Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

@DuncinToffee

Allegra Stratton has resigned
There’s a surprise… Or, is it? Maybe it is a surprise in these days of ‘so what I was caught, F you plebs’ that seems the norm.
Opal8 · 08/12/2021 16:29

Sadly, even tory supporters will have lost loved ones, not visited them, been denied a last family Xmas...they will - rightly - be furious and upset.
This is something that even affects rich tories unlike most of their policies/actions.

His ERG backers wont support him bringing in plan B, right now he needs their backing more than ever.

What did you think of Starmer in PMQs today? i thought he did quite well against a rather panicked Bojo.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2021 17:00

This party story has really gripped the press ... I wonder what it's burying?

If this is what they're using to bury something else, they must be pretty desperate.

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 17:01

I think his legal training showed today

@Opal8

I think his legal training showed today
I missed PMQs.

Did Boris explicitly state there had not been a party?

If he did, then when further evidence appears of the parties he will be under massively more pressure having misled parliament - usually a resigning matter.

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 17:19

I can't remember Starmers exact phrasing but he basically made De Pfeffle deny there were any parties held (we already know the DofE held one!)

If (when?) Footage of said party emerges De pfeffle will be held in contempt for misleading the hpuse - for what that's worth.

They were held in contempt for illegally proroguing parliament...nothing happened. Their supporters didn't care. As I said earlier...this is something that will upset and anger their own supporters...in the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty woman...
"BIG mistake....HUGE!"

DuncinToffee · 08/12/2021 17:21

He didn't. He kept waffling about being assured there wasn't a party and if there was one, no rules were broken blah blah blah. He 'apologised' for the video.

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 17:23

Will he comb his hair?

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 17:32

He needs a bit of hair laquer and a soul that's for sure

Re: plan b restrictions...
Will that include travel restrictions over Xmas from Europe?
Just seems to be masks, wfh and vaccine passports?

God knows what's happening. Half the time we don't know what's the law and what is just guidance. Boris Johnson is reported to be angry about the party - angry that he and his chums have got found out, more like.

Let's work on the assumption that Boris is angry that those at the party were taking the mickey out of the country. The question is who sets the standards and expectations in their place of work, who employed them. That person needs to accept responsibility and resign.
DrBlackbird · 08/12/2021 18:15

Surely Johnson must be getting tired of having to take questions with explicit or implicit criticism of him and his leadership? His skin is so paper thin.

DuncinToffee · 08/12/2021 18:15

NEW measures in England:
-Guidance to work from home
-From Friday masks required in most indoor settings
-Covid pass mandatory for nightclubs and large venues (or neg lateral flow) from a week today
-Daily tests for contacts instead of isolation

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 18:16

Well..
That was expected I suppose
Let's hope Omicron does not multiply in the rates suggested

prettybird · 08/12/2021 18:23

So essentially, "Plan B" is England falling into line with the rest of the UK. Wink

DuncinToffee · 08/12/2021 18:28

Yes indeed Grin

Got my booster booked for next week.

Opal8 · 08/12/2021 18:32

Triple jabbed here ;)

Just need to sort out ds2s who had covid 8 weeks ago so needs to wait for his jab

Derail from Covid rules and Christmas parties but I am shocked that our new student exchange programme pathetic as it is has been handed over to Capita?! God.

Peregrina · 08/12/2021 19:03

I was shocked about the Turing programme being handed over to Capita to DrBlackbird. I consoled myself that this means it's guaranteed to fail - whereas the Erasmus scheme was a success. This can't be taken away from it - so it may be useful ammunition in future.

But we have to get this wretched Government out first.

AuldAlliance · 08/12/2021 19:05

DrBlackbird
I was shocked by that. For half a minute. Then it just made me even sadder.

I went on trip to Scottish universities recently, to see what we can salvage in the way of mobility between them and my French university. From conversations there, I gathered that Turing funding is guaranteed only for a set period (3 or 4 years), beyond which its survival is uncertain.
Capita will probably kill it off.
