That sounds lovely! I'm having an Indian takeaway. Something creamy though - I don't really like spicy spicy food.

Wheelybug · 28/05/2011 18:47

Sounds lovely Driving - have a nice evening. Mind you Curry sounds good too !

Just looking on FB, I've just added Debi but I see a couple of others have added a couple of others (if that makes sense !). If you don't have me (initials VH) let me know and I'll add you bt I don't want to start adopting people's random friends (however nice they might be !).

drivingmisscrazy · 28/05/2011 19:13

oh, and good luck to squix and sungirltan for tomorrow. More race reports. Goody!

I just came on to say Bleurgh.

To explain - tried a gel today for the 1st time (Power gel strawberry banana). Tasted like Calpol and just as sticky. It did do the job though. Also bought some PowerBar rides which are cola flavoured jelly-type sweets - much nicer.

Did 10 miles in serious wind a full 1.5 min/mile slower into the wind. At one point the cross wind nearly made me trip over my own feet Blush. Felt fantastic! I am now thinking (just thinking) about doing a full marathon if my half goes well as I am really enjoying the long runs.

Afterwards I had one of those ForGoodnessShakes from Sainsburys - yummy. I have definitely had less of the usual post-long run shiveriness and lethargy today so it seems I do need to pay more attention to fueling my long runs.

I quite like Womens Running. I have had 2 issues so far and seems to be a bit less earnest than RW and more aimed at my level. I think it could do with a bit less of the emphasis on weight loss and dieting but I suppose that is what sells.

On spitting - I try not to but sometimes it just has to be done. Only when no-one is looking though as you can guarantee that is when it will end up down my chin.

Good Luck squix and sungirltan

TheChewyToffeeMum · 28/05/2011 20:01

Doh! The PowerBar cola-flavour thingies are called "Sport shots".

N4NNY · 28/05/2011 20:06

Hello please can I join I've been running on and off for about 13 months I did my first 10k last October in 1h 30min I was really please with my time especially when i discovered 2 days later that i was running with a lung infection not the cracked/bruised rib I thought i had, It took a long time to recover from that but i'm back runing and still loving it.

I have joined a running course starting on wednesday that is going to help prepare me for a half marathan which I think is a pipe dream but I'm gonna give it a good shot. I'm also doing the 5k race for life in July

backwardpossom · 28/05/2011 20:12

Welcome N4NNY! Get your race pasted into the list! :)

drivingmisscrazy · 28/05/2011 20:16

N4NNy brilliant stuff - welcome aboard...you can definitely do a half (I can, so anyone can) - do you have a race in mind (tip: pick a flat one!)?

OP posts:
N4NNY · 28/05/2011 20:19

drivingmisscrazy possibly the bristol half marathan not researched it yet to see if its hilly. my 10k was very hilly and i will never do a run at that venue again it was hard hard hard

TheChewyToffeeMum · 28/05/2011 20:21

Hi N4NNY nice to meet you!

There are a few of us training for half-marathons at the moment so you fill find quite a bit of chat about it. Great to find a place to discuss running without boring the pants off non-runners.

drivingmisscrazy · 28/05/2011 20:26

I think someone else on here is planning on doing that one...

squix · 28/05/2011 22:35

Loads to catch up on again.....

I love coming on here to chat running ? DH does no exercise at all. He?s one of those really annoying people who eats whatever he wants and is tall and lean. He must have a very low body fat and eats a ton of sugar. It?s a standing joke in our house that he runs like a girl.

I can talk about running with my dad but as he lives the other end of the country it?s always a bit limited. He?s super fast ? one of those wirey older men (he's 64) who just seem to be able to take off when they run. He still does probably 5-7 miles a day at about 7.45 / 8 min mile pace and has a pb of 1.20 for a half (that was 25 years ago tho). He?s the only person I enjoy training with, he pushes me but is happy to slow down if I need to. I realise I am very lucky to have him Smile.

backwardpossum I?m thinking of the Loch Ness 10k too! Looks like I could be your race stalker....first Edinburgh then Inverness.....Smile One of the friends I am doing the R4L with tomorrow suggested it - she?s looking for her next challenge after 5k and thought that might be a good one. I was also interested in the preschool run too ? DD is desperate to come out with me and would love that.

DrNo - sounds like a great run ? you are speedy!

Themasterandmargaritas - I can?t spit either. I seem to have saliva that defies gravity.

N4NNY - hello , yes ? get stuck in, ask lots of questions I find every question absolutely fascinating and really do learn some interesting things on here.

There?s an article in the latest Runner?s World about the camaraderie that Running inspires ? something along the lines of even if you don?t run with other folk, there is a common thread in running that binds us together and makes us care....made me think about this thread. Grin

Oh ? and thanks for all of your good wishes for tomorrow ? feel a bit of a fraud as I really am just planning to plod round and catch up with my friends and eat brunch afterwards. I will be amazed if I get round in less than 30 mins.

DrNortherner · 28/05/2011 22:41

So far I'm the only spitter then....Blush Is it cause I is Northern? Grin

drivingmisscrazy · 28/05/2011 22:55

DrNo - did you have brothers? DP and I discussed why it was that blokes can spit and women (generally, your good self excepted!) can't - it's because teenage boys practice this a lot. I've never understood why the physiology of boys was so different that they had to spit all the time (are you a boy? where's cestlavie when you need him? in fact, where is he?). Spitting while running a special case, granted.

Even when I used to play hockey competitively girls' teams didn't spit...

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 28/05/2011 22:58

Nope, no brothers. Though I do remember having spitting competitions on the mean streets I grew up on! I do only spit whilst running, promise. And it is white frothy spit, not green stuff that footballers do

Sorry to lower the tone Grin

squix · 28/05/2011 23:04

I is northern too....although I do get accused of being a posh scouser

drivingmisscrazy · 28/05/2011 23:07

I'm sure we can go lower, tone-wise :o I'm a southerner, but trash from the mean streets of south east london, nonetheless...(despite my posh education!)

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 28/05/2011 23:11

I'm probably as northern as it gets on here but I don't spit Wink

sfxmum · 28/05/2011 23:26

speaking of lowering the tone I recall clearing my nose while running a few months back, totally convinced it was well clear, as it happens I just got a 'badge' Blush
I got looks, nearly believed I looked particularly lovely that morning,
a couple of miles later I noticed it Shock

peachsmuggler · 28/05/2011 23:32

Badge of shame!!

I don't spit, despite my northern tendencies, but have on occasion run into other people spit and these people weren't even running, yeauucch!

Your dinner sounds lovely Driving, you both deserved it.

Welcome N4nny

right, having fallen asleep on sofa, am now off to bed as feel dreadful.

MrsWednesday · 28/05/2011 23:35

I'm not much of a spitter unfortunately (lacking in both volume and ability).

Much excitement in this house because of the birth of our 4 new kittens tonight! I feel a bit bad that I missed the birth for the first two because we were all watching the football. I think she's finished now, they are all lying snuggled up on DS1's top bunk bed. Not sure what the other two (male, neutered) cats are going to make of all this...

Good luck in the races tomorrow Squix and sungirltan.

backwardpossom · 29/05/2011 08:53

Good luck today squix and sungirltan

Goldberry · 29/05/2011 08:59

Good luck squix and suntangirl! No running going on here. Just a ton of antibiotics and a throat infection. Boo. I'm not a spitter either, btw.

Themasterandmargaritas · 29/05/2011 09:02

Good luck Squix and sungirltan.

drivingmisscrazy · 29/05/2011 09:30

MrsWeds 3 cats! we have 2, and sometimes it seems like 2 too many (they are not friends, it is fair to say).

I am shattered - the last week seems to have really taken it out of me and it's taking a while to get the stress out of my body (IYSWIM - I know that sounds a bit hippy-dippy); I was going to get up and do 5 miles this morning, but body just wouldn't. I'll see if I feel like it later on this afternoon.
