I had never heard of the expression 'rum do' but it is indeed, especially as they are only moving to their house in west London.

ST reporting Javid also had a non dom status for tax purposes but he gave it up when he entered politics.

and Sunak now demands an inquiry into the 'leak'

Grin

one of DMs stock phrases. A beautiful example of English understatement, what ?

HannibalHeyes · 10/04/2022 11:55

Ah, yes. The problem was the leak. Not him and his wife avoiding paying tax in this country, no, not at all. How silly of me...

Tory Minister Kit Malthouse on #SundayMorning trying to paint Sunak and his wife as a couple who fell in love in California then simply forgot all about their global tax arrangements. 😂😂😂

“It’s a rum do” was a stock phrase in detective stories written from about 1920-1950, whenever the perpetrators got out of the bank vaults leaving no trace behind/knew the magnate would be dining in whichever establishment/no one had noticed anything at all out of the ordinary. I’m not sure when it fell out of favour, but it’s perfect for anything related to the activities of this Government.

Kit Malthouse is master of the implausible explanation, IIRC.

Hauliers want priority for perishable goods at Dover

Eventually everyone will have priority boarding ... everyone is special.

The UK can always follow the Shanghai lead

www.theregister.com/2022/04/11/lockedin_and_hungry_shanghai_residents/

The 25 million plus residents of the Chinese city of Shanghai are being warned not to spread rumors online or to complain about conditions during ongoing and strict COVID-19 lockdowns imposed since March 28.

...

remember that after the referendum there was some

DuncinToffee · 11/04/2022 19:44

This is magnificently gaga, even for the Express.

They've found a BREXIT BENEFIT: Warehousing is booming!

Apparently, firms sacrificing liquidity to hold larger stocks, because supply chains are untrustworthy, and passing those higher costs onto consumers is A GOOD THING.

I've been binge watching "the art that made us" on bbciplayer
It's brilliant tv
I really recommend it
If for nothing else to see how these Isles have benefitted from invasion/settlement/immigration since before the birth of Christ
It's so awful to realise what we have lost and will lose
James Hawes, who is a contributor, author and historian - and who predicted brexit in his 2005 novel speak for England - makes clear his less than optimistic view of the UKs future:(
Mostly though, it left me feeling what a stupid, pointless waste brexshit is
And wondering what in God's name will happen in the next 20/30 years

It is indeed all a bit of a rum do. Just been over to UK for first time in over two years. Our last call is normally to Waitrose to stock up for the way home. No cheese, no bacon, no pork pies allowed. No fruit or milk so we had to shop this morning. Frantically reading labels wondering if creamed horseradish is ok to bring back.
It is nothing in the great scheme of things and the horrors that people are facing, but it is so bloody petty and pointless.

Tories. Putting the "minor" in minor offences for years.

Mirror reporting that he was

taking along £60k vanity photographer
telling journalists in advance not to ask about financial situation
ducking questions when they do

Hilary did you go viia Dover?

As report on Dutch news:

  • Dutch truckers stuck for 27 hours in Kent 🇬🇧
  • Can't eat, drink, must urinate and defecate in their cabins
  • Get yelled at if they get out of their cabins
  • Police drive by shining in the cabins to make sure you're behind the wheels
DGRossetti · 12/04/2022 10:50

- Police drive by shining in the cabins to make sure you're behind the wheels

And then they go all cry baby when nobody likes them anymore.
