Debi my road bike adds at least a couple of miles an hour to my speed, more on the flat. If you live in a hilly area though, the gears don't go as low.

The more time I spend on my road bike the more I love it but it is very different to my mountain bike.

YeahThatsTheBadger · 27/05/2011 09:54

Thinking of you and dp today driving.

Went out for my run last night and thankfully the legs felt good. Knackered though as it was a bad night with dd. She was sick after dinner yesterday-it was like the playdoh fun factory. Smile I managed to catch most of it in my hands otherwise MIL would have been splattered. DD she seems back to normal today thankfully. DS did the same on monday but I got covered, along with the carpet and the bathroom. Pesky children!

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/05/2011 10:01

Just popping in to say I am thinking of you Driving.

Then I shall be back later to work out who is who and nosy at all the photos. Confused

I have a day off work thanks to the birthday of our Head of State, so I have just done 7k in 23 degree 10.30am heat, to challenge me a bit more ready for Lewa. The shins are not toooooo bad, but I am just sitting with some ice on them for a few minutes before a school run. It's quite good this ice business...

notyummy · 27/05/2011 10:05

Hi there fellow runners! I have popped into this thread from time to time but struggle to keep up!

I do have a question though! I have pushing the distance on my 'long' run each week and will be doing 12 miles today. I tend to do two other shorter runs as well as circuit training and either yoga or pilates.

At what sort of distance/time do you need to start taking on board calories/fluid? I never have up until now, have been gradually running further and further, and just making sure I am relatively well fed and hydrated before I go. Would be glad for any thoughts.

Also, I seem to be able to maintain 8 minutes miles ok (well I have for 11 miles anyway.) But I also seem to run at this pace for a 5 mile run. Am I right in thinking that fartlek/efforts will be the best way to increase the pace?

Wheelybug · 27/05/2011 10:05

Thinking of you today driving - hope that phone call comes soon.

Wheelybug · 27/05/2011 10:10

Oh and I've reached my latest weight loss goal as of this morning - yippee !! I'd given myself until we went on holiday to get there but the tonisilitis gave it a boost in the right direction ! Although more wobbly bits than I'd hoped for at this weight so it continues... maybe just another half a stone Smile.

And that reminds me - someone was asking about tonsilitis - look in your throat. If there are white lumps on your tonsils, its tonisilitis (or similar infection) and you probably need antibiotics. But, I'm not a doctor.... apologies to those who may be !

And.. was someone going to cadbury world - doyou I think ? DD1 wants to go and I am keen to take her. I lived for a year just the other side of the railway line to the factory and we used to smell the chocolate in the air when the wind was in the right direction ! Want to take her and bore her with my old university haunts (well some of them anyway....).

peachsmuggler · 27/05/2011 10:42

Have just added loads of you on FB, very exciting! I must say you do all look lovely! Will have a look at all your lovely kids in a bit. Must put up more pics of DD on mine.

Great news on meeting your target Wheely!

Welcome notyummy, I usually take fluid for 6 miles plus and calories for 8 miles plus, though everyone is different. Godo idea to play around with these things and see how they work for you! Definitely good idea to do some intervals/fartlek at your shorter runs, though you sound pretty speedy already!

Badger I am amazed at your nonchalant approach to sick catching! DD has only been sick once, and that was in her cot, so am sure I have all this to come. Perhaps they could turn it into an Olympic event for next year Smile

Stick got it all crossed for you driving, hoping the wait isn't to much longer.

sfxmum · 27/05/2011 10:49

wheely well done, it can be hard work especially in winter, I am not even making a serious attempt before my exam on the 13th, revision gives me the munchies

badger what a pro Grin

futurity · 27/05/2011 10:54

Just been adding on facebook but not sure I have everyone as I have done it through Wheelybugs list but as I have been so slow in getting round to this I may have not got everyone...not sure I have you peachsmuggler but will wait until I hear back from Wheelybug.

I am going to have to write a list of who everyone is as this is all very confusing!

Wheelybug · 27/05/2011 11:12

Hopefully you got my FB message Futurity. MN has gone a bit wierd on me...

Will pm you mrswed and paws re Facebook.

futurity · 27/05/2011 13:08

:) my DH sent me a text going "you have five new friends on facebook...are you popular or have you been hacked!?" told him that you are all random psychopaths that I am befriending!

drivingmisscrazy · 27/05/2011 13:11

no news, nothing...am feeling less and less confident that we'll hear today, even though they said we would

OP posts:
sfxmum · 27/05/2011 13:23

tell him it is from the hairy truckers club

diving hang in there, can you call them? sorry this wait must be very hard

drivingmisscrazy · 27/05/2011 13:31

I htink we'll call them after lunch; just annoyed that they said Friday when that patently isn't true...

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 27/05/2011 13:39

Hang in there misscrazy... The result will be what it will be. It is just knowing that is frustrating if they led you to believe it would be today. If not, it won't change the outcome.

drivingmisscrazy · 27/05/2011 13:46

moshi - no, I know that when the result comes won't change anything, but would just to know so that we can start dealing with whatever comes next and start using the future tense in sentences again...

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 27/05/2011 14:04

driving hope you get the results today, or you are in for a long BH weekend. Sad

drivingmisscrazy · 27/05/2011 14:18

you are all the salt of the earth - I am particularly moved because so many of you have experienced similar (and worse)

soppy hugs!!

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 27/05/2011 14:24

Hooooorrraaaayyy! I have to admit to feeling a little weepy for you both. Grin

YeahThatsTheBadger · 27/05/2011 14:29

I am so pleased for you and your dp driving. I have been refreshing this page every 5 minutes for the last half hour hoping there would be a good result.
Fantastic news. Grin x

Ormirian · 27/05/2011 14:31

Just read about your baby driving! I went through similar about 9 years ago. We had several soft markers for Downs and Edwards. It was a horrible time. So glad all is well for you now.

I've managed just over 13 miles this week in 3 runs so slowly improving.

futurity · 27/05/2011 14:32

that's so cool to hear! :)
