I got abit fitter a while back (had a trainer), he moved away and I kept it up and jumped in at about week 4 or 5, but that was months ago now Blush I really need to get fit for a job and lose at least 1 stone (ideally about 4!) Anyone want to start with me? Or are all the newbies jumping straight onto the massive thread? :)

Well done BsshBossh! Only serious runners get out there in the rain. Smile

FairyBB, sounds like your improving lots of areas in your life ATM. Should give you a real sense of self esteem which, hopefully will motivate you to keep up the running.

I am running a route which is about 1.3 miles now. Am currently running about 5 days a weeks, usually in the morning before DH goes to work. I am entering a local 10k on 27th November. Reckon this gives me a chance to build up fairly gradually.

vanimal · 23/08/2011 16:16

BsshBosh well done, I would have happily used the rain as an excuse not to run, you are one motivated lady!

Jezabelle I think that's a great point about self esteem, I am taking up running because I don't want to diet anymore, but am finding myself eating less junk and wanting to be more healthy even though I have only been doing this for a week.

Febes well done on your weight loss, that is amazing.

I am doing W2R1 tomorrow, I feel tired just thinking about it. But I'll do early again, so by 7.30am the pain will be over :-)

vanimal · 23/08/2011 16:22

By the way, has anyone seen this - oragnised weekly 5K runs in parks all over England. My park does one - yay!

I did my 2nd run of week 1 last night and it was brilliant! The sun was setting. I felt fantastic and I can't wait for my next run! I'm not as stiff today as I was after the first run. I'm having a day off today as I have done pretty intensive exercise everyday for a week or so and my lycras are in the wash!!

vanimal · 24/08/2011 11:51

Did W2R1 this morning.

Found it hard, but I was tired and had a rumbling tummy when I started, should have eated something small before I ran. Another run completed though.

BsshBossh · 25/08/2011 21:57

W1R3 completed. My lungs and body kept up fie but the last couple of 1 minute runs were hard on my knees. So am trying to do daily leg/knee strengthening exercises in the hope that my knees don't let my running ambition down. Anyone else concerned about their knees?

W2 commences this Saturday. Am very excited about it!

idealism · 25/08/2011 22:26

nearly finished week 2 - hurrah; never thought i could run for more than 30 seconds, so rather chuffed. And I haven't felt like i'm going to piss myself either (2 kids has played havoc with the bladder!) which is an added bonus! I'm even enjoying it......Grin

febes · 26/08/2011 00:31

I'm off for run 3 week 1 this evening (in NZ so different time zone to you guys) I'll let you know how I get on.

BsshBossh · 27/08/2011 10:02

W2R1 complete. It was hard extending the runs from 60 to 90 seconds but I did them all. Very happy. Though can't see how I'm meant to be running 20+ mins non stop in 8 weeks time!

idealism · 27/08/2011 10:06

me neither, bssh but, we will!

OTheHugeRaveningWolef · 27/08/2011 10:10

Signing in! I invited myself onto the massive thread but can I join the new starters one here too? Just got back from W2R3 and am trowelling down granola cos I'm a pig I reckon I deserve it.

OTheHugeRaveningWolef · 27/08/2011 10:12

Bssh - if it's any help I found that 90 second bursts of running got steadily easier this week, until on this last run I forgot to stop once or twice and carried on to 2min before I remembered!

FairyBlueBell · 27/08/2011 19:20

Hi all. Nursing a sore knee so taking a few days off Sad Marking my place so I stay on thread.

Back soon when I sort out the right kind if support for it ....

BsshBossh · 27/08/2011 19:59

Wolef that's reassuring. I still find it strange how much I look forward to these runs. Crazy!

BsshBossh · 30/08/2011 09:33

Fairy hope your knee gets better soon. Do you think knee exercises can help? I find lots of variety of squats help my weak knees - before and after a run.

Okay, so W2R2 complete. Found it easier than the previous run in terms of stamina and I was surprised then the session ended as I think I could have run a little bit more. Really feel great.

FairyBlueBell · 31/08/2011 16:56

Hi all Well done to everyone who has been out this last few days!

Chiropractor on Friday for Fairy . . . have had a "knee" since injuring it quite badly when I was a teenager.

Getting really grumpy at not having my "jogging time" a few times a week and its a bit sore for more than 15-20 mins walking.

Hoping to learn some new techniques to keep it supple she says confidently

vanimal · 31/08/2011 21:16

I haven't run for a week - we've been away for a wedding, and then DH has been abroad for work so I have not had anyone to watch the DDs so I can go.

I was only on W2R1, should I continue with this, or go back to W1? I would rather continue from where I am, disappointed to have a set back so early.

Although I hate running, I am finding myself desperate to go out tomorrow and run, I have quickly gone back to being lazy and eating junk this week, running seems to be keeping me on the straight and narrow :)

febes · 01/09/2011 05:42

I have done run 3 week 2 and was going to go for an extra run tonight but I have a really sore throat and cold symptoms so I'll maybe go for another run tomorrow or I'll just start week 3 on sunday.

idealism · 01/09/2011 15:51

week 3 run 2 done! Bumped into someone today who said I was looking slim - told them it was my new running regime; first time I've ever said that!! definitely motivating!

BsshBossh · 01/09/2011 21:51

vanimal I would continue where you left off as you may as well push yourself. You were only off for a week. Try it and see how it goes.

W2R3 completed today. This time I found it hard work because I was running with a headache but I pushed through to the end and was very exhilarated at the end.

W3 commences on Saturday.

idealism what a compliment, no wonder you feel motivated :)

idealism · 02/09/2011 09:29

well done Bssh - headaches not the best with running! Good luck with week 3, definitely more of a challenge; get those running tunes set up to spur you on

vanimal · 02/09/2011 22:54

Bssh, well done for running with a headache, that sounds painful.

I did W2R2 today, and surprisingly find it easier than W2R1, which was really strange as I haven't run for a week. But I was pleased, and am looking forward to the next one - not sure how I will manage to run more than 90 seconds at a time but I will think about that later :)

I also bought some sports earphones with ear hooks, making it much easier to keep my fiddly headphones in.

I feel much better having been for a run - a week off was making me feel very lethargic and generally crappy, it's nice to feel active and energised after a run.

idealism that is a great compliment - you must be chuffed!

febes · 04/09/2011 10:07

Just did week 3 run 1 tonight! I loved it. It felt easier than last week somehow. Its such a brilliant programme!

idealism · 04/09/2011 20:42

finished week 3 - nearly died from exhaustion when I walked in the front door, but am SO pleased with myself for doing it! Week 4's programme looks really challenging!

Jezabelle · 05/09/2011 13:01

Currently running a 16-17 minute run which I reckon is about 1.6 miles. I have a 2 mile run in mind I plan to be running in a week or so. I'm really pleased with myself for keeping it up as I've never managed to in the past. I do sometimes find it difficult to motivate myself and wonder if it would be easier to run with a friend. Anyone run with someone else? Do you find it helpful?
