Am interested in body balance classes -from September, when dd2 starts nursery, I could still put her in the creche at my gym for an hour on a tuesday before her swimming lesson and do body balance.... it would cost me nothing as its all part of my membership (until Christmas). But feel a bit of guilt at the thought of putting her in on top of 3x nursery mornings.... but she loves creche and am sure she'll love nursery adn we need to be at the gym anyway for her lesson (tries to justify it).

sfxmum · 25/05/2011 15:30

hello

run today was ok, route was disrupted by tree cutting so went on pavement longer than usual, back to gym tomorrow with Hi/Lo and Boxercise HmmI am very uncoordinated so it is a challenge but it is 2for1 so I am in
-must get to proper 10k fitness (and lose the extra stone)

re FB am on mrW page initials CL if anyone wants to click

Goldberry · 25/05/2011 17:26

Driving - all the best of luck for Friday. I had similar odds with ds and had the cvs. All was fine. Hope it is for you too.
I went to my first bodybalance class on Monday, coincidentally. It was quite hard and I ached all over the day after. Though that may have had something to do with this lurgy I seem to have, on and off. Recurring sore throats every couple of months, this time with fever, aches and tiredness. Was wondering if it could be tonsillitis - didn't someone mention tonsillitis upthread? Will go and have a look. Wondering if I need to see the doc or just ride it out. No running though Sad.

thecoo · 25/05/2011 17:27

Just spent FOREVER catching up on posts - I missed a few days and then you all seem to write new ones as fast as I'm reading the old ones...

Really enjoyed reading the race reports - well done to all of you!

drivingmiss so sorry you're having to go through all that - it's so hard to think about how to deal with stuff when you don't even know what the results are going to be. I really hope it all turns out well for you both.

moshi, badger and drno - sorry to hear about the injuries. I'm just starting to get up off the injury bench myself. My ice pack and Voltarol gel are my new best mates. Physio allowed me to go for a slow 20 minute jog on Friday, which went fine, and have run slow 30 minutes twice since then with no problems too. She says I need to be very careful and build up very slowly though, so it's not looking good for my race at the end of June... And I've already lost so much fitness - I was panting like mad on my 30 minute jog today and wasn't going at all fast!

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/05/2011 17:56

Driving, what a terribly tough time to go through. It's little consolation but with ds3 we also had a 1:10 result for Down's syndrome. I couldn't have a CVS or amnio because we were living in the back of beyond. I had to wait til we returned to the UK quite some weeks later and had a detailed scan. It was a tough time and I think I rather blanked it all out and refused to face the reality of either situation. Luckily for us it all went in our favour, but I think you are both being incredibly brave.

I hope you do get the chance for a run, I'm sure it'll help get rid of some tension.

How can I find you all on FB? I do feel like I have known some of you now for aaaaaaages. Grin

10k tonight after work and there is a hint of shin splints, what to do???

DrNortherner · 25/05/2011 18:56

master not teh dreaded shin splints........oh no. I have a touch of shin pain too at the mo, but went for 3 miles tonight and it eased it. It also loosened up my tight calf. Think I am getting jittery and noticing every twinge. Shin splints can be nasty, however, I just toned down my mileage but didn't stop, and seemed to get through it. Tis a common injury when one is upping the mileage. I think plyometrics have helped me - hopping, jumping etc. Only you know just how painful they are. If pain when walking, don't run is a rule that generally works for me.

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/05/2011 19:04

I think it was because I only ran on one side of the road so had the same slight camber all the way. Smile I've got a long run on Sat so I think I'll just do a gentle 6k on Friday and keep my fingers crossed.

pawsnclaws · 25/05/2011 19:07

Hi all, hope you're all doing OK - have just caught up with some posts and it took ages!

Finally got my car back today and a new bank card thank goodness.

Long run tomorrow hopefully, feeling a little jaded and tired at the minute so I'm planning to take it slow and try and enjoy it. I've had a lingering sore throat and am not feeling at my best.

driving - hope you and your DP are doing OK. I know it's hard but try not to think too much about all the possibilities, it's guaranteed to drive you mad. I had to wait nearly two weeks for my MRI with ds1 and it was just awful - I just sat in the chair numbed by it all, thinking "I'm 34 weeks pregnant - how the hell did this nightmare happen?"

Strangely enough, even though I am strongly pro-choice I decided in that two weeks against a termination. I feel sad even talking about it now, with ds1 sat up in bed reading, that it could have been so very different for us. But no-one knows how it feels until you have to make that choice and none of us have the right to judge. We were incredibly lucky that he beat the odds, which in our case were 50/50. Try and stay busy until Friday and we'll all be glued to MN waiting for news. If it's any help, I have a good friend who was helped a great deal by ARC (Ante-Natal Results and Choices) when her baby was diagnosed with DS some years ago.

I hope I haven't said anything awful or that is upsetting to anyone, I do tend to have foot in mouth syndrome but it's well meant .

pawsnclaws · 25/05/2011 19:08

Oh yes and second the facebook query - would be lovely to be friends with you all in another cyber-reality type situation!

sfxmum · 25/05/2011 19:15

re FB I think mrsW has been the gateway or PI

DrNortherner · 25/05/2011 19:31

I am on Mrs Weds page too, and Moshis and the masters, initials DD if anyone wants to add me Smile

drivingmisscrazy · 25/05/2011 19:37

paws - you haven't said anything awful at all, I think that these things can only ever be a personal decision, as you say. I think the waiting is the worst, especially as we are so clear as to what we will do. I am trying to find comfort in the numbers, but also realise that these can work both ways.

I'm on for the fb thing too: I am dubhroisin with the additional draw that you will be able to access my running log and see how slow dedicated I am

(DP and I share a page - weird I know, but there were good reasons for it at the time - and no-one in rl knows about what we are going through at the moment - again, on the grounds that there was no point worrying our families if things turn out OK, and that Friday was soon enough to tell them if they don't. DP's mum and sisters will be gutted)

MoshiMoshi · 25/05/2011 21:23

DrNo and master - if your shin splints are anything like mine (inside of leg) then it is probably to do with tight calf muscles which is why they ease off when running as your muscles lengthen when warmed up. Obvious way to deal with them is to do plenty of stretching of calves whenever you can and especially when warmed up. Like I do. Ha ha ha.

paws - am WER or WR on FB and connected with DrNo, MrsWeds, wheely and master. I shall look out for you misscrazy. Tis fun to be connected elsewhere with photographic evidence of exploits.

MoshiMoshi · 25/05/2011 21:26
TheChewyToffeeMum · 25/05/2011 21:27

What a difficult situation driving - as you said earlier the numbers may be in your favour but that is little comfort in the wee small hours when you are awake worrying about the what-ifs. Fingers crossed it will all turn out ok.

I did a fast (for me!) 5 miler in the rain this evening. I am definitely finding that concentrating on increasing leg cadence is increasing my speed generally and much easier to sustain than my previous attempts at going faster.

shhh master don't say shin splints. I was plagued by these when I first started running. I found a kids freezer ice pack (Mr Bump) very soothing.

MoshiMoshi · 25/05/2011 21:28
MoshiMoshi · 25/05/2011 21:29

Second chewytoffee's suggestion of using ice on shins. Also using the ice in old yoghurt pot trick to reduce any inflammation on shins.

futurity · 25/05/2011 21:39

Just catching up ...would love to see people's photos/blogs regarding running but not sure how to go about it?!

Did 10 miles again on Tuesday and was better than last week...stuck to a steady slow pace and it meant I managed to maintain it for the whole run. Next week 11 miles and then that is it before the half.

Got my road bike today...much fun in riding it...scary but speedy. I think I will ache tomorrow!

pawsnclaws · 25/05/2011 22:19
YeahThatsTheBadger · 25/05/2011 23:03

I can't find MrsWed on fb. The rest of you are obviously better at this stuff. Smile

Well, despite the aches and pains I've decided to sign up for the 10k in early October. I'm thinking that it's the motivation I need. If the pains are still there then next few times I go out for a run (and it's only sore when I run) then I might look for a physio for help.

peachsmuggler · 25/05/2011 23:16

Sorry, been hopeless this week and this is just me getting round to congratulating MrsWeds and possum for Sunday! Well done ladies, great times! Have been loving all the race reports from the weekend, very emotional and inspiring. Bet you're glad you weren't running on Monday, you'd have been blown into the Forth!!

DrNo, well done on kicking some boys asses, you should be shouting your achievements from the rooftops!

Well managed a little run for the first time in almost 4 weeks today. Was only 2 miles with final last gasp to the ice lolly shop but felt good to be out there again.

Driving, my thoughts are never far from you and your DP. Hope your lovely DD is helping you take your mind off things. Keep remembering your odds are much better than good. Am keeping everything crossed for you.

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 07:46

Morning All

I have just accepted a friend request from SG - who are you on here?

I used my foam roller last night and need to remember to do it more often. Despite hitting the ceiling when I rolled my IT band my legs felt amazing afterwards. If you guys don't have a roller - get one!

pawsnclaws · 26/05/2011 08:02

DrN - is me!

sfxmum · 26/05/2011 10:30

trainer off sick, no gymSad guess it will be revising for me, raining and windy out
am getting confused about who is who on the other side, need crib sheet

any races this weekend? must check

MoshiMoshi · 26/05/2011 11:12

Heh heh. Is fun getting in touch on The Other Side but agree withsfx it's confusing. Will remember eventually. Is good to see the photographic side of things!

+1 for the foam roller. Everyone should try get one for at home. It stretches everything out beautifully and can be used on IT bands as well as glutes and backs to ease aches and pains.

A bit of Bootcamp (minus running) in the wind and drizzle.

Have gone all bourgeois and am trialling a nanny/housekeeper to help out at home. She seems good so far Smile
