I'm getting seriously ticked off day by day by the UK government wanting X or Y or Z which were and are benefits of actually being part of the EU but not wanting to be part of the EU.

Today on BBC Breakfast in the news it's easier travel movement within the EU. Digital certificates to prove that you've been vaccinated has goes live today for all EU countries and lo and behold the UK wants it's piece of the pie and to be part of the easier travel movements.

Well....no. You left the EU. You're not part of it anymore. You don't get to enjoy the benefits of easier travel just because...you join the other countries that are not part of the EU and take your place in the queue.

Or

You rejoin the EU and play your part in these decisions and be a grown up.

It's just sooooo frustrating.

Prettybird Wales also voted to leave
True - I forgot that Blush. But iirc, later research showed that it was English incomers that tipped the narrow balance.

But I did check that people in Wales can't access the NHS England so-called "NHS App" for vaccine certification.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 01/07/2021 11:24

Ahh, whatever happens it's somehow the fault of the English!

Re the app. I had my jab in Powys earlier this week and the hospital did say to download the Wales app in a couple of weeks for updated status to be displayed on there. They did say it wasn't immediate. So there might be something in the offing - I wasn't really paying attention though because I want to avoid being pinged to self isolate

Everyone who tried to point out these entirely obvious and foreseeable problems was accused of fearmongering. Most people did not vote for this.

I will never not be angry with people who thought that taking away so many of our rights, based on empty promises, was a good idea.

That’s hilarious. Talking about being grown up given the way the EU behaved over vaccination roll out and threatening to close the Irish border. Not to mention the appalling hatchet job being done on the Astra Zeneca vaccine by making out it was so much more riskier than the other vaccines. Now that was truly appalling.

@LarryTheLurker

Five years on and still they whine. The benefit of Brexit was no longer having to be ruled from Brussels by unelected foreigners - please don't anybody mention the powerless, joke European 'Parliament', the Commission is in charge. The easier travel that was stopped was that of EU economic migrants coming here, which was what we wanted. It's a bit harder for Brits to travel to EU member states now? So what.

As for 'the 48+million who desperately didn't want this', you have got a nerve rolling up abstentions and children into the remain vote, but I suppose if it makes your loss easier to bear....

We're out, though with lots of loose ends still to be tied up and the consequences of the EU's pathetic vindictiveness - do I really need to remind you of the attempted blockade of Jersey, the threats to our electricity imports, the outrageous way the EU tried both to undermine our vaccine while trying to steal supplies it hadn't paid for, not to mention the threat to the GFA that is the weaponised NI Protocol? - needing to be dealt with.

There will be no going back, mostly because Brexit will be seen on balance to be a great success, but also because the corrupt, anti-democratic EU will not exist in ten years.

Well said. I voted to remain but having seen the appalling behaviour of the Eu over the vaccines and threatening to blockade Jersey I regret that. I also think it appalling, narrow minded and bigoted to accuse every person who voted to leave of being racist/ xenophobic. People have exercised their perfectly democratic right to vote yet apparently some remainders don’t agree with democracy. There were plenty of legitimate reasons to vote to leave and it’s about time some people took their own advice by growing up and accepting the vote didn’t go their way. I say this as someone who was initially devastated at the result.
Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 01/07/2021 12:33

Well Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are also included in this EU initiative so I dont think leaving the UK out is related to us not being in the EU. More likely because we are plague island with the delta variant running rampant.

Peregrina · 01/07/2021 19:27

I guess no one was expecting a pandemic following Brexit.

Not so, although the specific form of the pandemic could not be predicted. Singapore and Taiwan, both densely populated, have managed it better because they took note of the sort of plans that the UK used to have, but decided to scrap.

Peregrina · 01/07/2021 19:30

Also, why does no-one care about the tens of millions of people voting for far-right parties in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary ie, virtually every EU country.

France has just had regional elections and Marine Le Pen did not make the break through that she wanted. Maybe people do care, after all?

Shown to be because of the English retirees

Well yes its the fault of the English if thats what research shows or is it fake news because the brexity goodness cant be denied? Hmm

To the pp earlier who said something along the lines of that were still whining after 5 years, your lot were still whining after 30+ years, such precious gammony snowflakes

Peregrina · 01/07/2021 19:56

(FYI I voted remain but that hasn’t happened, that didn’t mean we never want to speak to any eu countries ever again)

Johnson, Frost and the ERG group generally have tried to pretend that the last 45 years of being in Europe, and helping to shape their laws, absolutely never happened. If they had been much less belligerent then maybe the other countries would be prepared to accommodate us more.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 01/07/2021 20:00

I guess that's freedom of movement for you though!

Does the research know how each person voted? Whether the majority of the English in Wales voted leave and the majority of the Welsh voted remain? Genuine question because I haven't read it.

MimiDaisy11 · 01/07/2021 20:05

What’s frustrating is the amount of people who seem to think the EU are excluding us out of spite or some other negative reason rather than these are benefits of the EU and no one outside gets it. I’ve had people bring up what Norway and other EEA countries get that we don’t and that’s apparently because the EU hates us. It’s frustrating that they just don’t understand the basics.

I thought the scapegoating would end when we left but it’s just changed character. It’s still the big bad EU stopping us from being great and having things.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 01/07/2021 20:08

Without their perpetual victimhood theyd have nothing else to call their own, harking back to some mythical sense of empire (conveniently rose tinted) and britishness, wont be long till were the argentina of europe

caringcarer · 01/07/2021 20:09

I voted to leave and actually could not see many benefits to being in EU. We in UK have certainly benefited from vaccines by being out of EU. We have high numbers of people vaccinated with 2 vaccines. If we were still in EU that would be lower and so deaths higher.

HidingFromTheChildren · 01/07/2021 20:13

We should be able to take ourselves off to the EU like the French do with us.

Oh wait they're not French & travelling here because France isn't deemed to be a safe country by Syrians & Iraqis.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 01/07/2021 20:14

Most of the leave voters quote the vaccines as a success yet there seems to be a high correlation between the vax and mask refusers and english flags, there also seemed to be a high correlation between brexit voters and english flags, wales would have voted to remain if it wasnt for the findings of the earlier research, scotland voted to remain, and NI voted to remain Hmm wonder who the problem is
HidingFromTheChildren · 01/07/2021 20:16

Anyone who is still pro EU after the EU threatened to hijack vaccine shipments on numerous occasions & which we purchased to protect ourselves during a global pandemic does not deserve an opinion about what to have for breakfast in the morning.

Peregrina · 01/07/2021 20:33

If we made such a wonderful job with our vaccines, then why is the Delta variant running wild in the UK?

It's a pity that the Leavers can only think of vaccines for their reason for leaving the EU.

UpSlyDown · 01/07/2021 20:37

I know what you mean but realistically there will be some equivalent so Brits can travel. Europe needs our business so something will be sorted!
