"s boots weather.

To think everyone, even if you"re a new starter today,we"ll all have completed the programme by Christmas!

WhoKnows Superwoman! I'm aghast at the shredding then running revelations!

As you all know by now, I am a lazy sloth whose £80 New Balance trainers have a layer of dust as thick as a Crunchie on them. So I'm not even going to pretend that I've been out when clearly looking in the mirror I have not.

But am I still allowed to come in and blether on?

sybil - pesky builders not letting you shred. Grin Bet it will be gorgeoise when it is all finished though and worth it. Nice to see you again and to hear that you are still wearing your BearGryllsBra. Wink

shredded, I got your email thanks, glad it got there safely. Hope you managed to keep the Dairy Milk from MrShredded's clutches. Don't expect he was too bothered with the nail varnish though. Grin

Envy at Bssh's trip. Grrr. But have a great time said through gritted teeth. No really, hope it's fab!

Linzer hope your knee is a bit better today. It wouldn't do if you couldn't bend down to get Vivid Violet on yout tootsies now would it?!

Well done to all of you who are continuing to run and/or shred. I feel like a big fat fake next to you lot.

to Pistey who is hidden under a pile of bunting somewhere ...

NellVarnish · 07/10/2011 16:36

Pistey Sad Sad Sad

Will email you.

Are you ok? Can I help with this at all (obviously I'll rustle something up too)?
