Oddly enough, I remember feeling the same way about Toby Blair after the dodgy Iraq dossier was revealed...and nothing happened to him. Not at once. Now? His legacy is absolute muck.

I would love to see Johnson drubbed out of Downing Street after just one term. Then again, I want the entire Tory party shrunk back to Lib Dem levels. It might give them an ounce of humility.

AdaHopper · 13/04/2022 15:17

This is how Boris Johnson is seen in Belgium.

The caption reads: 'what have you done with the fine..., oh, you made a party hat with it 🥳'.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 - BJ is great for showing the world that British Humour is alive and kicking.

Justice minister Lord Wolfson has resigned over “breaches of the criminal law in Downing St.”

From his resignation letter
“the scale, context and nature of those breaches mean that it would be inconsistent with the rule of law for that conduct to pass with constitutional impunity.”

Peregrina · 13/04/2022 18:36

At least one person with some integrity - even though as far as we know, he is not a guilty party.

Somebody in cabinet with a moral sense… amazing. Problem of course is that he leaves and the post is filled with a mate.

The Week in Tory

As some of you might expect, the latest banshee howl that is #TheWeekInTory is quite lengthy, and I advise a deep dive into your preferred sedative before beginning.

Let us begin where the last one ended, which is, astonishingly, a mere 5 days ago [queue wobbly screen]...🧵

You read all of those news items that Russ Jones lists in one place and just really really wonder what the hell we’ve done to deserve Johnson and his government of breathtaking incompetents. Nadine is really our British version of Marjorie Taylor Greene isn’t she?

pointythings · 14/04/2022 09:28

Nadine is really our British version of Marjorie Taylor Greene isn’t she?

I think MTG has marginally more brain cells. Nadine is more Lauren Boebert.

DrBlackbird · 14/04/2022 09:55

@pointythings a sensible reminder not to inflate the competence of our MP by a positive comparison…

Do we really think our government is going to deport asylum seekers back to Rwanda? Surely it’s a PR stunt to convince them not to come in the first place, but which will, of course, fail spectacularly. People smugglers are more clever than that.

pointythings · 14/04/2022 10:02

It's a publicity stunt to distract from the fallout of Partygate. But there's a thread about it and the usual suspects are on it, saying how great they think it is. I really despair at how many there are - it's no wonder the UK gets lumbered with endless shitty Tory governments. There seems to be something quite prevalent in the British psyche that hates foreigners, wants others to be worse off rather than wanting everyone to have enough and is generally awful as fuck. It's like the Russians always voting for 'strong men' and ending up with Putin.

DGRossetti · 14/04/2022 10:52

What historic links has Rwanda with the UK anyway ?

It's telling that no African country that has had any serious engagement with the UK stepped up.

I once spent a very edgy 15 minutes on the tarmac at Kigali airport in December 1993. When was the last time your plane was surrounded by armed soldiers ?

ChiswickFlo · 14/04/2022 12:55

The nazis wanted to send the Jews to Madagascar...

They came up with a cheaper plan in the end...

First they asked Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria.... finally when they got down to Rw someone said yes.

As long as it's really the government of Rwanda they've done the deal with, rather than some clever con artist.

You forgot the Ascension Islands Wink

DuncinToffee · 14/04/2022 13:48

You can just imagine the relief when someone finally said yes.

Pritti Awful thinking this up and going ‘it’s perfect’ is one thing. Regular folks applauding is a depressing other. It takes years to process applications. Will the UK govt build and maintain a hospital with suitable levels of healthcare in Rwanda? Pay for anti malaria meds? Build and pay to run schools? Same for appropriate accommodation? What happens if the country destabilises? What would a British judge say about this??

This will fall at the first hurdle surely?!

DuncinToffee · 14/04/2022 15:47

How is your mum doing Flo?

DGRossetti · 14/04/2022 15:51

What part of "one-way" are people struggling to understand ?

How is your mum doing Flo?
She's OK considering, thanks for asking x Although she's started coughing today...

Hmm yes on the one hand, there’s mention in the media of a ‘one-way flight by force with no option to claim UK asylum once they're gone’ after the nationality and borders bill completes its passage through parliament and criminalises those coming to the UK without authorisation.

Yet there’s also photos of the ‘lovely’ complexes in Rwanda where asylum seekers will be housed while their claims for uk asylum will be processed. If so, we’re back to additional issues around healthcare etc.

No need for schools though as apparently children won’t be sent. The idea still seems madness and unworkable.

So agree, I just cannot shake off my low mood at the moment & listening to that ejjit Johnson on the radio earlier spouting bollocks of “Taking back control” blah blah has finished me off today.
