I got abit fitter a while back (had a trainer), he moved away and I kept it up and jumped in at about week 4 or 5, but that was months ago now Blush I really need to get fit for a job and lose at least 1 stone (ideally about 4!) Anyone want to start with me? Or are all the newbies jumping straight onto the massive thread? :)

I'm still here! Having problems downloading course due to virus ridden computer! I did go on my usual run yesterday and did it in 5 rather than 6 minutes. Mainly because I did an early evening rather than early morning run and there were more people about. Felt so self conscious that I ran as fast as I could just to get home!

Will get DH to try and download course tonight, or else I'll try and do it whilst staying at friends over the weekend.

cuddlysmurf · 05/08/2011 13:02

Hey everyone

duende sounds like you had a fab holiday. Must have been an amazing welcome hug from your DS Wink

This W6 is a tough one for me. Think I hurt myself a bit doing caravan things last weekend and from my thigh to my ankle on my right leg is quite stiff and not really cooperating. Abandoned R2 yesterday after 9 mins as I felt I was having to force my whole leg for each step. DH suggests a few days of stretching gently lots of times a day before a W3 run. That's what I get for hammering on the door of being 43 and 10kg heavier than is good for me Sad

Off to find the yoga DVD .....

cuddlysmurf · 05/08/2011 13:05

Lmao at UmBongos flies Grin. Tis too close to freezing for them to have been much of a bother up here this "summer" Envy

duende · 07/08/2011 21:42

Girls! Girls! oh my god, I can't believe this. I have just done 6k! yes, 6K. (the longest I ran before tonight was about 4k) I went out to do W7R2 - 25 minute run, and I ended up running and running for 47 minutes. It felt so great I didn't want to stop. It NEVER felt so good before.
I wonder if I will ever be able to repeat this but am seriously high right now Grin

cuddlysmurf · 08/08/2011 08:15

Go Duende. We worship at your probably sore feet

I'm Envy but you have motivated me to go for a short run this morning if my DS cooperates by eating breakfast and getting out the door to nursery Confused

cuddlysmurf · 08/08/2011 11:35

Did it GrinGrin. W6R2 did NOT beat me!! Roll in the 25 minuter later this week.

duende · 09/08/2011 22:25

Well done smurf! It's getting a bit more enjoyable, isn't it?
I clocked 6k in tonight again! really, really pleased with myself. Didn't enjoy i as much as the last time though, I think I was feeling too tense being out tonight. There's been some rumours it may get a bit heated round here later :(

cuddlysmurf · 10/08/2011 07:39

Hi Duende. Well done to you - did you ever think that squeezing a few 6Ks into a week would be achievable ? Grin.

In off out for a jog at lunchtime - and it's the first 25 minute one. Gonna see if I can find an app to track distance.

Hope you are all well and that there were no arsehole driven incidents near you last night.

duende · 10/08/2011 11:28

Cuddly, endomondo is a great app, and free. I really like it. Or couch25k.
Good luck and enjoy!

Jezabelle · 11/08/2011 15:40

I am doing my own thing training wise, partly because I couldn't download program due to computer probs, but I can get it on my DHs phone. The thing is I do my running first thing before DH goes to work so he can have kids, and I just can't find 30 minutes at that time in the morning. I have been doing a 5-6 minute run most days and yesterday I stepped up to a slightly further 8 minute run, (it's only 0.7 miles so I guess I'm running pretty slowly, but at least I'm getting out there!)

I have just seen for the first time in my life how you can get a bit hooked on running! I was due to go out this morning and went without a second thought dispite the rain!

UmBongo · 11/08/2011 20:34

Right, ankle better:), weather worse :( and since coming back from camping yesterday I can't find my Ipod :(:(

Aaaaaargh. I had it in the tent at campsite No1, put it in handbag, may have moved it, may have dropped out. Don't know can't remember, very cross.

Anyone know of a cheap mp3 player that I can get the podcasts onto for tomorrow night?!!!! Or failing that, does anyone know where my Ipod is? It's a lovely pink one!

Well done Duende and cuddly I am very impressed and a little Envy!

duende · 11/08/2011 22:58

Hi, umbongo, I have a sansa clip, one of these. I like it a lot for running because it's light and clips on to my clothes but has a display so i can find files easily.

Cuddly how did your lunch time run go yesterday?

I did 5.5k today (41 minutes), it was veeeryyy tiring tonight.
But hey, I've run 17.5k this week, this is probably more than in the last 5 years in total Grin

vanimal · 11/08/2011 23:09

Hiya, how good is this for fat girls who have never run before? I really want to shift a few pounds, and stop feeling so old and weary all of the time Sad
Will have a proper look at this tomorrow....

UmBongo · 12/08/2011 19:08

FOUND IT!!!!!! It had fallen down the side of the drivers seat in the car! Hooray!

Will download and have another go at week 4, see if I can get back into it from there - may have to go back to week 3 as have eaten all sorts of rubbish this last 2 weeks or however long I have been out of action for!

Welcome Vanimal I am a fat girl who has never run before and I lost nearly a stone in a month of the C25K with eating better and running! I was doing well til my ankle started hurting! But am going out tonight for my first run for a while - my best weight loss plan has always been eat less, move more! Download it and go for it! Grin

UmBongo · 12/08/2011 21:04

Done it! I was right to go back to week 4 I think, that was just as hard as I remember it being the first time round! Although I did do 6 minutes instead of 5 for the last run!

I have just looked back and it was 13th July I did wk4 r1 last time! One month on and getting nowhere fast! BUT my ankle is Ok, so Hooray, felt good to be out again tonight Grin

duende · 15/08/2011 22:27

well done, umbongo :)

is this thread getting a bit sleepy? :) who's still here?

I did 5k tonight. Lots of huffing and puffing. And it was dark for the last 15 minutes or so which I didn't enjoy. I may have to switch to running in the morning again (hate getting up early) and think about joining a gym soon when the days get shorter...

idealism · 15/08/2011 23:23

just started it today! How long before people lost any weight? Enjoyed the first session - feeling the burn tonight though! Need dome tales of excellent weight loss to inspire - have about a stone to lose.....

idealism · 15/08/2011 23:24

some - not 'dome'.

cuddlysmurf · 16/08/2011 10:10

Wakey wakey Smurf Grin

Been out a couple of times in the last few days and really struggling to get past 22 mins - some motivation needed (and less wobbly bits would help too)

cuddlysmurf · 16/08/2011 10:58

oops - had to press "post" on my phone and then get into a meeting @ work! Now speed-typing on my computer before next meeting at 11am.

Duende you are still my inspiration - the Nike app is now my new friend (altho I dont like when she tells me that it takes me 10 mins to jog just one miserly K!) I have to kick up the pace and kick up my distance if I am ever gonna stand a chance of finishing this 10K in 6 weeks time.

Hi Idealism - weight loss for me has been slow - but it has taken me 10 weeks to get to week 6 IYSWIM - I have lost about 3kgs but a holiday in the middle with lots of "treats" stalled me for about 3 weeks . . .

UmBongo glad to hear that you found your mojo and your ipod and that your ankle is better.

W6R3 of 25 mins will NOT beat me - plan to be back out on Thursday at lunchtime as working from home that day and I WILL do 3k in that time.

Anyone else still here? And come on out of the woodwork anyone who is still lurking Wink

FoxyRevenger · 16/08/2011 14:23

I just remembered i was on this thread... Grin

I'm on week 4, did my first one last night. It was the hardest so far!

I really really can't see how in 5 runs time I am supposed to run for 20 minutes, it's a big leap, isn't it?

Still, am really proud of myself so far, I have managed every run; I am so good at following instructions I fear I may have made an excellent Nazi. Wink Hmm

vanimal · 16/08/2011 18:09

Am downloading the podcasts, and am going to start this tomorrow morning. Eeek!

I am very unfit, and feeling old for my age (36). I have dieted for years, but just need to be healthier and more energised, rather than slim and lethargic.

Fingers crossed!

FoxyRevenger · 17/08/2011 09:46

Go vanimal! It's great, really - amazing what you can do when you are following instructions. How did it go?

vanimal · 17/08/2011 12:31

Hi FoxyRevenger,

I have just come back from my 1st run! Yay! It went really well. I was shattered by about run number 3, felt like my legs were moving but my body wasn't going anywhere, but I kept running at all of the correct times.

I was also far less self-conscious than I thought I would be - I drove to the local big park and ran there, so lots of people around.

But it was great! My thighs are a bit achey, but in a good way :-) I feel fitter already :-) My wobbly bits were wobbly, which is a great motivator, as I want to see that go.

I can't believe how tired I was after just 8 mins running in total, but I feel VERY motivated, and on a bit of a buzz now :-)

I will be living on this thread now, I am planning to go on Friday morning next.

How are you doing? How much running is there by week 4?

cuddlysmurf · 17/08/2011 13:24

Hi vanimal - well done for getting out without resorting to a disguise, and good to hear you are motivated. Sorry I havent said hello to you before, but normally access mumsnet on the phone and its harder to read back thread.

Welcome back Foxy I loved your comment ^ about being good at following instructions. Grin

I walked DS to nursery this morning and on the way home there is a long steep hill - which the smurf can now walk quickly to the top of without being red and wheezing - I felt "normal" at the top! All this jogging is really improving my cardio fitness (OK so I started at a low baseline).

Back out tomorrow (or maybe this evening if DH gets home early enough) for another attempt at getting close to my 3K in under 25 goal!

Enjoy your next runs everyone.
