I got abit fitter a while back (had a trainer), he moved away and I kept it up and jumped in at about week 4 or 5, but that was months ago now Blush I really need to get fit for a job and lose at least 1 stone (ideally about 4!) Anyone want to start with me? Or are all the newbies jumping straight onto the massive thread? :)

I didn't get out this morning, woke up with a sore throat. Think my body is telling me something.

newportstateofmind · 11/06/2011 23:14

Just done the first run of week 4 tonight, and really pleased that I managed a 5 minute run without dying!

Hope you're feeling better Marion.

stickybean · 13/06/2011 12:55

I'll jump in if I may Smile I started c25k on Saturday and just did day 2 this morning at 6am. Got a little bit of weight to lose but mainly want to get my body moving and get fit. Had 2 babies in 18 months and it shows!

cuddlysmurf · 13/06/2011 17:05

Ladies, may I join you? Cuddlysmurf is a bit too cuddly and would like to share the C25K experience with the hope of shifting seveal kilos of excess baggage.

Week 1, Day 1 tomorrow and DH has signed me up for a 10K in early October to "motivate" me ;)

Have an iphone app to help me along, and got to Week 4 earlier this year (before life got in the way).

Looking forward to getting back to week 3 and beyond . . . .

wildstrawberryplace · 13/06/2011 18:13

I'm still in, haven't started yet, but have exam on weds so really been too busy cramming revising, after that, I'm free as a bird for a bit and can get into it.

duende · 13/06/2011 22:25

I went for a run this morning. I did week 3 day 1. I have to say, half way through the second 3 minute run I felt like I was going to die. My calves really hurt and I had no energy left. I found it quite difficult, but I finished!

My knees are hurting a little bit now. I have good running shoes and had my gait analysed at sweatshoop so hopefully no problem there. Maybe it's simply my body getting used to the exercise?

I have to say, when my alarm went off at 6.15 this morning, I thought to myself there was no way I was going to be able to force myself to do this in the midst of winter...

cuddlysmurf · 14/06/2011 09:35

Well done to everyone who has been out in the last couple of days.

Did W1 D1 this morning and feel a bit achey in my thighs, better stretches needed methinks Wink

Felt a bit of a prat with my hat on but pre-shower hair is never seen in public.

cuddlysmurf · 16/06/2011 18:10

It's all gone a bit quiet......

Grin as I finished W1D2 today - yippee!

thestringcheeseincident · 16/06/2011 18:20

I'll jump in here. I've got one run left from week 3. ( tomorrow pm at this stage) Am loving it. Not sure how easy the jump up to 5 mins will be, I'm fairly knacked after 3 mins. the nhs podcast is good, but the music is bloody dire.

duende · 16/06/2011 20:24

I also have one run left from week 3 and planning on doing it tomorrow before work. I find the second 3 minute run very hard.
I can't imagine running for 5 mins!
I stopped using the NHS podcasts because of the music, I'm using an iphone app now.

cuddlysmurf · 18/06/2011 13:44

App girl here too .... and intend to put on as audio book as I've not yet made a decent playlist Wink.

Day 3 of week 1 tomorrow as DH working today ......

newportstateofmind · 18/06/2011 23:43

Did W5 D2 yesterday, and going to attempt D3 tomorrow, but a bit daunted about the jump from 8 mins to 20 mins! Having got a bit further with the podcasts I have to agree about the music! But I definitely find that they help me run better. I want to finish the program using them then I'll make my own playlists.

Just a quick question....how fast do you run? It says on the podcasts to stick to a gentle jog, but quite honestly I think my jog is so gentle it's prob taking the piss!!

cuddlysmurf · 19/06/2011 09:15

Wow Newport!

A wise sage (my DH) said to me that so long as you're not walking, you're jogging!

Off out for the last jog of W1 in a bit and hoping that the rain goes off ...

newportstateofmind · 19/06/2011 20:48

I like that definition of jogging Smurf! Your DH is clearly very wise indeed!!

How did you get on this morning? It is amazing how quickly you can build up stamina.....looking back to W1 I was so out of breath after each 1 minute jog. I did 20 mins today and it was hard but manageable.

cuddlysmurf · 20/06/2011 09:06

Got on great yesterday! Less out of breath than I've been and not sore afterwards. Roll on tomorrow. Good to hear that the programme builds you up to the (magic milestone of) 20 min and that you're still here after it Wink

Here's hoping I can do my first w2 jog without the usual accompanying drizzle .... The weather app may just be lulling me into a false sense of security!!

cuddlysmurf · 20/06/2011 09:08

Forgot to say that I found a podcast called Podruner which I'm gonna try tomorrow too. 130bpm music all the way.

wildstrawberryplace · 20/06/2011 17:25

I use podrunner - it's really good. Also, there is a next stage if you're up for doing your first 10k Wink

wildstrawberryplace · 20/06/2011 17:30

Podrunner C25K - also available as a podcast on iTunes - on iTunes makes sure you choose Podrunner Intervals rather than straight Podrunner as you want the little signals for when to run and when to walk.

stickybean · 21/06/2011 00:31

Hi all, just checking in! Finished week one and managed to lose 3lbs as well so that was a bonus. Did week 2 day 1 last night and enjoyed it. Cannot imagine running for 20 mins though.

newportstateofmind · 21/06/2011 21:47

No I couldn't either stickbean but you do get there! I find that 5-10 mins is the hardest part, then I seem to settle into a bit of a rhythm and it gets easier.

cuddlysmurf · 22/06/2011 10:33

Wet Smurf here - got soaked to the skin this morning but finished W2D1, accompanied by my reluctant dog who hates the rain. DH took DS to nursery to let me get out before work as we all had an unintentional long lie this morning. . . .

Good for you stickbean - fitter and lighter

The podrunner music worked really well alongside the Get Running app that I've been using (which neatly stops the music for the voice prompts). Feel like I worked harder on the walking intervals than I did last week.

Thanks newport for reassuring me that it gets easier!

Strawberry thanks for the hint to look at podrunner when I get past C25K (mid-August) according to my master plan :o

TheProvincialLady · 22/06/2011 10:44

I did that run last night Cuddly, though in bright sunshine. I'm running with a male friend who is equally unfit, but he missed the last two runs so I felt I had the edge with those challenging 90 second runsGrin

The NHS music is so bad it's almost good, but when I did CP25K last year....well, started it....I was timing myself and it was much harder to relax into it, so I'm grateful anyway.

What's the job you're going for Lemonade?

sweetheart · 22/06/2011 15:09

Is it too late to join in?

I had a knee operation 3 months ago and need to start running again. I was up to 5k before my injury in December and my physio has said today that I should build up to 5k over the next 6 weeks.

duende · 22/06/2011 21:38

Hi everyone. I did W4D2 today. I am finding it quite hard at the moment. My breathing is not too bad but my calves feel very heavy.

I also seem to suffer with water retention since I started running. Does anyone else have this problem? My legs feel quite swollen and heavy a lot of the time. And my knees are killing me...

tinker316 · 23/06/2011 12:21
