Hardly We've only got a quad bike Grin Mind you that tank could come in handy in all sorts of ways.

I think I am making a slightly different point. Empires expand and take in territory, and then populate them with their own people. Empires then contract and sometimes the boundaries are just lines drawn on maps with scant regard for the identity of the people who live there. The end result is messy - think NI and its border, India/Pakistan/Kashmir borders, Middle East borders.

Kremlin trolling Truss?

@prettybird

The point I think that many of us are making (and probably agreeing with each other, just putting it different ways Wink) is that internationally recognised borders are just that: internationally recognised Confused. It doesn't matter when they were recognised - and it's absolutely not up to one country to unilaterally decide that another country either (or both) doesn't have the right to exist or that it doesn't agree with its internationally recognised borders. Angry
Of course!

But the historically shifting nature of some borders is interesting. And does throw light on old perceived wrongs. Grudges, in the case of Putin.

HannibalHeyes · 28/02/2022 12:47

The Week In Tory for those of a "if we don't laugh..." mood.

DGRossetti · 28/02/2022 12:53

@prettybird

Italy didn't become a single state until the late 19th century (and even arguably not until after WW1) Hmm: does that mean it's not a straightforward country in terms of having fixed borders? Confused

I think Liz Truss defines the category of "other people" in the saying:

you wouldn't worry so much about what other people think of you when you realise how seldom they do

However if Putin starts releasing 5 official snapchats a day of him in a tank, in a fighter jet, moodily under some austre Soviet architecture, then we'll know they are at least seeing if not understanding her tweets.

Well, there goes the Welsh farming industry...

Peregrina · 28/02/2022 19:41

You might think with the problems in Ukraine that Johnson and chums would realise that Europe and the EU both matter, instead of pretending that what happens on the other side of the world is most important.

We have already heard of red tape being slashed - it hasn't happened yet, the opposite has. As for what opportunities NZ presents to the UK - I notice Trevelyan didn't say. I only hope that since 2035 is still a long way off, the Tories can be kicked out and this deal can be torn up.

Is this the equivalent of a good day to bury bad news? Never mind that the Welsh farmers will lose out, the Brexitshitter govt can say ‘oh look we’ve signed another brilliant trade deal’.

God, is this the most unredeemably worse cabinet ever?

DGRossetti · 03/03/2022 14:05

Remember the OneWeb farce ? I bet Brexiteers hope you don't.

www.theregister.com/2022/03/03/oneweb_roscosmos/

That's a few more billions spaffed in the name of Brexit.

Peregrina · 03/03/2022 15:30

Now that the EU appears to have stepped up with regards to Ukraine, and Bozo isn't the one heading any talks, I wonder if he's regretting being on the side of Brexit?

prettybird · 03/03/2022 15:37

But you are mistaken @Peregrina Wink

According to BJ and Truss et al, the UK is leading the world in its calls for sanctions and in stopping the broadcasting of RT Confused

HannibalHeyes · 03/03/2022 16:50

Jesus wept! The way this lot throw the phrases "World beating", "Leading the World" etc. repeatedly is just absolutely bonkers! Are there honestly people so jeffing stupid that they believe this nonsense?

In other news are on the money as usual...

DGRossetti · 03/03/2022 17:02

@prettybird

But you are mistaken *@Peregrina* Wink

The UK had fuck all say in silencing RT. The reason RT went dark is they are based in an EU country and EU regulations shut them down.

And I think there's been some lexical confusion here.

Boris and Truss actually said "the UK is mis leading the world over Ukraine". Which is totally true.

prettybird · 03/03/2022 17:06

@DGRossetti - I know that but was being facetious about Truss and Dorries' claims.

The easiest - and quickest - way is to know that in any more than 4 words either of them says, there will be a lie. Job done. You'd get more sense and truth if you threw darts at a dictionary.

Is it very wrong of me that my first thought is 'who's he got the dirt on?' because there's no way he got it for competence
DuncinToffee · 03/03/2022 19:03

Doesn't everybody think that?
