I got abit fitter a while back (had a trainer), he moved away and I kept it up and jumped in at about week 4 or 5, but that was months ago now Blush I really need to get fit for a job and lose at least 1 stone (ideally about 4!) Anyone want to start with me? Or are all the newbies jumping straight onto the massive thread? :)

Name Change Alert

Just to let me tie a few things together (this and My Fitness Pal) - CuddlySmurf is now the new and improved FairyBlueBell.

vanimal · 17/08/2011 13:51

CuddlySmurf/FairyBlueBell - 3k in 25min!!

I can't imagine ever doing that, how fit were you before starting? Are you really only on W6?

FairyBlueBell · 17/08/2011 16:09

lol vanimal I was seriously unfit 83Kg of wobbly bits who could walk for miles at a snails pace and is SO NOT built to jog. I'm a size 16 who hoiks on a 36gg bra every day in life. A good sports bra is my best friend at the moment! I'm now 79.5Kg so a bit of a loss has happened!

I am really only on W6 where I have been stuck for 3 weeks as I just cant seem to get past my current personal best (pb) of 22 mins and 2.79K DH signed me up for a 10K in early October and if I dont finish it it I will be mad at myself.

Stick with the programme and you will get there too - you might be a bit like me - kicking and screaming her way thru it via various hurdles - but you will get there.

vanimal · 17/08/2011 19:07

Well it's only day 1 for me, but I am pleased I got this far. For someone who claims to be unfit it sounds like you have done really well.

I am about a stone overwieght, but really quite flabby, and not at all fit.

I did the run at lunchtime, and am really tired now, I can feel it in my legs. But it's psychologically great to know I am finally doing something about my fitness. I hope this lasts :-)

10K run in October sounds great, I bet you'll do it too! I am hoping to be close to making 5K by then, so hopefully we can keep each other going.

duende · 17/08/2011 21:42

Foxy, hello again. The jump to 20 minutes seems impossible but I found - to my surprise- it was more a psychological barrier than a physical one, iyswim.

Cuddly/fairy, I'm so impressed with your 10k race, I would love to be able to do it by spring next year :)

"Vanimal*, well done for starting and stay on the thread! I'm not overweight but 2 years after having DS and a year after going back to my office job i felt really unfit and needed exercise. I honestly never thought I could run. I started C25k in early June, I can now run 5k!

I've run 5k tonight, 37 minutes. I am still finding really difficult and feel like I couldn't possibly run any faster or longer.

UmBongo · 17/08/2011 21:42

Well done Vanimal I have just done week 4 r3 take two with improved ankle! Next run is wk5 run one, foxy I have done the 20 minuter at the end of week 5, I was knackered and had an incredibly sore ankle, but I did do it! Just do as you are told and weirdly it is possible (Someone remind me of that in a few days time when I am putting off going out!)

FairyBlueBell · 17/08/2011 22:07

Really well put duende. The barrier is psychological ...... FBB goes off to ponder Wink

FairyBlueBell · 18/08/2011 20:08

Woooo hooooo. I did 3k in 25 mins GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin. No puff left to speak with but I did it (with a 2min fast walk in the middle).

vanimal · 18/08/2011 20:33

Woooohooo! That's fantastic! Well done!

vanimal · 19/08/2011 12:15

I did my second run today - woke up earlier than usual (6am), and ran in the car park at my local park, cos the park gates were still shut!

I was good though, tiring, but just about manageable, and it felt great to go first thing in the morning and have it over and done with before DH and DDs were even awake. In fact it's only 12.15pm now, and I feel like the run was yesterday.

idealism · 19/08/2011 21:58

nearly finished week 1 of C25K - very proud of myself! Never done any kind of training before, so at the age of 36 thought it about time. Must keep goin; great to see many others managing it!

vanimal · 19/08/2011 22:30

Well done idealism, I am also 36 and on week 1. By November we'll be doing 5k! Eeeek!

febes · 20/08/2011 09:11

I'm starting tomorrow. I'm off to read the thread so I can get to know you all.

febes · 20/08/2011 09:34

Ok I skimmed and you have all done so well. I've been amped to start running for a while now so can't wait to get started. My DH went and bought me an ipod shuffle today and I have loaded it up with the NHS podcast (dire music but there you go).
Hi Fairybluebell we are MFP friends.
I have lost 4st and 4lbs since Christmas and I want to lost another 2 and a bit st. I do Jillian Michaels dvds 4/5 times a week at the moment. I started with shred and now do BFBM or NMTZs. I am 15st at the moment and 5'11". My goal is to get to 12st something. I started in size 22 and am now wearing size 16. I would like to be a comfortable 14 or even a 12 I think anything smaller would look weird on me as I'm pretty large!!
I am following the Idiot Proof Diet (low carb) so eat pretty healthy- no sugar, no processed foods etc. My running goal is to run the city to surf next year (12kms). Hopefully it will be on as it was cancelled this year due to the earthquake (I live in Christchurch, NZ).
I let you know how I get on after my first run!!

idealism · 20/08/2011 12:18

sounds like you are doing reall y well febes. Will be keeping track on you vanimal - go girl! Just done 3rd one of wk 3, so monday can begin week 2. Feeling really motivated by it!

duende · 20/08/2011 22:33

hello febes, idealism and vanimal :) great to see some new faces :)
I have done my longest run ever tonight, 7K! I couldn't believe I managed to run that far. was very slow but I did't care. Shame that I didn't enjoy the first 4k, it takes a lot of self discipline for me to keep going.
Now the runner's high has pretty much worn off, I am ready for bed!

febes · 21/08/2011 02:56

I survived my first run/walk. I felt good and it was over quickly which must be a good sign. The only trouble I had was working my ipod!!! I need to get a grip on my technology!! Looking forward to Tuesday when I'll do my second run.
Awesome work on the 7km!!

Jezabelle · 21/08/2011 20:54

Wow febes, well done on your achievments so far this year! I am not doing the podcast due to technology issues but have been running and can now run a whole mile! Ok, this may sound a bit rubbish to some, but I am actually really pleased with myself! I couldn't even run half a mile when I started out about 8 weeks back. I had a slow start and didn't do anything for a few weeks with holidays getting in the way, but I actually feel like I've caught the bug now!

I will do my mile run again tomorrow and then step it up to 1.5 mile. My aim is to do the Dublin Marathon next October Ok, ok. . . I know I'm only on a mile just now but have always wanted to run a marathon and want to acheive this before I'm 40. My brother has run 20 marathons so puts me to shame! He says he'll join me in the Dublin marathon which I'd love to do with him.

I'm thinking a 10k at the end of this year followed by a half marathon in the spring. Wish me luck!

febes · 21/08/2011 21:17

Awesome goals Jez I'm sure you'll achieve them. My Dad was suggesting last night that we do a half marathon next February. He'll walk and I'll walk/run. Its good to have a goal to work towards.

febes · 22/08/2011 02:50

So my muscles are a little sore today but normal for when you start new exercise. I did my NO More Trouble Zones- Jillian Michaels dvd this morning which is circuits with weights 40mins. Do you guys do other exercise on your days off from running?
I lost another lb too!!

vanimal · 22/08/2011 14:43

Hiya, I did my W1R3 today, muscles are still sore from last week's two runs!

I don't know how you manage to exercise on non-running days too, I don't do anything Blush

UmBongo · 22/08/2011 19:32

Hi All, just popping in to say I am going for a walk this evening, I finally got a BFP on Saturday so am stopping with the running for a bit. If it all goes well, I will be back in May with more baby weight to shift, or if it all goes wrong I will be back sooner. Good luck with all the running you are all doing brilliantly!

BsshBossh · 22/08/2011 19:57

Hello, I'm on the other Couch25k thread but there are a lot more newbies here so I am joining you all too Grin. I am a complete running novice and do my W1R2 tomorrow (keeping fingers crossed the rain won't be too heavy). I was aching all over when I did my first run on Saturday but seem to be fine today. I am using the NHS podcast which I'm loving.

FairyBlueBell · 22/08/2011 20:04

Wow - great news from everyone Smile

Well done Jezabelle on the whole mile!

I've been resting my dodgy knee and drinking wine at the weekend and plan to be out tomorrow morning for another 3K. Thinking I'll gradually add 0.25km to each run over the next few weeks till I get to 5K, as the 5K in 30 mins isnt really acheivable for me at the moment (given that I'm not exactly built for speed).

Vanimal you gave me a real laugh at the thought of you jogging round the car park. I prefer early morning runs too as it saves loads of "organising" to get out later in the day.

Febes its early days but I have got a DVD that I'd like to use on my in-between days. If DS co-operates and gets to be in the next half hour I'm gonna take the wrapping off it Wink

Hope W2R1 went well idealism???

Off topic, but I start training for my dream job in a few weeks - I've always wanted to be a self employed driving instructor/coach, and all my "ducks are in a row" for me to do the course! DH has found me a small practice car to play with (as our family car isn't suitable) and I drove it for the first time on Saturday. Roll on this time next year . . . .

BsshBossh · 23/08/2011 13:14

W1R2 completed in the pouring rain. Felt exhilarating with the rain in my ace. Feel really energised now and can't wait for my next run on Thursday.
