Yahooooooooo! Well done, Popsy. And to think you were thinking about pulling out of the race due to lack of training. Terrific result!

just did the GNR in 2 hr 24 - only started running in december so am very proud of myself! better not start slacking off now though - dh wants to do another half marathon next month - sigh

MoshiMoshi · 19/09/2010 22:35

That's fantastic, sanfairy! Gosh, you have really progressed. Which half do you think you might do next?

popsy - v jealous you ran with the Chuckle brothers. They have iconic status in our house!

Well done, popsy and sanfairyann.

MoshiMoshi · 20/09/2010 07:58

Did I ever mention that the F35-39 who came 3rd at my last race turned out to be more like a M40-44? Very annoyed that he obviously took the race number of his wife/girlfriend/friend and pushed me out of a medal place... Not that I am festering over it if course Wink... Still it does remind you why it isn't necessarily without consequence when you take the race nbwr of someone registered to run who drops out.

Knee still sore so may try see the physio this week. Happy running all!

sanfairy well done fantastic progress

I am off to my little morning jog but inspired

Goldberry · 20/09/2010 12:39

Wow - well done sanfairyann and popsy! I'm just hoping to make it through my 10k on Sunday. Had some calf pain after my last run - hoping it's nothing sinister!

Wheelybug · 20/09/2010 14:06

oh well done Sanfairy !! What an achievement.

I want to do it now (again - I think this every autumn...) so will apply for hte ballot again next year.

Last week ran 2x 10K and 1x 6K so feeling very much better about my 10K in 2 weeks. Although, I almost lost my lunch yesterday during my 10K and had to walk for 3 mins to get my stomach back in order ! I am hoping it was just running too soon after going to pizza express !! Was sort of pleased though as I did under 58 mins including the 3 min walk so fingers crossed should make my goal of sub 1hr.

Good luck for the w/e Goldberry - you'll be fine ! I often get calf pain - mine is usally caused by not stretching enough.

Themasterandmargaritas · 20/09/2010 15:21

Oh good effort sanfairy and popsy, well done you guys.

Good luck goldberry.

I'm on for a half on 31st October. But my knee has started to twinge a bit. I managed 15k yesterday in 1.25 but am hoping the knee thing goes away, it hasn't bothered me for ages. Should I just do some short distances for the next week do you think?

hatwoman · 20/09/2010 16:54

well done sanfairy and good luck goldberry for the weekend. I've just done my last long run before my 20 miler on the 3rd. I just did 18 (with a shed load of hills) and I'm absolutely rooted. after the race I'm not going to do longer distance again, it's too much. I'm looking forward to allowing the pressure to ease off a bit and to go out for sheer enjoyment.

MoshiMoshi · 20/09/2010 20:13

master - definitely drip the distances right down to see whether the pain eases off and just do short runs to keep yourself ticking over. Often it is a sign of too much too soon. My knee pain was referred pain resulting from my weak glutes so I am meant to be doing plenty of strengthening exercises to combat it. Hope it improves but if not it may be worth seeing if you can investigate the cause?

Right, it's official. I am doing the Paris Marathon on 11 April on the basis I won't get a ballot place in London. I may drop out of the Edinburgh Marathon six weeks later if I feel like it might jeopardise my chance at giving the HIM at Wimbleball enough welly. Am looking at various training schedules as would like to keep the training focused. Am guessing duathlons are the way forwards over winter time and a good way to avoid overuse injuries from too much running while maintaining fitness. Twink - did you look into tri schedules much when preparing for yours?

MoshiMoshi · 20/09/2010 20:15

wheely - glad you are feeling more optimistic! You will be fine and I suspect may surprise yourself with your 10K by the sounds of things!

Well done to everyone that ran GNR!

Finally made it out for a run on Sunday morning - yippee! only managed twice round the park before I started panicking about ds2 surviving without me but at least I made it out. And it felt amazing!

Can't wait til next next weekend so I can run again Grin

MrsWednesday · 21/09/2010 12:34

Fantastic times Popsy and Sanfairyann - I was thinking of you both on Sunday (with a bit of envy, I have to say!)

Shame you didn't quite manage to beat Kylie - can't believe he ran a half marathon in 59 minutes, I don't think I could sprint at that pace at all, never mind for 13 miles.

Have been out plodding a bit here and there, got the Bradford half coming up on 17th October so am trying to keep putting in the miles.

Moshi, my DH can be a bit arsey about the time my running takes up - it's a difficult one because it is time consuming and takes me away from the family (and I work virtually full time, including travelling away occasionally) but if I didn't do it I'd go mad and he would suffer accordingly. Tough one to negotiate really.

Happy injury-free running everyone, good luck to those with races coming up.

hatwoman · 21/09/2010 12:47

latest from my Italian co-runner: apparently he's only just started training; he's using the 20-miler to "test his condition"; and he's doing a marathon the following week.

Wheelybug · 21/09/2010 13:27

Ah well Hatwoman - surely a twenty miler is just a walk in the park ([shocked]). No pressure then Grin.

Well done for getting out Blueberries !!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a book for DH on running which deals well with nutrition and running.

He doesn't eat enough/the right things and partly because of his condition, suffers terribly with fatigue after running and I think if he addressed his diet it might help (he doesn't eat unhealthily at all - but his metabolism works in a wierd way in how it burns fat - can't remember exactly what it is but I think he burns fat before anything else (Envy).
