Brexit Megathread - Part 1 because it's not over by a long shot

Started a new thread for all things Brexity as the last generic dumping ground reached its 1000 post limit. As this developing shitshow unfolds it's going to be important to share and unload. Clav of course will punt a contrarian view along with unrepentant 'taking back control' so-called Brexiteers. I look forward to seeing the benefits.

'You didn't make a plan did you?'

waffle waffle broken model, waffle waffle hardworking people, waffle waffle chronic low productivity blah blah blah.

What a charlatan. If you voted for Brexit, and you're happy with this shit, either you hate Britain or you need help.

Absolutely gorgeous Envy not envy!

HappyWinter · 05/10/2021 20:39

NY Times article "Mr. Johnson is unlikely to bear the consequences of his actions. His government, resting on a large majority, remains secure. And for him, crises are always opportunities. A master shape-shifter, unburdened by any sense of accountability or honesty, he thrives in conditions of adversity. The rest of the country won’t be so lucky"

vera99 · 05/10/2021 21:37

I'm a sort of ex fan of Billy Bragg loved him when I was young and impressionable and his voice could grate. But this song from a couple of years ago epitomises why so many working classes voted for Brexit and something working-class communities have lost and into that despair, a cabal of rich disaster capitalists have made hay as the barn burns and sold them the Greatest Lie.

Just popping up as I know you all understand to say that Johnson has been an utter disgrace today in every single media interview, even worse than usual. We are so fucked while he is in charge.

prettybird · 05/10/2021 22:26

This seems an appropriate time to (re)post this Grin

It's age restricted - but it describes perfectly the current situation even though it is over 5 years old (it gets taken down periodically). "Boris Johnson is a c*!t and everyone knows it"

You'll not thank me for the ear worm. Wink

Even more infuriating that EU imported pork is being sold to plug the gap left by this situation which was created by the Conservative government Angry

Oops - posted wrong link

prettybird · 05/10/2021 22:29

YouTube is not playing ball with the "copy link". I'm going to have to search a bit more to get the correct link.

vera99 · 05/10/2021 22:54

It’s being reported on French TV news today that the EU are considering offering 3rd country HGV drivers (ie UK) 5 year visas to come and work there.

A 5 year visa will lead to permanent residency.

I kid you not...

It's a different one to the one I wanted Confused, which was the one to the tune of "supercalifragilisticexpialidotious" - so the "any dream will do" one is similar Grin

Best I could find is this link to the lyrics

https://lyricstranslate.com/en/unknown-artist-english-boris-johnson-cunt-lyrics.html

....or search in YouTube for "Boris Johnson is a c*!t and everybody know it" and you'll see the correct version Grin

Right, I'm learning how to drive an HGV. Sounds like a ticket out of here.

They're trolling the UK and what's more they're doing it deliberately WinkShock

....Reminds me of when George Foulkes, sorry Baron Foulkes of Cumnock, Labour grandee, complained about the SNP trying to make services manifestly better north of the border than they were south of the border, because they were doing it deliberately Confused

Pretty certain I suggested that last week - you can imagine the wails from the Express.
Peregrina · 06/10/2021 09:14

The Express and the Mail are already whipping up hatred of anything French.

wewereliars · 06/10/2021 09:25

We have sunk so so low, I could weep.

Lonelycrab · 06/10/2021 09:37

Well at least the mail seem to be turning on Johnson, the main story online is about everyone getting hammered by inflation, not some brave new high wage utopia. Top comments are very negative towards the govt. probably doesn’t mean a lot in itself, but interesting to see.

Peregrina · 06/10/2021 10:46

I see absolutely no problem trying to aim for a high wage economy - but how exactly do the Tories plan to bring this about? I haven't seen any realistic commitment to education and training from them with which to provide part of the foundation for this. As for the quality of UK management - it often leaves a lot to be desired.

vera99 · 06/10/2021 10:55

Give yourself 3 minutes to watch this, I 100% promise you won’t regret it. James O'Brien I take my hat off to you. Blatant open lying on an industrial scale.
