Any Couch25K new starters?

I got abit fitter a while back (had a trainer), he moved away and I kept it up and jumped in at about week 4 or 5, but that was months ago now Blush I really need to get fit for a job and lose at least 1 stone (ideally about 4!) Anyone want to start with me? Or are all the newbies jumping straight onto the massive thread? :)

Hi Vivian, welcome :)
I stopped running with Laura because I didn't share her music tastes...I am now using an iphone app, I think it's just called couch to 5k, which lets you listen to your own music. much better! it also tells you the distance you have covered, the average speed and you can map the route.

UmBongo · 21/07/2011 19:14

Hmm, Duende unfortunately I don't have an iphone just an ipod so I think I have to put up with Laura's dodgy record collection!

Vivian I have been hoping you were going to post again to say your size 6 was a typo! I was 14st 2lb at the start of this and size 18 and am now already 13 st 7 and due another weigh on saturday. So I am sure my wobbly belly is much bigger than yours! But if I can run, anyone can!

I hope you are getting on ok!

cuddlysmurf · 21/07/2011 22:28

Hi everyone!! Welcome to our 2 new ladies Smile. Will catch up on the news properly when I'm not trying to work mumsnet on an iPhone grrrrrrrr

Did W5R2 today around Kirkwall harbour - watched by DH and DS all the way!

Blush at DS cheering me on thru the last few seconds "faster mummy!".

Getting a bit nervous of making my jelly belly (all 12stone 3 of it) wobble for 20 mins on Saturday. But I've lost 10lbs since starting this programme! Holiday vodka food probably gonna stall any loss this week into next but hey ho ....

UmBongo · 22/07/2011 21:03

W5R2 done tonight, just there and back again as normal, no harbour to run round Envy Although I am pleased that dh and ds weren't watching! I am pleased it is not just me concerned about the 20 minute run coming next!

I did do 2 minutes voluntary excess, one minute on each run so I did 2 x 9 mins tonight, so not much jump from 18 to 20 minutes Hmm except how I will do it without the walk in the middle I am not sure! Ankle sore this evening too.

Never mind, 2 nights off till run 3 on monday.

How are you getting on Vivian?

cuddlysmurf · 22/07/2011 22:22

Virtual harbour and sunshine winging it's way to you UmBongo Grin

Fuuuuuck!!!! The 20 min run is tomorrow so off to bed and no more vodka for the smurf

FoxyRevenger · 25/07/2011 11:44

I'm going for it tonight.

Am scared!!!!!

weimy · 25/07/2011 13:58

Can i join you?

I did my first week one on sat on the treadmill using a podcast. I am going again tonight. I have mild depression and as well as getting fitter I want to sort this out.

cuddlysmurf · 25/07/2011 15:34

Hi foxy and weimy. Come and join our merry band of joggers ....

Hope everyone had a good weekend Grin

The big scary 20 minute jog now done (this morning) and it was fine ~ although I looked a bit Blush after it and the old legs are a bit achey now ..... the podcast dame says that I'm now officially a runner so watch your back Mr Bolt Wink

FoxyRevenger · 25/07/2011 20:09

I did iiiit!!!

Felt ok actually, not as bad as expected.

I will probably be feeling very different tomorrow when the legs get achey but hey, first run over and done with.

Feeling very chuffed with my self. Grin

UmBongo · 25/07/2011 21:07

Hello Foxy and Weimy, well done for starting! I have also convinced a couple of RL friends to start this C25K thing too, cos I keep going on about it! I told so many people I had started so that I would have to keep going, or have to explain sooooo many times why I was a lazy old fat thing and couldn't be bothered! Don't worry about the aches, they go off!

Although having said that my ankle is chuffing sore this evening, I don't know what I have done to it (apart from taken up running!!!)

BUT, I have done my 20 minuter! GrinShock and most definitely Blush when finished. I am glad that week six goes back to shorter runs before going on to the 25 minuter though, I may have to re-run week six if I feel this knackered by this time next week. Who knows, this plan never fails to surprise me in that I CAN do as I am told!

I HAVE RUN FOR 20 MINUTES!!!!! (Not fast, but definitely not walking!!!!) Well done Smurf too!

weimy · 25/07/2011 21:08

Thanks cuddly!! Grin

well done foxy i did my second today followed by pilates, will be sore tomorrow too!!!

cuddlysmurf · 26/07/2011 20:22

Roll Call time as I've lost track of who is where so:-

Who's all still here and where are you in our quest for 5k?

Smurfs next run is week 6 run 1 tomorrow (if my thighs stop screaming after yesterday Wink)

newportstateofmind · 26/07/2011 20:35

Had another try at a 30 minuter last night, and did manage it but with about 5 minutes of walking in the middle. Partly because I was soooooo Blush (it's amazing how quickly I have lost fitness after a lax few weeks) but mainly because I just thought "Oh f* it!"

Have got six weeks with no excuses not to run though, so I'm going to try and get back into it properly again.

Welcome Foxy, Weimy and Vivian! How are you getting on?

weimy · 26/07/2011 22:02

Hi doing 3rd week one tomorrow!

UmBongo · 27/07/2011 20:17

I am supposed to be doing week 6 run 1 tonight. but ankle is still sore and have just looked up "running ankle pain" on google and found that I should rest it. Hmmph. Now all I have to do is get it to stop hurting so I can run tomorrow! I really wanted to lose 3 more lbs this week to get under 13st. And if I can't run, I will have to eat even less. Bugger. And I am sitting in the house, where the food is. Double bugger.

weimy · 28/07/2011 22:22

hope ankle gets better, how frustrating umbongo!

Ran week 2 for first time today, was hard work but I made it lol.

Jezabelle · 29/07/2011 17:14

Hello all! I feel very excited about this thread. I will endeavor to download tonight although as my computer is running on safe mode not sure if it'll let me. The thing is, I have started running before reading any of this. I haven't really done any excersize since DC1 was born 5 yrs back! Actually I didn't do much before that either Blush. But about a month ago I started running. I only run round the block. About 2 thirds of a mile I think and it takes me about 5 minutes. I do this most mornings. Do you think I could skip a week or 2 of the program as a result or does it not work like that?

If I just did my own program, with the aim of doing a 5k, can I still join your thread for support?

UmBongo · 29/07/2011 19:12

Welcome Jezabelle, of course you can join in, I am going to be hanging around even though I can't run at the moment! If you can run 5 minutes already, try starting on week 3 or so as I think that you are past the running for one minute and being knackered that I was at week one!

My doctor friend says I have to rest my ankle until it stops hurting, so I have decided to try and maintain my now current weight without losing or gaining, until I can run again and then I will have to go back into the C25K program on week 4 or so, depending on how long I am off for. I don't think I will be able to start straight back in on week 6 run 1 which was due to be my next run. Sad

Thanks Wiemy and good luck for week 2!

Jezabelle · 29/07/2011 23:15

Sounds really sensible UmBongo. Just maintain your current weight. Very frustrating but just a matter of weeks in the big picture. Don't rush back too early and hurt yourself more.

Was not able to try and download tonight as was at Pampered Chef party, (counter productive to the cause I know!) Will get DH on the case tomorrow. Glad to hear you think I can skip the first few weeks UmBongo. Feel like I've made a start already and don't want to take a step back!

cuddlysmurf · 30/07/2011 19:39

Hi all Wink

UmBongo my sympathies for your ankle and hope it's better soon -I've been off running for a few days with knee pain (longterm nuisance of a thing going on). W6 starts tomorrow.

cuddlysmurf · 30/07/2011 19:44

Oops pressed send before welcoming Jezabele to our "gang". Second what UmBongo says about jumping in at week3.

Been on holiday for 2 weeks now and am scared to step on the scales at the DH and I weekly weighbridge event on Wednesday Confused

newportstateofmind · 31/07/2011 23:20

Phew! Was getting a bit worried because on my last two 'runs' (still not convinced that they qualify as running Grin) I struggled to get past 20 mins without walking, but managed 35 mins tonight which is a PB!! Smile

Have decided to sign up for a 10k in October as well Hmm as I need something to kick my lazy arse into gear!!

Hope your ankle gets better soon, UmBongo. Hopefully it won't take you too long to get back into the swing of things once you can run again. DH assures me that muscles 'remember', so you will prob get back up to where you were quicker than you expect.

How did you get on today, smurf? A 2 week holiday is definitely a good enough excuse for a bad weigh-in!! Although coming from someone that came in from 'running' and went straight for the strawberries and cream, this may not be the best advice!!

Hello Jezabele! Welcome to the gang!

cuddlysmurf · 01/08/2011 18:43

Go Newport. Glad to have someone else with a big scary 10k to buddy train with! Respect to your 35 mins Envy

Did w6r1 this morning and was ok during and after - even after using 146bpm music that had my feet going faster than they ever have Grin

Postponed this weeks weigh-in till Friday as I'm working away for the next few days - not sure that 2 days grace will make any odds tho'.

duende · 02/08/2011 22:04

hello ladies, I've missed you :)
I'm back after a week's holiday when I only ran once. To my surpirse, I managed to do W6D3 today - 25 min run! I wanted to die after the first 10 minutes though. When does it get easier??

I am also very jealous of people losing weight. I haven't lost a pound since starting this :( I quit smoking on 1st March and have put on about 8lbs since, would love to lose it, but it's not happening.

UmBongo · 02/08/2011 22:32

Thanks for the kind words, ankle is on the mend but by no means better. Managed not to put any weight on last week, but have eaten a bit more this week so will have to wait and see. When I am exercising I am better at not eating cake etc cos I look at it and think "10 minutes more running if I eat that" but this week has been harder cos I can't bloody run, so have been thinking "bollocks to it" instead, which is less than positive Grin

To change the subject. I live in a 4 bedroom house. Why do the buzzy flies have to share the exact same airspace as me? There are plenty of other places to be that are not 1" away from my left ear!
