#secondratefrog# most of the people I'm thinking about weren't volunteering or studying. They were on employment contracts in highly skilled engineering or IT roles and that is the sort of thing we will lose out massively on. The experiences those people bring back with them help improve our productivity and drive our economy forward. But I get your point shout it being too depressing to dwell on.

SecondRateFrog · 21/10/2021 17:07

I agree with you, country. I was really responding to all the posts about very young EU citizens having a ball in the EU at university or on gap years.
I suppose we have to hope that the current lot are voted out and that a more conciliatory approach is taken, which leads to some loosening of restrictions on both sides.

www.cityam.com/temporary-brexit-half-of-young-british-business-owners-expect-uk-will-apply-to-rejoin-eu/

A third of SME business owners are convinced that the UK will apply to rejoin the EU in the future, according to new research shared exclusively with City A.M. this afternoon.

(contd)

Not until the current Tory Government is given the boot. A more pragmatic Tory Government which supports businesses could well do this.

julieca · 21/10/2021 17:37

In the future could be 30 years from now.

TheHateIsNotGood · 21/10/2021 19:04

Reads last few pages, realizes best thing to do is just close door and leave quietly, but I'm a bit clumsy, so you heard me come in. And the door closed quietly behind me, it didn't slam on anything.

As you were.

Lonelycrab · 21/10/2021 19:16

Off you go then.

I’m sure your unicorn is wanting to gallop you forth into the magical uplandsSmile

wewereliars · 21/10/2021 19:24

The Unicorns get upset by all the facts strewn along the path

Is Rees-Mogg a total idiot?

Which of us have not caught a cold after another family member gets one? Or a class of schoolchildren were germs spread like wildfire - and are a group of people much more likely to be in close contact for longer during the day than MPs are.

Jason118 · 21/10/2021 22:27

Please Miss, I know I know I know. Yes, he's an idiot.

What a strange question.

Those pictures are very telling, aren’t they?

I don’t think JRM is an idiot, just an evil human being. Possibly a descendant of the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

But Jacob is famous for his commonsense.
He is even wise on what to do if you ever find yourself in a burning tower block with no means of escape.

DrBlackbird · 22/10/2021 07:48

I think we all know that JRM is telling us, in his own typically polite and entitled manner, that nobility don’t become ill. It’s only the unwashed serf class rolling about the muck that get ill. Which is why he’d be happy to see the back of the NHS.

DrBlackbird · 22/10/2021 08:18

Okay this is truly depressing news and I now feel that we’ve hit the bottom of the Brexit barrel.

Laura Kuenssberg is in talks to step down as BBC political editor after six years and become a presenter on the Today programme

Best way to stay close to Boris, I guess.
prettybird · 22/10/2021 09:55

After Nick Robinson told BJ to shut up when he was waffling as usual during his first interview on the Today programme in 2 years maybe the producers feel the need to change the presenter or they'll never get BJ on again. Hmm

I'm sure LK wouldn't dream of stopping his havering Angry

DuncinToffee · 22/10/2021 09:58

The Today programme probably got too balanced.

Maybe BJ and LK come as a matched set ?

I suppose that this could be presented as "saving the planet" as it will reduce the amount of meat available to buy Hmm

How can the government have lost its way?
It never had a way, it has been permanently hiding in a fridge.

DGRossetti · 22/10/2021 17:04

Quite interesting seeing a creeping number of threads on MN that lead back to the B word. The latest being the lady whose HGV driving DH was shat on by his employers.

Let's see how happy people are after being cold, hungry and frightened for a winter when they are being told how happy they should be the UK has "regained" it's sovereignty.

Lonelycrab · 22/10/2021 21:08

This tweet sums up the futility of thinking there’ll be some brave new world out there. It’s a meaningless trade deal and will probably hurt our economy more than it helps.

Incidentally I was talking to a respected pro audio supplier, he’s lost half of his business due to red tape to the EU. This is the actual reality: people go out of business.
