hello all

orm that is good news keep going hope it is all improving

re breastfeeding I kept it up until dd was over 2yr old so did some running while feeding, as I recall from reading the milk isn't really affected unless you are training quite intensively, athlete like, otherwise is is just a case of strapping those puppies in place and head out.

I used to run on the treadmill at the gym as part of general workout but
Running only came into being after I had dd at 36, it was invaluable in lifting my mood (bad PND) and it still is, plus it is time effective
I will never be fast or run long distances but it is something I don't want to do without

so still doing my thing regularly which is quite wonderfulSmile
happy running

Themasterandmargaritas · 14/09/2010 19:01

Well done Orm. Smile I'm sorry I didn't make it to you last month, no time, no time. How is the new house and more importantly where is it? Wink

I'm also a late to running addict. I was averagely sporty at school in all teams, pretty good at cross country etc but I never followed it up at Uni. Late twenties saw me do regular aerobics/tennis but I only took up running when arriving here in Kenya 2.5 years ago. Four half marathons later I am rather addicted.

popsycal · 14/09/2010 19:21

SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU chuckle
apologies over typing....feeding ds3

I got strangely excited a few weeks ago when I iscovered Haile Gebrselassie was doing the GNR and told ds1 and ds2 about him...

Then over the weekend, ds2 has been asking me to help him to say his name

anyway
ds2's teacher came up to me today to tell me that ds2 had told his class that his mum was 'versing' Kylie Harrysalarry on sunday in the great north run and he thought that his mum might actually beat him as she was the bestest runner he know

:)

Themasterandmargaritas · 14/09/2010 19:42

Grin It is possible, he must be a Master by now.

Twink · 14/09/2010 22:23

Popsy, you're right, PMSL, that's so lovely!

hatwoman · 14/09/2010 22:29

international hockey...city lawyer...4 kids...are you superwoman moshi?

seaturtle · 15/09/2010 00:35

Popsy- I love it!

seaturtle · 15/09/2010 00:36

Reminds me of when my friend's then 2 year old was trying to join in with her 6 year old brother's footie conversation and told me she loved Christina Aldo (Cristiano Ronaldo).

popsycal · 15/09/2010 06:29

I could prpobably take on Kylie though!!

DS1 is more excited that Ant and Dec are starting the run off...:)

bouncingblueberries · 15/09/2010 10:37

thanks for the advice re breastfeeding and relaxin. doubt I'll manage much more than a plod around the park - that's if I can find a t-shirt to fit over my norks and belly that is!

HighFibreDiet · 15/09/2010 12:10

Lol popsycal Grin.

I remember reading one of ds1's exercise books from school when they were doing family. He wrote, 'Daddy is funny and Mummy is strong.' Grin

Feeling quite unfit at the moment but managed a short run yesterday while ds3 was at childminders. Really missing my jogging buggy which is in storage while we have the house done up. The jogging buggy makes it so much easier to fit in the jogging as well as all the mummy stuff. Yes I quite agree moshi must be superwoman! But also agree it makes a huge difference to have something to aim for.

I'm in Kingston at the moment, Wheelybug, only not for long... Moving to Sydney in January so might look out for a half marathon there :) But will probably also have to sell my racing bike before moving even though I've only just bought it :(

MoshiMoshi · 15/09/2010 14:23

hat and highfibre - I am definitely not a superwoman. My right knee has started hurting when I run - it started at last night's hockey training - and I am clueless as to what it could be as it doesn't come within the usual range of injuries which I am familiar with... Anyone know what it means to have sharp pain on the inner side of the knee cap?

popsy - I love it that your sons know you are racing the great Gebrselassie! Lots of luck for Sunday.

Speaking of running addiction, DH thinks I am obsessive and is getting all grumbly when I go out for a run/race. Am trying to arrange childcare for times I am away during the weekends so ge us not encumbered by kids but wondered if you had any tips for what else to do? It almost feels as if (and this probably sounds silly but I don't know how else to explain it) he is a bit jealous. I don't want my hobbies to be a cause of disagreement between us but can see he is not entirely supportive.

Wow Moshi - you are superwoman. DIdn't realise you were city lawyer and had 4 kids and manage to do all that. I'm just a SAHM with 2 kids and a dh who's a city lawyer and I don't do half that (hangs head in shame Grin). Do you ever sleep ?

Anyway, came on here to see - get thee to Lidl if you can - they have cheapo running stuff (long sleeve tops, short sleeve tops and tights - £5-7). I have new stuff.

Good luck beating Gebrselassie POpsy - you can do it Grin.

Finally did 10K again this morning in the gym since pre-hols so feeling a bit better about the running malarky.

peachsmuggler · 16/09/2010 17:19

Moshi, that sounds difficult. Does your DH have hobbies too? Does he understand how much running means to you? Thinking maybe if he did he might be more supportive? It could be that he is jealous that you have found something outwith the family that inspires you and takes you away from them, but not really sure how you can get round that. Maybe ask him and if he acknowledged that that was how he felt he might be able to deal with it better.

First run today in ages. Only 5k. Feel quite unfit. Am in Scotland at the moment, staying with family, so hoping to get out a bit this week.

Good luck Popsy (and Kylie!), this Sunday!!

MoshiMoshi · 16/09/2010 17:42

Just measured my additional weekly mileage according to my Garmin to find the extra 8 miles a day is more like 10.2 a day, 3 of which are cycled. This translates into 40+ extra miles a week (thankfully DS has a lift on Mondays), 12 of which are cycled and 28 are buggy runs. My weekly mileage is around 50-60 miles. Hmmmm, so much for ramping it up slowly.

Happy injury free running everyone!

good luck popsy you might even get a pic of the great man, just watching him run should be a treat, lovely to see the faith in your abilities that your child shows Grin

moshi that is hard but managing a home with 4 young children means you really need your time 'not being mum' iyswim
I hope you can work something out in valuing each others needs, it is a challenge
things are much easier here since dh started running and found more sporting interests.

happy running

popsycal · 16/09/2010 21:06
