Brexit Megathread - Part 1 because it's not over by a long shot

Started a new thread for all things Brexity as the last generic dumping ground reached its 1000 post limit. As this developing shitshow unfolds it's going to be important to share and unload. Clav of course will punt a contrarian view along with unrepentant 'taking back control' so-called Brexiteers. I look forward to seeing the benefits.

not sure I can watch all this without being both physically sick and simultaneously furiously angry.

Thanks for the James O'Brian clip. He's right, the current issues were dismissed as Project Fear. It's going to be a hard winter for those closest to the edge.

vera99 · 06/10/2021 11:46

Doesn't matter what Johnson lies artfully in his conference speech we all know it will be empty promises and more of the same healthy pigs are being destroyed for nothing as he speaks. Words, words words the same lies he has made to every partner every boss and now every person in this country.

On rape there was a tory mp accused by a younger female member of staff recently that managed to vote by proxy whilst the DPP determined there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. Maybe have a look at that again Johnson?

No apologies for more Farming Today which is keeping food production, processing and distribution under close scrutiny.
Today: Meat processors disagree with George Eustice over imported meat (and explicitly state that Government’s policies will result in British produce becoming a niche item only affordable by the wealthy).

45 mins and he's off - verbiage, jokes, skills, immigrants build back better - thumbs up and back to writing his 3 part exit autobiography.
TWAT.

A message to Conservative Party members from Tomasz, an HGV driver. (Location: Manchester city centre)

DuncinToffee · 06/10/2021 12:57

I am following it via Lewis Goodall twitter, better for my blood pressure Grin
Keir Starmer featured a lot it seems

vera99 · 06/10/2021 12:57

Hats off to Tomasz - a sufficient swathe of Brits said fuck off out and enough did. Come on Brexiters own your shit show some personal culpability. If you are very honest admit you are happy with the shortages and problems as long as it keeps more immigrants out. You have taken back control and it's all part of the cunning plan.

Another one from Led by Donkeys

Boris Johnson's power is driven by lies. (Location: Oldham Rd, Manchester)

I have noticed a few pro Johnson threads popping up, guess the signal has been sent.

vera99 · 06/10/2021 13:27

Clav's probably given up on this 'echo chamber' and has "lines to take" orders in the heart of Mumsnet Central. Can't be arsed to take the battle there tbh.

Catching a little bit of Today, it seems we may be at the mercy of big business ... they are really pissed off. TL;DR is that it seems the Tories have twigged they can pretty much treat big business like it treats the electorate (i.e. shit) with that wonderful mild threat ... Well you can always have a Labour government

wewereliars · 06/10/2021 13:39

This echo chamber and swathes of twitter are all that are keeping me sane at the moment TBH, I feel that the country has been taken over by those parasitic wasps. Which is bad enough, but it's the fact that crowds aren't on the street screaming blue murder that defeats me.

Anybody not yet seen this, look out for Byline times. A welcome dose of truth and sanity.

At the rate things are going, that might not be a threat any more...
vera99 · 06/10/2021 14:00

Yes Byline Times is great - I'm even chucking a few quid now and then into Stop Brexit man Steve Bray's pot who likes to annoy Brexit Mp's at Westminster and beyond and of course, being part of the twitter army !

@vera99 Grin I’m now following Steve.

@wewereliars I have had some really down days since the food and petrol shortages started. I can’t believe there is anyone around still supporting Boris, but many still love him! I feel like I’m watching the country fall to bits and no one else is noticing.

Peregrina · 06/10/2021 14:20

I do feel people are noticing, but like the Tory party, they are desperately trying to convince themselves that it's not because of the Brexit that they so noisily supported.

borntobequiet · 06/10/2021 14:22

You think I only get my news and current affairs from Farming Today, the Daily Mash and Mumsnet? You’d be right, more or less.

borntobequiet · 06/10/2021 14:25

People are kidding themselves that things are OK. I’m doing it myself this week. I got petrol! All is well! Asda had carrots again! Hooray! Amazon finally delivered my parcel - only a month late! Winner!

It’s easy to do and the powers that be are relying on it.

DGRossetti · 06/10/2021 14:25

I wonder how far you can shit on people as long as they feel their racism is being pandered too ?

No NHS ? Well at least those sponging furriners can't access it.

No benefits (see above)

We're already looking to prevent the freedom of movement of the innocent.

vera99 · 06/10/2021 14:31

Brexit was the ultimate snake oil panacea that could cure all ills in the abstract and the pandemic and extended transition masked it for most of the time. The emperor has less than no new clothes now.

There’s a lot of narrative coming from the Conservative Party conference about how ministers don’t feel they should take responsibility for problems in society.

So if you hold power but you don’t want to use it to help people, what purpose are you directing your power towards? I think we know the answer to that.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 06/10/2021 14:32

furriners DGR - could you possibly be mocking the Working Class or Can't You Spell? Grin

HarrisonStickle · 06/10/2021 14:34

I live in a farming heavy part of England. Item on local BBC radio this morning about farmers and how angry and disappointed they are about what Johnson has said about the industry. Particularly the part about animals going to die anyway, so what was the problem.
