Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

@pointythings

When the gammons first started kicking off against the RNLI, I set up a monthly direct debit. Fuck the lot of them, these are real human beings in distress we're talking about.

Also place cat king.

Now...THAT is a very good idea 💡 Thank you 😊

Was listening to the news on the radio earlier, one item after another of the failings of this government wondering if finally it maybe catching up with them? Probably living in cloud cuckoo land I know but I’m desperately trying to hang onto last vestige of hope.
Beautiful pictures posted upthread.

I keep thinking that but...they seem like Teflon atm

I still predict an early election though - with the current venal, nonentities who have ruined this country to line theirs and their friends pockets walking off humming happily like fucking Cameron 🤬

Given the [[https://twitter.com/ITVNewsPolitics/status/1468284168912183310?s=20 Cheese and wine non party]] and the Afghanistan dog rescue leaks it feels like serious skids are being put under de pfeffel - watch out for the apologists changing their tune on here? Grin
Animals before humans

Astounding testimony being heard at @CommonsForeign today.

As Kabul began to fall, the PM, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary, the Permanent Under Secretary at the Home Office, the National Security Advisor & the PUS at the MoD were all on holiday at the same time.

Opal8 · 07/12/2021 20:22

I suppose the timing of the party-that-wasnt-party-and-really-didnt-happen leak is interesting?

After his utterly embarrassing and disastrous speech at the CBI maybe tory HQ themselves are leaking stuff?

I imagine there were some very unhappy business donors after that clusterfuck...

I am hoping and praying that the Tories lose next week's by election - although it's a very very tall order. They won't be able to blame HS2, they might be able to blame Jenrick's planning laws, but they will certainly be able to blame Johnson.

Opal8 · 07/12/2021 20:55

It's clear that the Tories were watching Trump and the GOP very closely.

Caught out lying? Fake news

Video proof? Fake news

Corroborated evidence? Fake news

We truly live in a post truth society...

Thanks OP for starting this alternative thread. Glad I managed to find it.

The RNLI idea is a great one which I shall follow up - have been meaning to donate for a long time but pointythings post has given me the impetus to do something about it.

I am really hoping that a poster will come along and post a thoughtful, well researched argument forward for Brexit, it exists, so why do Brexiteers refuse to use it?

I bet they are all shitting themselves wondering if a video of the party which was just a business meeting will emerge. These days with smart phones it's so easy.......

They can - and will - do whatever they want

You say that, but Hancock and Patterson had to resign.
Opal8 · 07/12/2021 22:27

I do wonder - sometimes - whether those who voted for De Pfeffle because "he is funny" "he isnt a stuffed shirt" "he'll be a laugh if nothing else.." (yep, I heard all of these as reasons for voting tory in 2019) still feel quite so happy now that funny man De Pfeffle has been in charge during the biggest crisis since WW2.
Hmmm?...
Not so funny now is it?

@jgw1

Yes...but only after being totally supported by De Pfeffle and - in Pattersons case - trying to overturn the HofC own rules.

And I'd wager they only resigned because they donors started shouting - loudly and the 1922 committee got antsy.

They do not give a rats ass about us plebs - including the plebs that voted for them.

If the big tory party donors hadn't had an issue with the optics both would still be in their job.

@jgw1 - you probably come the closest with your piss taking satirical posts Confused

Louise used to manage to give a different perspective, although could never articulate what would actually be better (or why it couldn't be done while we were still in the EU) but seems to have taken the Kool-aid Sad

I actually find the lack of empathy, sensitivity and understanding towards the poor, the vulnerable, the underprivileged of whatever nationality quite sickening shocking Shock

Peregrina · 07/12/2021 22:53

Not so funny now is it?

It will be still, until it affects them personally.

I hope none of them need hospital or gp care, or adult social care, or mh care, or a decent education for their dc/dgc, or even to be able to purchase simple otc medications...or want full shelves of food in the shops...

A Spanish hospital in Malaga now has 70 itu staff Isolating after catching the Omicron variant at their Xmas party...they are bringing in staff from other districts.

That would shut the hospital in question here.

There is just NO wiggle room in the nhs anymore. It would be catastrophic. EU staff have left, EU carers have left...beds blocked by clinically well elderly who cannot because home as they have no care package..
I got chatting to a woman whose dh had been in hospital for 6 weeks waiting for discharge....no carers available.

People just have no clue how bad it really is now ...

I know so many people who have died in the last year...delayed diagnosis, poor palliative care, 4/6 hour waits for ambulances, no home visits available...if you haven't experienced it you would not believe how poor health care is now.

And it'll get worse when seasonal flu hits.
