Part 10 of our long running thread.
I'm still putting my money on a spring GE.
The tory slash and burn of the UK is right on track.
Bon chance my friends!

I had a notification today - the Parliamentary petition asking for an inquiry into the Brexit impact will be debated on the 24th of April. I may crack out the popcorn for that one.

Pretty certain I am washing my hair that day. Now I'm worried it will come out white.

Rishis NI Bill passes 515-29

Pretty emphatic, and isolates any headbanger Brexiteers totally.

Obviously the DUP won't resume Stormont. But then they never were, so that's not news.

The real news is that only 29 MPs could be found to "stand up for Brexit" and vote with Boris (not had a chance yet to see who voted against. It would totally not surprise me to discover Boris "forgot to vote").

He had to vote. He wouldn’t have had an excuse for breaking up his evidence to the inquiry this afternoon.

HannibalHeyes · 24/03/2023 21:28

Vote Leave trying to hide the fact that they've basically admitted that they broke the legal spending limits.

But basically fraud in a referendum results in a fine. The fact that they've fucked the country up by their fraud is obviously insignificant...

The News Agents were very scathing about Boris. Which I'm sure marks them out as terrible UnBeLeavers Grin

The sight of the usual tory QT audience failing to back Boris (in an ironic echo of Boris being the only person recently to put his hand up to "back Brexit") is a thing of beauty.

Even Fiona Bruces rather unguarded admission they'd deliberately stuffed it with Tory voters failed to move a heart. Or hand.

My view - repeated wherever it can be left for Google to analyse - has been that the cheque that paid for Brexit was a dud. If it's now bouncing, it should surprise no one.

Covid has done far more damage to the country and the world than brexit. It's a flea bite in comparison

It's also total bullshit...

verdantverdure · 25/03/2023 12:45

That's not true though is it @purpledalmation?

Arguably we did have one of the most damaging covid management schemes on the planet which veered dementedly between "Let It Spread" and "Lockdown" but because Brexit came into effect at the same time as Covid nobody can really disentangle the two.

Three years after the Brexit bongs and the first U.K. death from Covid long term sickness from Long Covid is still a drag on our economy, but the reason why most other comparable countries have regained their pre covid economic positions and we haven't...Is Brexit.

And the Brexit damage continues until we reverse it.

pointythings · 25/03/2023 13:46

Well said, @verdantverdure . It's time the Brexiters stopped hiding behind Covid.

Obviously in lost lives yes but in terms of economic impact... a resounding no!

Brexit effects every aspect of trade, sport, culture, travel/holidays and is very expensive.

Take sport, pro cycling, no longer can an aspiring racer move to the continent and ride for a French or Dutch amateur team (essential to get a pro contract) he/she is restricted to 90 days, so no more Bradley Wiggins, Lizzie Armisted or Mark Cavendish's... small fry maybe but whats the gain?
Same with musicians, can't easily or cheaply perform in Europe.

Covid will work its way through the economy quickly... as it is doing but Brexit will last for decades, we can't even match the EU on inflation now and that impacts on gilts and govt borrowing and us!!!

DuncinToffee · 26/03/2023 11:45

Flea bite

On Laura Kuensberg this morning she asked the head of the OBR Richard Hughes, what the effect of leaving the EU has on our economy.

In the long run Brexit reduces our overall output by around 4%

Asked for a feel on that, after struggling to give a real world example, he said:

"of an order of magnitude similar to pandemic effects"

DuncinToffee · 26/03/2023 11:51

Presumably that's fucked up honey exports as well as things that contain honey. Way to go.

verdantverdure · 26/03/2023 14:08

Wasn't Tate and Lyle a big supporter of Brexit?

I wonder if it's their sugar syrup adulterating UK "honey".

If anyone wants to get the current government to drop their obsession with "AI" then just ask Bard about Brexit

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/03/26/left-wing-google-ai-bot-thinks-brexit-bad-idea/

Of course what is really happening is that Bard - as the Large Language Learning Model it is - is synthesising it's training data into the most qualitatively valid response. A parameter that is autonomously generated once the model has been left to run free.

I've already shown that ChatGPT can write pitch perfect Boris articles.

‘Left-wing’ Google AI bot thinks Brexit was ‘bad idea’

Artificial intelligence chatbot Bard also shows some appreciation for Jeremy Corbyn

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/03/26/left-wing-google-ai-bot-thinks-brexit-bad-idea

Alexandra2001 · 26/03/2023 17:51

No one in their right mind would describe Google as "Left Wing"

More garbage from the Loony Right who perhaps need to start seeing Brexit for what it is.
