My left shin feels really sore today

Is it par for the course to nearly always have something taht hurts?

MoshiMoshi · 26/05/2011 13:12

DrNo - Yes. You are a runner!

peachsmuggler · 26/05/2011 13:25

Yup! That sounds about right DrNo Smile

Moshi, just looked up the Bosu ball. Didn't realise that's what they were called. Think I used one of those when I had physiotheray for a broken ankle...erm...fun!!! How is your mum getting on with her high calorie diet? Does she have a target to meet before they will operate?

Pavlov, was thinking about your tiredness. Would reiterate what the others have said about getting iron levels checked, but also are you eating planty if carbs? If you are running regularly you need to be upping your carb intake from the norm. Just a thought.

thecoo · 26/05/2011 14:58

I think I must be missing some vital info re Facebook - how do you all know each other's real names? Perhaps I haven't been on the thread long enough...

Must admit I'm useless at updating my Facebook page as Social Media is a big part of my job, so I tend to avoid it when I'm not working, but I'm nosy and would love to see what you all look like! Wink It's funny how you build up a pic of people in your head, then they turn out to look completely different!

pawsnclaws · 26/05/2011 15:05

Thecoo I found mrsw's name through her justgiving page, then once I found her on fb I used my detective skills to work out everyone else. Will pm you my details when I get the chance.

Wheelybug · 26/05/2011 15:48

Anyone who wants to jump on the FB bandwagon - PM me and I can send you details of me and let you know who else is 'one of us'. Have yet to have a good nose at everyone's photos - hee hee.

driving - hope you're all bearing up. Everything crossed here for tomorrow.

As you've all been talking about it, I had a bagel and cashew butter for breakie this morning and didn't feel hungry even by lunchtime (my mornings included 5 miles on the treadmill) and usually I need a banana before my gym session at 10.

Hope those on the injury bench are improving.

The dds and I are off to my parents for part ofhalf term and will overlap with my dbro who suggested we went for a run together - I don't really like running with other people, especially those who are better than me but he was suggesting running up on the south downs from my parents which isn't a route I would do on my own as I am too much of a city dweller to understand x-country routes (where are the road names ?? ) but think it would be a lovely route albeit hilly. So I said I would see, which probably means i will. But will be knackered as I will try and prove I am as good as him... which I'm not by a long shot Grin.

futurity · 26/05/2011 16:08

Have just pm'd you :)

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 17:15

wheely A country run with your bro sounds fab. Go for it. I'm the exact opposite, I prefer running with someone, partic on longer runs. I have to do 11 miles on Sat and my SIL is away so I will be running alone. Might dig out my ipod an upload a podcast, any recommendations?

Tonight I am marshalling at a local road race organised by our club. It's like a mosoon here today so have dug out my Berghaus jacket and my wellies. Great!

pawsnclaws · 26/05/2011 17:46

Same for me as Wheely - just pm me for fb details.

Hope all are well and bearing up under the various stresses and strains. Will be thinking of you especially Moshi and driving.

Looks like the foul weather has finally made it down south - I got soaked picking ds1 and 2 up from school because obviously the heavens opened at exactly 4.15. Have just sneaked on mn while trying to cook tea/supervise ds1's cello practice (he has his first concert tomorrow lunchtime, which means I have to mix with all the uber-mummies crowing about how brilliant their dcs are at everything while my ds1 scratches away on the cello! Wish us luck!)

Had a horrid run today, 6 miles but barely made it - felt heavy-legged and tired. Hope this passes as I'm feeling a bit of a fraud on this thread at the moment ....

peachsmuggler · 26/05/2011 18:30

Wheely and Paws, have just PMd you for FB details and will hopefully find the others from there. Feels a bit odd to "out" one's RL self, but this is a nice little corner of MN Smile You must all promise to forgive my doofus status updates Blush

paws, am sure your DS's concert will be lovely and will make you very proud.

Wheely, yes I also hate running with others who are always inevitably faster. Good for the fitness, bad for the ego Grin

hope you don't get washed away tonight DrNo, we have just been pounded by hailstones!

peachsmuggler · 26/05/2011 18:33

Oh yeah, and PM me, anyone who wants my FB details.

Sending lots of positive vibes for you tomorrow Driving.

drivingmisscrazy · 26/05/2011 20:18

thanks so much peach - it feels very final, somehow. Will be glad when that call is over, and hope that it's early in the morning...I've not run this week - DD's dad has been here and there's been too much going on. But hoping to get out tomorrow...

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 26/05/2011 20:24

Hope you get good news tomorrow, driving x

I'd like to jump on the FB bandwagon, too - I'm a little bit addicted to FB, I'm afraid... Hmm

MoshiMoshi · 26/05/2011 20:53

Hoping the news tomorrow is good misscrazy.

squix · 26/05/2011 21:06

peach and wheely I know what you mean about running with others - I have mixed feelings about it - I always worry about holding up someone who is faster than me, but I also enjoy being streched by running with faster runners.

DrNo - good for you - I'm planning on volunteering to do some marshalling too, my experiences at the weekend showed me how important it is and that we couldn't enjoy races without the marshalls and volunteers.

Hmm facebook - I have profile but never use it - you guys might just tip me over into using it. I always think I'm too old for facebook then see that my dad is using it so maybe I should give it more of a go.

Driving - thinking of you and your DP for tomorrow. I do hope you get good news and that you are able to relax a little over the weekend. Sending strength and resiliance to you both as well as re-enforcing peach's positive vibes.

sfxmum · 26/05/2011 21:10

thinking of you and your family driving

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 21:32

Well I am back and I survived! It was a bit bleak where I was stood, and I felt a bit of a fraud stood there clapping on elite runners. I came into my own half way in when folk were struggling, it was a huge hill upto where I was stood, then a nice long down hill. Quite a few were asking me how long was left and I had to tell them half way........anyway, 2 old dears were at the back and they were 64 and 66 and they looked amazing. I want to be just like them Smile

driving Everything crossed here for you and your family tomorrow. Hope the power of positive thoughts will help somehow. xx

drivingmisscrazy · 26/05/2011 21:35

DrNo I want to be like those old biddies too (to the eternal dying shame of my children :))

June2009 · 26/05/2011 21:36

the thread is moving on quick,
driving thinking of you for tomorrow.

Got some running tights today and a bum bag for phone and keys, and a small water bottle, I'm going to try the whole gear on together on saturday for a 45 minutes run.

Thanks for the suggestions of looking up plans for 10k run on the net, I looked up a few and made my own plan, so rest tomorrow, run 45mns saturday, rest sunday, 1 hour personal training monday, rest Tuesday and race wednesday.
Hopefully I am not about to find out how much harder rain makes it!

How do you get people to sponsor you? Do you just ask everyone you know everytime you do an event? I set up a page for this one. I organised a walk for charity about a month ago, I wouldn't want people/friends to start getting annoyed.

peachsmuggler · 26/05/2011 22:00

Did anyone watch The Human Body tonight? Was a woman on it running the Badwater Ultramarathon (DP couldn't believe such a thing existed!) and also a remarkable 100 year old woman who did yoga every morning. Incentive enough for me to keep the yoga up, she looked in amazing shape!

DebiTheScot · 26/05/2011 22:03

What's a foam roller and an IT band?

Those of you with road bikes, how much faster do you go with it? I'm struggling to get my average above 15mph on my mountain bike with hybrid tyres (although I swear every time I looked at the speedo on my cycle last might I was doing between 16 and 18 but slowing for junctions etc seems to affect the average more than a fast section) but would love to get it up to more like 18mph.

I'm on fb but I don't know if I've been here long enough to know you all yet Grin

MrsWednesday · 26/05/2011 22:13

Everything crossed for tomorrow Driving, thinking of you and your DP and sending lots of positive vibes.

DrNo, I'd recommend the Marathon Talk podcast, suitably running-geeky and often very inspiring. I listen to it when I run home from work because I get bored running the same route all the time and need something to take my mind of it. Hope the twinges are nothing serious (and yes, I think having something hurting all the time is mandatory for runners...)

Thecoo, same here, I do a lot of social media stuff in my job too, so I have a strange collection of fan pages, likes etc on my FB page. Glad to have the opportunity to have something that's relevant to me rather than work on there!

No running yet for me, I am still 'resting' this week but will go for a short one at the weekend, as well as resuming pilates. I need to do something though, I'm eating sooooooooooo much, I just can't get full!

Moshi, with 4 children I think a nanny/housekeeper sounds like a brilliant idea! I have a cleaner and I'm not sure what I'd do without her (apart from live in squalor).

backwardpossom · 26/05/2011 22:16

I've just added loads of you on FB, hope that's ok :)

MrsWednesday · 26/05/2011 22:20

Fine by me! I am inspired by your lovely running photo, might do the same for my profile picture.

Foam roller and some exercises here:

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 27/05/2011 07:19

Thinking of you and your dp today driving

Another vote here for Marathon Talk, I love it.

Foam rollers are great but can be really painful to use. I have a love, hate relationship with mine!!
